Leon,

The idea is you're not suppose to run your car's engine while unattended, also engine must turn off when you remove the key from the ignition. even tho u can argue you'll be watchin ur car close by while on turbo timer countdown, the turbo timer installation by itself allows the engine run while you are away from your car.

I guess that will prevent events of unexpected fire where you won't be there, or a car suddenly shifted into gear for some bizarre reasons, or forgot to leave the car in "D" in autos and turbo timer running then suddenly car slides forward when the handbrake loose grips, or any other reasons.

And those who have remote engine starter in their alarm, they're not legal. I have one, and was told it's not legal. Also remote power windows up/down as one of the roadworthy requirement is that electric windows must not be operating when key is off the ignition. There's so many little rules and grey areas when it comes to legality such as this.

Forgot to leave the car in 'D'?

I assume you mean 'P'... :):)

no skyline chick, I get what you mean but I am thinking the way around.

you forgot, the car is still in 'D' and you pull up handbrake and get out and leave.... that's what I mean... it's not easy being a non-native english speaker.

handbrake may not hold that long enough.....

believe it or not some does....

even did stupid thing....... this happen to my friend & my neighbour (I hope she doesn't read this forum..)

see, she went to the shops with her mum. then when she returned to the car, the car won't start at all, she tried many times, becomes desperate, and decided to call RACV guy.

RACV guy comes up 15 mins later, sits in the car and start the car in less than 30 seconds.

Solution?? Move the shift from D to park, start engine. Problem solved.

Turned out she left the car in D, turned the engine off and went shopping. She was pretty much embarrased that day I tell ya :-) I can't help but ROFL when she told me that hehehe...

It is illegal to run your car while not in it.. but by themselves turbo timers are not illegal.

Wheels cannot be more than 1.5cm rolling diameter greater than the largest specified by the manufacturer,... and 2.5cm (1") wider than the largest specified wheels for that model.

Most coloured lighting on the outside of your car is illegal.. Indicators need to flash yellow..

the list goes on, you start to pick a few up over time :)

The Road Safety (Vehicles)(Vehicle Standards) Regulations 1999 S.R. No 54/99 Division 19 Section 118(2) states;

A vehicle may be fitted with any other light or reflector, except (unless sub-clause (3) applies) -

(a) a light that flashes; or

(B) a light or reflector that -

(i)shows a red light to the front; or

(ii)shows a white light to the rear; or

(iii)is shaped or located in a way that reduces the effectiveness of a light or reflector that is required to be fitted to the vehicle under the Vehicle Standards.

Although that says other lights can be fitted provided the above conditions are met the Vic Roads Technical Guide for Vehicles states;

Vehicle Standards Information 10: Installation of lights on Road Vehicles

Motor vehicles and trailers intended for use on the road must be fitted with lamps that comply with the Standards for Registration which for vehicles built on or after 1 October 1991 are the ADRs. The standards also prohibit a vehicle from being fitted with a lamp or reflector that is not required or permitted by the standards.

Road Rules - Victoria state

Rule 219

A driver must not use, or allow to be used, any light fitted to or in the driver's vehicle to dazzle, or in in a way that is likely to dazzle, another road user.

Definition of dazzle

1.v.t. confuse sight by excess of sight , intricate motion, etc, confound or surprise by brilliant display or prospect.

2.n. bright confusing light

erm it isnt illegal to have a timer in ur car... its illegal to have it hooked up and turned on... its like the stupid rule that its not illegal to sell bongs yet its illegal to smoke dope... its ****ing stupid.

as for the FMIC and filter..... u can always use one of the hifloew panel filters which do a great job anyway along with an FMIC.... then just hiflow ur own turbs and they wont have a clue.

    • Will have a look at that. I cant see any leaks
    • Put another overflow bottle (ie, a 1.25 coke bottle or similar) under the overflow hose and see if it is being pushed out there or if it is disappearing into the engine.
    • Staring on a stand is no issue. You just have to wire everything up, give it fuel and cross your fingers that the stand is robust enough. Arranging the inlet plumbing is often the hardest part, without any surrounding structure to hand some of it from. No need for coolant if you only want to run it for <1 minute. As to the gearbox - I think the little Aisin box is a bit stronger than the other small Nissan boxes that went behind SRs, but I wouldn't be too keen to test its limits with the torque of a boosted 25. I don't know if you can retain the box and the tailshaft. The box won't connect to the RB without an adapter of some sort, which is either a plate that will push the engine forward (which is not good for fitting it into the bay's available space) or push the box back, which messes with the box position and tailshaft length - OR - cut and shut work on the bellhousing, which is a long way from "least modification". I'd be buying a new 370Z 6 speed or similar, doing what has to be done to that to make it fit RB (ie, cut and shut bellhousing) and the requisite tailshaft custom/mods.
    • Hi Everyone I am from West Pennant Hills in NSW. Been too busy until recently to attend to my RB25DET Series 2 engine until recently. I am planning to stick it into the S15 shell at this stage, unless a nice SR20DET turns up... For now, i am going to try and get the RB25 running and working well then decide what gearbox to use. My preference is to retain the SR20DET  6 speed gearbox and tail shaft to retain as much and least modifications as i can avoid. I am an old guy and won't be doing any heavy drifting so i don't need a bullet proof gearbox Does anyone have experience with starting the RB on a stand? I got everything setup as much as I can with the info i can find... endless searching and videos on Youtube I would be great to get some pointers Cheers Songo
    • Hey all, Recently have had my s1 r33 gtr serviced and noticed my coolant reservoir was topped up to the max line. Took the car out for 1 yesterday and noticed today the reservoir is completely empty.  Any ideas? Radiator is full
