We will be under the microscope in Targa, so it will be interesting. It will be hard to police without bollards, how do they know you cut the corner or were just out of control.

My thoughts exactly Targa Tom! As first-timers I'm sure there could be occasions where we just plain get it wrong and 'cut' with absolutely no intention at all (and no benefit!).

Personally I think a penalty on 'first offence' is harsh. A warning and then penalty for the next observed offence would be much fairer?

Well yeah, hopefully they would.

I can see it becoming a real problem down the track. In Targa'06, and to a lesser extent Rally Burnie '06, it was becoming a real concern, particularly when you're running nearer the back of the field.

I've seen pictures of some vehicles in these events, with not two, but FOUR wheels all the way off the black stuff! Obviously, dirt rally guys and the "factory backed" Suby and Mitsi teams are the main culprits......

Many of you will know for instance that substantial time could be taken off by going "off-road" on The Sideling for example.

How about this (for w*nk value!), utilise the in-car transponders in each vehicle to record when a vehicle touches "pressure plates" inserted under the dirt the area where a "corner cutter" would run across on those corners prone to cutting?

lol even better dig a pit road runner style and let the whole car fall in :P No appeal or ruling required

I assume all Targa runners saw this?

And by the way, anyone planning on doing the inaugural Suncoast Rally? The new tarmac one up Noosa (Qld) way?

Yeh the guy I did Rally Tas with is keen to do it if we get some sponsors!

Our new engine is being built as we speak for Targa (long story)

It is expensive, not particularly good value for money on a dollar per competetive klm basis. :ninja: But on an upside, it should be quite professionaly run and the roads are good good good.

I've turned into a navigating whore and am entered with Richard Gally in a series 3 RX7! HAha... should be a bit different, and LOUD! lol

How expensive are we talking?

Dad and I are gunna do some recce on the weekend. We've never made notes before, and I was wondering how everyone else writes the notes down? We've got a fair idea on the info we want to put down (distance, direction, secerity (1-10), and and causions (crests and what not). But we just want an idea of how to get it all down so it's easy to read back when it matters.

Duck over to my downloads page Click Here and download the Devonport to longford file....

It has a bit of road book and our notes from a couple of years ago. We have evolved since then, but will give you an idea.

There might be some other stuff there that interests you too.

Don't forget to remind Brendan he has to pass on the right in Targa - LOL

They are trying to make it for the teams an coffee set I reckon... I have been looking at it and if we have a good run in Targa would consider it. But 7k, bl00dy expensive eh Ben.

I mean and if they are basing it in Noosa accom will be expensive too. I will have to stay in Roma or injune which will mean a lot of travel... LOL

TT

Well I know of a good caravan park down in the mangroves that we could probably all afford.... maybe we could even get a discount for 3 or more vans? :)

Realistically, I think there's a fait bit of reasonably priced accomodation around the area in Noosaville/Tewantin and surrounds. It's not all squillionairs and silicone up there.

I'm not sure about the tea and scone comment, I know of a few serious teams going, both in modern and classic categories. There'll be plenty of competition to be had I reckon. I spoke with Jason White yesterday, they're confirmed for entry in the Lambo. But I DO know they want to limit the entry of Evo/STi's to keep a good mix of vehicles. I suggest it'll be a case of first in best dressed? Whether that's a good or bad thing I won't comment. :D

Once the coarse is released we'll start doing some recce/pace notes on weekends, so TT, if you decide you're going to come up I'll pass some notes on to give you a head start if you like mate? We use 1-6 if that suits you?

Cheers lads.

Time management mate, tiiiime management :D lol....

I know your feeling though, last year we finished the GTR, oh, at least an hour before it went on the truck.

This year it's a little different, I'm a true "rock star", lol, just turn up and get in. The guys are even calling me asking where I like things mounted! hahahaha

You are setting yourelf up for a huge p155 take Ben. And yes thanks, we do use the 1 - 6. (An Irish guy wanted to come over and navigate for me. He said they use 6-1 and It wouldn't take me long to get used to it. FOrget his name, w@nker...)

Well Duncan don't panic... We(I, cos I do all the 'ken work) have just put a "Targa"exhaust on - Now you can buy 'em for 1200, but I made ours. Three Beers. Then hooked in WBO2 anyliser and callibrate. Three beers. Fit new tow hook on the front cos now they dont like webbing under the lip. (four mor beers). Now have to wire WBO2 to logger.... geez I'm thirsty.

Have to Service SHox, fit earthing kit, fit ECU, Symmons for installation test. Dyno for highload tune, Baskey for shakedown.

Sound familliar Duncan.

eeeek! sounds v like our Targa budget :)

BIG PS: Thanks Targa Tom for the download- much appreciated, especially for us first timers

bloody hell...how do you all have time to talk on the interweb....I am flat out trying to get this bloody car together, and I'm sick of working on the thing atm :ninja:

Less talk on teh interweb D, more action please........

Oh don't I know it TT, but isn't that all part of the fun? lol

I'm actually kinda uncomfortable not being involved with the prep of the car..... just making light of it. :ninja:

Gotta look after 832... got three sets of plates in my office. If I can manage 3 with 984 will be happy.

    • Back again. I returned to Japan in Jul/Aug to spend time with the car on my birthday and remind myself what all the sacrifice and compromise is for. It happened to line up with the monthly morning meet in Okutama, which I have been wanting to go to for a long time. It's a unique event at a unique spot with really rare, interesting, and quirky cars. It's where all the oldheads and OGs gather. The nighttime scene at DKF certainly has its place and should be experienced if you're into cars, but there's too much bad attention and negativity around it now. IMO the better time is Sunday morning at DKF or Okutama; it's more chill and relaxed. I'm glad I was finally able to go, but not sure it's worth the drive from all the way from Nagoya immediately the day before, unless I was already staying in Tokyo for the days right before the meet, because you have to wake up quite early to make it in time. Funnily enough though I didn't drive the car all that much this trip because it was just too damn hot. While there were zero issues and running temps were nominal and the A/C was strong, RBs already run crazy hot as it is. Sure, it took it all like a champ but something about driving these cars in the ridiculous heat/humidity bothers me and makes me feel like I'm asking too much of it. I'm just me being weird and treating the car like a living thing with feelings; I'm mechanically sympathetic to a fault. Instead I was mainly driving something else around - a KX4(silver) 2001 X-Trail GT, that I acquired in May. There's a few different flavors to choose from with Xs, but visually it's the Nissan version of the Honda CR-V. Mechanically it's a whole different story as this, being the top-trim GT, has an SR20VET mated to a four-speed auto and full-time AWD! It was a very affordable buy in exceptional condition inside and out, with very low mileage...only 48k kms. Most likely it was owned by an older person who kept it garaged and well-maintained, so I'm really happy with how it all worked out. It literally needs zero attention at the moment, albeit except for some minor visual touch-ups. I wanted something quirky, interesting, and practical and for sure it handily delivers on all three of those aspects. I was immediately able to utilize the cargo and passenger capacity to its full extent. It's a lot of fun to drive and is quite punchy through 1st and 2nd. It's very unassuming -in the twisty bits it's a lot more composed than one would think at a glance- and it'll be even better once I get better tires on it(yes, it's an SUV but still a little boat-y for my liking). So...now I have two golden-era Nissans in silver. One sports car and one that does everything else; the perfect two-car solution I think👍 The rest of the trip...I was able to turn my stressed brain off and enjoy it, although I didn't quite get to do as much as I thought. I did some interesting things, met some interesting people, and happened into some interesting situations however, that's all for another post though only if people really want to know. Project-wise, I went back to Mine's again to discuss more plans and am hoping to wrap that up real soon; keep watching this space if that interests you. Additionally, while working in the tormenting sweatbox that is the warehouse, I was able to organize most of the myriad of parts that my friend is storing for me along with the cars, and the 34 has a nice little spot carved out for it: And since it can get so stupid hot in there, that made it all the more easy -after I was standing there looking at the car and said 'f**k it'- to finally remove all the damn gauges that have mostly been an eyesore all this time. Huzzah. The heat basically makes the adhesive backing on the gauge mounts more pliable to work with, so it was far less stressful getting this done. I didn't fully clean it up or chase the wiring though; that will happen once I have the car in closer possession. Another major reason to remove all that stuff is to give people less reasons to get in my car and steal s**t while it's being exported/imported when/if the time comes, which leads us to my next point... ...and that is even though it's time in Japan is technically almost up since it's a November car and the X would be coming in March, I'm still not entirely sure where my life and career is headed; I don't really know what the future looks like and where I'm going to end up. I feel there's a great deal of uncertainty with me and as a result of that, it feels like I'm at a crossroads moreso now than any point in my life thus far and there are some choices I need to make. Yes, I've had some years to consider things and prepare myself, however too much has happened in that time to maintain confidence and everything feels so up in the air; tenuous one might say. Simply put, there's just too much nonsense going on right now from multiple vectors. Admittedly, I'm struggling to stay in the game and keep my eyes on the prize. So much so in fact, that very recently I came the closest I ever have before to calling it quits outright; selling everything and moving on and not looking back. The astute among you will pick up on key subtext within this paragraph. In the meantime I've still managed to slowly acquire some final bits for the car, but it feels nice knowing there's not much left to get and I'm almost across that finish line; I have almost everything I'll ever want for my interpretation and expression on what it is I think an R34 should be. 'til later.
    • Thanks for that, hadn’t used my brain enough to think about that.
    • Also playing with fire if they start to flow more air down low than what the stock twins can. It's not even up top you need to worry, it can be at 3000rpm and part throttle and it's getting way more flow than it should.
    • Any G40/1000 or G40/1250 results out there?
    • You still want a proper tune on the stock ECU though. Stock tune + stock ECU with GT-SS/-9s is probably playing with fire if you're running more than stock airflow/power.
