just wondering if these play burnt cds and if they are compatible with most head units

only way is to try. I would say not if its the early version.

My old SONY 10 Stack (about 6years old now) played burnt cd's although it took me a little while to find which brand and burn speed it liked the best.

For mine i found that Verbatim seemed to work the best and i had to burn my music to them at relativily slow speeds so it wouldn't skip/not read it.

Most of the new ones now all play Mp3/WMA burnt cd's so you shouldn't have a problem at all but like Chris said there is only one real way to find out and thats try it :P
