rev210
change your gearbox oil frequently and you will never have the problem. BTW the redline stuff should be changed just as regularly, so unless your made of money I'd get a couple of different grades of cheap stuff and see what works. strich9ine, your not supposed to flat change into 5th its only a 'little gear' Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/14400-klunkety-klunk/#findComment-291104 Share on other sites

R31 Chick
My only troublesome gear in both R31's (aussie model and GTS-X) was shifting it into reverse sometimes. PACEY
does anybody elses gear box make that churning noise when its cold and out of gear? Im paranoid about this car because my last (fast) car was a commondore and it was always f%#@in' up, every week. R31 Chick
Pacey, Your bearings need replacing. That is the first signs we got when both the R31 and a VL 3ltr boxes were on there way out. Both just needed the bearings replaced. Both were manuals too. Eventually it will become louder. Cake
yeah mine does it too, so did my old r33, i heard its not worth bothering about is, cost too much $ in labour, just replace the bearings same time as new clutch. rev210
the noise is most often caused by the the clutch thrust bearing. If the noise goes away or changes when you put the clutch in then thats it. Don't worry too much about it. Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/14400-klunkety-klunk/#findComment-295512 Share on other sites

Jengi
Yup, my bearings are gone too, not too loud atm, but it'll get worse I'm sure..I will be replacing them when I get my new clutch. Oh yeah Strich9ine, you will need approx 2 litres of oil for that box..I will be doing mine soon too, I bet it's on the original oil..
