Guest 382 GZV - 4 Door R33

G'day,

Just thought I'd introduce myself (after checking out SAU a bit). May have seen me round a bit - live near UQ.

After having completely broken the auto transmission in my N13 Pulsar for the 2 time in 16 months, I figured I needed something sturdier. I found nirvana at the end of Feb after waiting for over a year :)

I'll try posting a pic of my car on, it may be too big though. It's nothing flash, just the only photo on my computer atm. I wanted something I could keep for a while and since I'm already married (only 20 though) and kids may be sometime in the future, it had to be a 4 door.

Anyways, if you want, say hi when you see me and lemme know what's good and what's not with mods as I am planning on doing something year.

Steve

PS. Skidpan day was great slip; will defnitely be doing the next one :P:D :D

Mountains are mad :-) Is it true that guys drift around corners on the mountain so it's pretty slow going??

What are you getting done to your car slip?

Hey, I found driving a skyline is a bit different to driving a Pulsar. I use to have to sit flat footed everywhere round town in the pulsar. When I got the skyline I was in the habit of flattening the accelerator (had to use a fair bit of braking to keep it in check). So I was only getting 280 - 350 a tank! :-( At least it is better now...say 460 a tank. At least I can save for go-fast bits now.

:):D :D

Welcome GZV...

I have recently had my first baby... thus traded in my beloved DOHC Jap-spec VTEC Civic (15 sec quarters) for my black 4 dr manual, too. Turbo cars are certainly different in their power delivery. Civic made more and more power through the rev range - right up to 8700rpm! R33 gives a couple of BIG shoves, one at around 3000rpm and the next at 5500rpm. With the boost wound up a little to 10 psi I'm pretty sure the standard computer is overfuelling and retarding the timing - from what I've read here in the forum - causing a flat-spot btwn 4200 and 5500rpm. (Maybe MicK51 has a few ideas!) Hoping to get that sorted one day - hopefully soon - but probably when my boy goes to school (in 5 years!!!) and my wife goes back to full-time work!!! Who knows...

Will post a foto here of my 4dr in next couple of days!

Would love to do something on the track. Have taken Honda out b4 but not the 'line yet! Just for the hell of it...

    • So either way it is gearbox out and look what is wrong?  I know about the input shaft bearing. Even before swap/new clutch the it sounded exactly like this: So is that inout shaft bearing or the other was installed backwards?  And can some please tell me the part number for that input shaft bearing? The gearbox is small box from R34 N/A and number is FS5W71C. Thank you
    • I am yet to see anyone ever regret a quaife or helical. ...other than drifting/skidpan duties. I kind of want to upgrade my factory helical with a Quaife (but really it's not ultimately that different, and is a MASSIVE UNDERTAKING), that's how good the hype is about them, that I want to try them 'just to see'
    • D2 and Ksport are essentially the same thing and basically just generic Taiwanese manufacture. Better than ChinaBay crap, but... not top shelf. Öhlins have got to be some of the best dampers around, so likely to be a good option. It's going to get to the point though where I suggest you buy from Oz. We have at least 2x excellent options here. If I were you though, I'd be talking to KW about doing something for the R33. There's bugger all difference between that and the 32. In GTR land, anyway.
    • KW only offers a set for the R32 GTR. Popular options are D2 racing, Ksport or Öhlins. I have a D2 Racing coilover set, though I don't know for sure which one.
    • Well, the good news is you have more than one very good option for new coilovers in and around your country. Worth the drive over to KW to talk about GTR stuff.
