Heya peeps,

I'm a 19yr old without work who's really into skylines and imports in general. Of course, I'm no where near as encapsulated with them as much as I am with drifting. I really want to support my project out at Mallala and have wanted to drift there ever since I first got my license and drove there to watch the drift. Not that my interests and focuses should have much to do with me being a competant, dependable and overall worth-while worker, but I think by explaining my backround maybe someone will sympathise with my efforts and goals and possibly point me in the direction of some connections.

I have been looking for work for a while and cant seem to get any actual responses leaving me to think that maybe it's my resumae or just that I am a guy looking for work in a society dominated by managers who are only hiring females. Excuses and intimidation aside, here I am, open for whatever interview, whatever drug-tests and whatever it takes to be supporting myself and my goals.

Initially I was looking for something along the lines of a video store clerk. Actually something I've been wanting to do for some time now. Just to help me to collect my thoughts and pace myself while doing something I believe I'd really enjoy, but there just doesn't seem to be any call for me in that area of workforce it seems. Even though I've handed out so many resumaes.

I am good for labour and can move boxes and package shelves.

I am great with helping customers and nullifying conflicting situations quick-smart and safely.

I am mechanically experienced to an extent. Mainly that of dealing with suspension and steering components. I am not too familiar with engines although can identify and note typical problems.

I have worked on farms, and on the process line.

I am a friendly person who likes to help people out and makes sure his quota is thouroughly accomplished.

I am experienced with computers and can type relatively fast.

I am experienced at taking peoples calls.

I can even E-mail my proper formal resumae out to someone if they're interested enough.

For the record my project is an MR30 skyline with an RB20det engine (redtop NICS dillema) and is a budget project. I would rather complete my project and get some footage of myself drifting with it before I go looking for any sponsorship.

I just thought it was worthwhile enough for me to try my luck through these forums, even if someone can just tell me how to improve my approach then that would also be appreciated.

Thanks a bunch!

Rick.

if your 19 and keen to get that money for your "project" i suggest you look into hospitality including restaurant and bar/club work. Its an industry that is ALWAYS looking for more staff. Its up to you how commited you are and if you are wiling to sacrifice weekends day or night for your project....

Just a suggestion.

Try labour hire places in the short term until you secure work, occasionally you can secure full time work through them should an employer like you.

Also looks better on your resume as it shows you are currently in some form of work.

Or a tafe corse at least, a lot of employers will look to tafe for suitable candidates before advertising, and get yourself out there, drop around to the places you want to work, introduce yourself (get on the net and figure out who to talk to first) leave a grat resume. Good luck!

Edit - Use the job agencies like steps for resume stuff, they have a lot of good ideas but I have never found them helpful for finding an actual job tho (mabey thats just me, I dunno)

Most video stores (ie my own) dont make a huge amount of money and every slack arse out there wants to work in one because they think they can stand at the counter and work out wot they would really like to do. Plus i am the only person over a certian age which works here because most casual work is done on weekends by youngsters. Plus with more and more people downloading it aint making the video industry any easier.

Your chances are going to be very slim and even if you did get a job kiss friday, sat, sun night goodbye

good luck

Thanks for all the responses people.

Yo Skippy.

I realise that I would be giving up basically all of my weekends (i.e. partys, events sacfraficing that sort of thing) and on my coverletters I've also offered to work for free for a couple days (that goes for weekends) just to show what kind of worker I am. The ONLY consolation I would have with that in the longterm is with a drift night.

I am no slacker, come on and try me out! I'll work for free for an entire weekend (3days - Friday, Saturday and Sunday -8hours for each day) and you can dismiss me at the end of it for good, even if you don't think I'm a slacker. So long as you let me use you as a reference and allow me some experience seeing as I've never done this work before and am really keen to.

I have applied for one of the positions Howie posted about. Thanks you guys!

I've been running around handing out resumaes and collecting job applications. Unfortunately most places have already done their hiring for these christmas holidays but I think I have a chance of getting some work, at least in town. I'm going back to town to hand out some more resumaes tommorrow.

Cheers for the responses people!

Rick.

did u look into IPA Rick or you were trying to get a job without an agency

I've signed up to that too, I'm a little weary of how the website works but I think I'm getting the hang of it now. Thanks for that link dude. I'm just about going mad I need work that badly. Also, the thought of actually getting a salary is really enthralling.

    • I mean, I got two VASS engineers to refuse to cert my own coilovers stating those very laws. Appendix B makes it pretty clear what it considers 'Variable Suspension' to be. In my lived experience they can't certify something that isn't actually in the list as something that requires certification. In the VASS engineering checklist they have to complete (LS3/NCOP11) and sign on there is nothing there. All the references inside NCOP11 state that if it's variable by the driver that height needs to maintain 100mm while the car is in motion. It states the car is lowered lowering blocks and other types of things are acceptable. Dialling out a shock is about as 'user adjustable' as changing any other suspension component lol. I wanted to have it signed off to dissuade HWP and RWC testers to state the suspension is legal to avoid having this discussion with them. The real problem is that Police and RWC/Pink/Blue slip people will say it needs engineering, and the engineers will state it doesn't need engineering. It is hugely irritating when aforementioned people get all "i know the rules mate feck off" when they don't, and the actual engineers are pleasant as all hell and do know the rules. Cars failing RWC for things that aren't listed in the RWC requirements is another thing here entirely!
    • I don't. I mean, mine's not a GTR, but it is a 32 with a lot of GTR stuff on it. But regardless, I typically buy from local suppliers. Getting stuff from Japan is seldom worth the pain. Buying from RHDJapan usually ends up in the final total of your basket being about double what you thought it would be, after all the bullshit fees and such are added on.
    • The hydrocarbon component of E10 can be shittier, and is in fact, shittier, than that used in normal 91RON fuel. That's because the octane boost provided by the ethanol allows them to use stuff that doesn't make the grade without the help. The 1c/L saving typically available on E10 is going to be massively overridden by the increased consumption caused by the ethanol and the crappier HC (ie the HCs will be less dense, meaning that there will definitely be less energy per unit volume than for more dense HCs). That is one of the reasons why P98 will return better fuel consumption than 91 does, even with the ignition timing completely fixed. There is more energy per unit volume because the HCs used in 98 are higher density than in the lawnmower fuel.
    • No, I'd suggest that that is the checklist for pneumatic/hydraulic adjustable systems. I would say, based on my years of reading and complying with Australian Standards and similar regulations, that the narrow interpretation of Clause 3.2 b would be the preferred/expected/intended one, by the author, and those using the standard. Wishful thinking need not apply.
    • Yes they do. For some maybe. But for those used the most by abusers, ie Skylines, the numbers are known. The stock eyebrow height for R32/3 Skylines is about 365/375mm or thereabouts. The minimum such heights are recorded in adjacent columns in the database.
