Hi folks,

For the past 7 months Ive been fixing my car (New head gasket and such) and Ive only just got her running a few weeks ago. Now the problem I'm having;

Ive got new plugs in her, and a new Fuel filter. Its getting to operating temp like really fast, and when it does it starts to miss and knock. it also wont rev past 4 grand (not underload) I dont know whats wrong. On the way bringing it home (I live in stanthorpe, the car was in Loganlea) the exhaust got so hot it melted my brand spanking new cat  Its like its either too retarded to rev properly, or too advanced and starts to knock. No matter where the CAS is (It linned up to the marks I put before I took it off)

I dont know what to think about it, weather its the CAS, injectors, O2 sensor or what. Anyone else ever had this problem? If its running lean (and I think it is) how do you enrich it?

Please help me, I need it running before I get my licence back in 3 weeks

Hmm bit of an unusual problem, so I'll ask a heap of questions to try and get a few more clues on where to start looking.

Is it possible that the cam belt could have jumped a tooth?.

Has the fuel pressure regulator been checked?

When were the injectors last cleaned?

Have you checked the timing (standard is 15 degrees)

What fuel are you using?

if its running really hot that means its running really lean?

run some fuel system cleaner through it as you may have a block in your pipe or somthing?. but have you got your fuel hoses round the right way?

that rev limit sounds like a limp mode. check your ecu for fault codes

No, Ive pulled off the timing and checked twice. its still perfect. It was running fine untill I started getting low on fuel afer the rebuild then everything went to shit.

The fuel pressure regulator is fine, though I dont notice a difference when I unplug the hose.

I dont know when they were lol. Im going to do that soon.

This is what struck a nerve... 15 degrees before or after TDC? I actually didnt know this. There are three marks (On both Exh and Int cams and on the crank pully) and all three marks on the belt line up with those. But after the rebuild it was revving up to 6G easy without a problem. It seemed when I got low on fuel (maybe shit in the tank?) that all hell broke lose.

I think my fuel pump has sucked up some shit (There is a little hole in my in-tank filter) that maybe it leaned out? it idles fine but as soon as I touch the throttle it misses really bad. The longer it sits, the more cylinders that miss. I think I just answered my own question... lol.

By what you have said it doesn't sound like a timing problem if you have checked everything and it's still lining up, I'm sorry I can't really help too much in the timing department as I haven't really had too much experience with it. I have an engine manual if you would like a copy of the timing info I could email you the pages if it's any help.

Jusyt another though have you run a diagnostics check on the ecu and seen if there is any errors showing up?

But as you have already said it sound more likely to be a fuel problem, probably a blocked in tank filter or even a dying fuel pump.

    • Am I correct in assuming that the R35's are getting the classic skyline haircut off the odometer?  Quick search on carsales, there are 33 08 and 09 GTR's for sale, only 2 of them have more then 100,000km's on them (116,075 and 110,000 respectively).  And somehow there are about 25 for sale with around 60,000kms? Looks like the classic skyline haircut to me =/
    • @Stringycheese  Have you only gone to the one blue slip workshop?  There will be a heap of them where ever you live, good odds that the next place you go to will pass the car.  Unfortunately (or fortunately?) every blue slip / engineering workshop will be different and will be happy passing or failing different things - despite working from the same set of rules. It's kinda like 2 lawyers arguing over a piece of legislation, each saying their interpretation is correct. Might seem strange that this happens when it comes to getting a modified car passed, but this is very much a thing. A big part of the game is finding an engineer / workshop that is on the same page as you.
    • Bah. I daily mine. ~60km per work day, 10-12 thousand km per year. What's the point of having a dirty old Datto and leaving it in the shed. It needs to be driven and enjoyed while the govco allows us to do so. It will only be a few years before we're forbidden to even start up internal combustion engines.
    • Judging by that spring perch and the normal looking spring on it - not a coilover. Well.... it is a coilover, just a stock format coilover, rather than what everyone calls a coilover.
    • Yes it is. We get stock from Nismo directly. I'm happy to take photos/video of it as proof before I ship it with timestamps or whathaveyou.
