I just bought a skyline(R33 series II) and am having the following problems. (Lucky its still under warrenty, so I'm taking it back to get it fixed) But just wanted to know if any else has experience this problem.

When I'm going slow at about 20 to 30Km/h and am about to take a corner, i sometimes put it in neutral before i enter the corner then when I exit the corner I put it into gear and drive off.

However, sometimes when i put it into neutral the engine just cuts off and dies.

So now I drive it with the car always in gear. so when i take a corner now, i put it in 2nd or 3rd gear and take the corner. However the same thing is happening and the engine cuts off.

It's not happening all the time. But for the last 2 days of driving, its happened about 5 to 6 times.

The idle is steady. This seems to only happen when i'm going at about slow at about 20km/h.

Any ideas/help would be great.

what kind of bov do you have on your car? if you've got an atmo bov then it would be causing this.

yeah. Its an after market BOV. blitz bov.

but does this mean that the bov is stuffed? or just crap and I should get a better one?

and thanks for the reply.

The venting bov's is a common problem with R33's with their sensitive air flow meters, Because the air isn't being plumbed back and the air flow meter cant sense any air coming back through when changing gears or gearing down it overfuels and stalls. Get the standard one or a plumb back one and make the air go back into the intake pipe or get a safc or another ecu (which is what mighthave been on prior to you buying the car). Go back to standard you cant go wrong if you dont have many mods like bigger turbo.

It could be the BOV but i would also make sure that it isnt a bad connection or dry solder joint with the AFM.

I had a similar problem when i had my GTR and when i changed down gears i had to keep on the revs sothe car wouldnt stall...

Was a problem with my AFM's... Might not be the same for you but dont rule it out.

This is probably a stupid question. But what does AFM stand for?

maybe try tightening the spring on the bov so its harder and doesnt vent on low pressure.

either that or do the afm fix, if it doesnt do anything then grab a stock/plumback bov or get a tune-able ecu/piggyback computer.

Why do you even put in neutral when you enter a coner anyway?

I had a stalling problem when I first got my car, same as yours, it would just die. We traced it back to an air leak that the dealer thought was in the exhaust before the cat. Turns out that the whole manifold on the engine block was not good and leaking. U should get a mechanic to go over your car with a fine tooth comb to make sure that nothing gets missed. It is worth the cost cause if something major is rooted it will cost a lot more than 30 mins of labour or a case of beer to fix :)

Welcome to the forums mate!

    • Ok I get you. But isn’t the butterfly intake a headache with the +T?  see this is my plan so far but please advise me into the right direction.  Nistune Ecu, 1000cc Bosch injectors, TD05 or TD06 Kinugawa turbo using stock rb25det exhuast manifold, walbro fuel pump unsure of model I think it’s 450/460, spitfire coils and sparks to suit and a R35 MAF sensor and boost sensor.    I was thinking maybe do a cheap eBay plenum $400-500 or try find a stock det neo intake. I think I’d port match it so it’s getting the full capacity but open to advice please.  Thanks
    • The issue now is the 'fuel cut' while driving, and when it happend, it does not stall. This, I did not test the fuel pressure while driving as I cannot with a fuel pressure gauge. I do have Nistune logs, yes. I have also replaced the MAF Sensor.   Also related to the FPG Fuel Hanger – I just realized that I need a Deutsch Crimp Tool to crimp some cables for the FPG Fuel Hanger. Need to purchase additional cables as the kit only included 2, which are for the float. FPG has not responded to my emails so far since purchasing. I thought about taking it to someone and having it done professionally, but I am reluctant since everyone I took it to messed up in some way.
    • There's a good German place in Brisbane if youre up for the drive 😛
    • The German place in Cabramatta was rock solid, fresh pretzel cooked to order back then. Then it went all quiet, after all the poker machines were removed, then I believe it closed for good. I did drive past the other week and noticed outdoor lighting a big screen, but no idea what is there now.
    • Yeah I suspect even if you hold airmass per cycle/cylinder constant if you get too far away from stock you're still going to have problems running the factory tune within the bounds of the factory load scale. Cams, different displacement/rod ratio, etc. I'm just lucky that the GTIII-SS with wastegate boost + CA compliance cats is pretty much equivalent to stock turbos. When I have actual space I can finally get it tuned and modify the fuel system for flex fuel to 100% handle any detonation concerns when cranking the boost to whatever those dinky turbos can put out.
