Has anyone had any contact from Gary?? I last heard from him was about a month ago. I don't mind waiting for quality but this is becoming a bit beyond...

  • 1 month later...

Hi All

Matt here

To Anyone who could not get through, I am now answering PMs and all questions for Gary the best I can. With the new business extremely busy, we have been flat out, however gary is off on Holidays to the USA next week for 5 weeks. This does not mean that sales will hault, as I will personally be looking after all sales and enquiries from this point on. For anyone with more technical questions, there are some I can assist with, but any that I can not will be forwarded to Gary.

So please, PM me (I will check the GB threads when possible, but PM is best - I will supply an email address and a phone number for me)

Cheers

Matt

Still waiting for a reply 2 months after trying to contact Gary, and 2 weeks after PMing Matt.

My problem with the GB suspension still has not been addressed.

Has anyone been given contact details? Maybe you could PM them to me.

Thanks

Hi All,

I have gone ahead with the Road kit. Looking at getting it installed professionally, got a quote from one of the listed recommended installers in Sydney of approx $1100. I felt that was very expensive. What has everyone else paid so far for the install?

Thanks in advance..

Heasman's right?

Where abouts in Sydney are you.

It is not overly hard to install yourself if you have sockets, jacks, spring compressor (about $30 from supercheap or you can be ghetto and use vice grips or something). About the only thing you can't do yourself (or it is recommended a professional do it) is press in the bushes into the arms and wheel alighnment.

Pressing in the bushes should not cost more than $200.

There is a "home" mechanic on nissan silvia.com 0 ask around on there.

Otherwise I know a good suspension place near the shire I can get the number of the place.

Heasman's might have been the one!!? ;)

They made out to sound that it was going to take two days to install, I ran them through the kit and the price went through the roof, yet they told me they install the kit all the time???? So if they installed the kit all the time they would know how long it would take and how much it has cost other s15 owners. Felt like I wasn't talking to the right person. I am sure they do a top notch job, I just don't want to pay that much when I hear others have paid half that.

I have found someone local to me (Ryde area) and I am quite sure, with a mates help, that we can do most of it ourselves.

Appreciate your offer of help and advice, will let you know how I get on...

Still haven't heard back from Matt yet since I put the money through... hope it all has been ordered! Very keen to get it put in...

Yes Monty, I ordered the kit....

The hardest bits are the front struts - as I said, I would do it here if that was not such a screw around. I can do the bushes, I have a press, but not the patience required for the strut legs

Hi Gary/Matt/All,

looking for some help on a recent Road kit installation. Was installed by a very reputable suspension shop.

1. Appears the rear sub-frame alignment kit doesn't fit - p/n KCA349

2. Front Camber pins do not fit p/n KCA414

3. Rear Camber fit doesn't fit KCA347 - Was told it was not needed anyway because camber is already has a suitable setting

4. Extra set of bump stops sold but not needed

Now the last part and the worst ;)

4. When I go over bumps, speed humps, it sounds like the spring seat or the springs are moving around. Makes a clicking noise. The guys pulled the rear end in and out 3 times, couldn't get to the bottom of it...

any ideas anyone??? Called Matt and his phone either went flat or he turned it off!

Thanks in advance...

Hi Carl

Unfortunately my phone died in the ass on Saturday

1. Well, unless Whiteline have supplied the wrong parts in the kit, KCA349 is the correct part number, and we've sold plenty of them for S15s. I suggest either the bushes are wrong (unlikely) in the right kit, or they didn't actually know what they were doing with the kit (not the first time). Simply put, it should fit, and that worries me a little, especially knowing who installed the rest of the kit.

2. Again, KCA414 is thwe right part number for an S15... as above

3. May not have been required technically, but should fit, again, as above, it is correct for the car

4. That was my fault... Mistake made by me

Issue 5

Worries me, because we haven't had this issue before. It has the same rear end as a skyline, so its not all that unique.

My opinion - spring seat upside down is a common one.... But without seeing it, I can't diagnose.

My whole opinion is basically as above - It sounds to me like they just simply haven't done many nissans, and we've not come across this many issues with the correct part number supplied. Either they couldn't work it out, or they had no idea, I don't know.

Solutions - I might just have to fix it myself, because the people who should have done this properly haven't, and that disappoints me.

And Carl, check email and call me please.

Cheers

Thanks Matt or Gary,

Here is what Gary said to me back in March this year;

"So Gary, what changes would need to be made for the extra weight of the RB25 in the S13??

Cheers

Simon

Thanks for the wrap Simon. For the S13 with RB25 I would go for the Track Kit, but I will specify some slightly different spring and damper rates. Nothing major, just a little tweak......"

Sorry couple of short questions,

I am after the track kit

1. How much neg camber can be dialed in with the track kit? I currently have-3.2 its not enough, I need around -4.0 on the front?

2. Gary recommended a minor change to the damper and spring settings for my heavier RB25, is this still required with the track kit?

3. What size stabiliser bars are these- i have whiteline on my car already, the front is a version that fits around the RB25sump.

4. You seem to have listed rear camber kit twice on the "track kit" is this a typo?

5. i currently have tune agent adjustable castor rods front and on the rear, toe, thrust and camber pieces- would you suggest i keep these or ditch them and use your complete kit?

Kind regards

Simon

Hi Simon

We can work with the RB25 in the S13, nothing major, we've done it before...

1. Something we haven't listed in the kit though is the Noltec low profile strut tops, which, combined with the camber kit, will add additional camber where required. 4.0 should be acheivable, but the question is why do you need so much negative camber, it will destroy tyres...

2. We'd go to a 5.5-6kg front spring and match the shocks appropriately, so allow $10 for revalving

3. Generally go a 27mm front, 24mm rear for drift or circuit, 22mm rear for street. We also have the appropriate bar to clear the sump. Brand is Selby Sway Bars, made in the old Whiteline premises (do the maths on that if you like). If you have already the right size, then they aren't required

4. It depends on how happy you are with the replacement arms - if the idea of servicing them, and having to replace the whole arm (more than likely) after 18-24mnths is fine with you, then keep them. Ball joints wear out, and japanese replacement arms don't generally have replacement joints unfortunately. But, if you are OK with their downsides, then they are perfectly fine.

CHRISTMAS TRADING

We will be closed from the 21st December until 21st January.

I'm going on holidays, and all group buys will be held off until I return.

PLEASE try to not fill up the PM inbox before I return, and try to PM me after I get back so I can help you all out as soon as possible.

I will not empty the inbox during this time, nor will I answer any PMs.

    • My experience with Rising Sun Exports Before agreeing to the sale I tried to do as much research as I could (obviously), his Facebook reviews are 98% and he goes Live at least once or twice a week. I contacted 2 people in the UK who had used him for their imports, both had positive feedback. His explanation and talk through of the import process was thorough, answering any query no matter how stupid it was. It felt as soon as the money was sent, communication dropped off. I asked for shipping updates every 2 weeks or so, not wanting to pester him, he never had any updates. I wasn't informed the car had been dropped off at the port, I only found out by his Facebook story. I asked for the photos taken at the port, knowing he would need some for insurance purposes. I received a few 5 second clips and that's it. When asked again, he said his staff had them. Weeks later I asked again, he tells me he doesn't have any, but does have 50 photos from the original advert. I never received them. I eventually got the documents sent via WhatsApp after I mentioned the port was requesting them. I purchased a CarVX report, to find out the vehicle is a Grade R with recorded accident damage, first recorded in 2017 when it was first auctioned. He never told me the grade, then again I didn't ask. His response was "Grade R means nothing, it wasn't chassis damage". Still, I would have liked to have been informed about it. Jon prides himself on being open and honest when it comes to inspecting cars, it's his main job doing so at the auctions for customers. When the vehicle arrived in the UK I noticed a few little cosmetic issues. It's a 21 year old car so it wasn't going to be mint condition. The side skirts are cracked on each corner and the sealant is failing. The front grill on the bonnet/hood isn't secured very well, mounting studs are missing. Both minor things, but again, it would have been nice to be told. During a Facebook Live walk around video of the vehicle, he mentioned it has a front Whiteline anti roll bar/sway bar. While on the inspection ramp, I noticed the stock item has been installed. When first questioned, his response was "the ARB? Switched? Since when, it never had them". Since sending video and photo evidence I've not received a response. I'm probably being over critical of the overall condition of an old car, but all I wanted was honesty (which he claims to have). I'm aware I wasn't his only customer, he's busy doing XYZ but other reviews praise him for great communication with regular updates and photos, I felt I didn't receive the same treatment.
    • I was able to get some underside photos while the car was on the ramp The suspension is all Altezza/IS200/IS300 so getting part's will hopefully be less of a headache
    • Welcome to my 2004 Toyota Mark ii IR-V Fortuna (series 2) With a 1JZ-GTE powerplant under the bonnet (hood) it'll give me plenty of scope for power upgrades. For those who aren't familiar with imports, the 1JZ-GTE is a 2.5L 6 cylinder VVTi engine with a single turbocharger. This has the factory R154 5 speed gearbox, along with a aftermarket 2 way LSD differential (brand unknown). Under the arches are a set of CST Zero 1 alloys, 18x9 +30 225/40 up front and 18x9.5 +15 265/35 on the rear. The car was quite low in Japan and there's evidence of the wheels catching the rolled arches/fenders. The tyre's aren't great so I'm in two minds whether to replace both or just the tyres and put up with the wider wheels on the rear. The car still uses stock brakes with the addition of some braided hoses. The exterior is stock with the exception of a BN Sports front bumper and a replacement Fortuna grill  Moving to the interior, the steering wheel has been replaced with a dished MOMO steering wheel (which will get swapped for my Momo Tuner for the time being) Defi Link Gauges are mounted above the climate controls and on the A pillar, the Oil Temp,Oil Pressure,Water Temp and Boost gauges should help with spirited and track driving  The stock seats have been replaced with some retrimmed Recaro bucket seats. Being a larger build these are a little snug, unfortunately the orange isn't for me so I'll look into replacing these down the line. Other modifications include a twin plate clutch, Blitz intercooler, Evolve alloy radiator, a stainless exhaust with decat, HKS EVC-S boost controller and coil overs
    • Apologies for the long read My R34 GTT was up for sale at the beginning of spring due to a few repairs creeping up. The strut tops needed replacing, roof and bonnet (hood) painting (yay for 3 stage pearl) and the underside stripped and treated. I sold the car which allowed me to be in a much better place financially. Leading up to the sale I was already thinking about the replacement. In an ideal world it needed to be a good all-rounder. Something I can mess around with, modify, do track days, do the school run, go on long drives etc.  Options included but not limited to... Laurel C35, Evo 8/9, Civic FD2, Impreza Hawkeye, Aristo and even an Audi S4 Avant (I've already got the Mazda 6 wagon). But there was always one car at the top of the list The Toyota Mark ii JZX110 I found an advert on a Facebook group for an example in Japan, from a seller called Jon at Rising Sun Exports. A few messages back and forth and Jon calls me from Yokohama one morning (or afternoon in his case). He briefly explained the import process, the costs involved and a repeat of the advert. After much deliberation, the price was agreed and the sale was locked in. I've never imported a vehicle so I jumped into the unknown head first. The money transfer was completed through wise.com (fees apply), very easy to use and the money was with him within a day or two.  The car suspension was raised for the vessel and the car dropped off at the port. It was 7 weeks later when the bill of lading was received and the freight invoice sent to me, followed by the export certificate a couple of days after (both digital copies) In the mean time the port had been in contact. I needed an agent to deal with the NOVA (notification of vehicle arrival) along with the tax/duty invoice, this was £75.00. The port also had a fee of £100, I'm guessing to cover the cost of the 10 day 'free storage' and for moving the car off the boat etc. They need a copy of the vehicle invoice, freight invoice and export certificate to allow the vehicle to pass through customs. The vessel arrived on Tuesday 5th August, the tax/duty invoice was generated and sent over. This is generally tax 20% and duty 10% of the vehicle value. Although the invoice came in at a higher amount than I had calculated. Once HMRC had received the payment the vehicle could be released from customs. I thought once the tax/duty was paid you could collect at any point, that's not the case. Your agent will need to book a collection slot, I requested Thursday 7th which was accepted, with a 9:00am slot allocated. It was a 5:00am start from Norfolk heading to Southampton. We eventually found the compound, upon presenting the bill of lading and some ID they released the car (they drove it out of the compound to the front ready for us to load up). The email from the port stated each slot had a 10 minute window, which seemed abit farfetched but the staff said it's not a strict rule. We were there for approx. 30-40 mins in total. A week prior to collecting I contacted my garage and explained the situation, I was able to get an inspection slot that afternoon. For the registration, DVLA require the car to be insured, for this I used a company called Adrian Flux who can insure the vehicle using the VIN number.
