Greetings fellow 'liner-lovers,

I'm a soon-to-be owner of a fairly stock R32 GTS-t and I want to ask a few questions about a couple of "cheapie" upgrades I heard about a while back.

I was told by a kiwi guy in a "Hi Octane" DVD about a few bang-for-your-buck upgrades being a compressor wheel upgrade (housing stays as-is, but the compressor wheel is swapped out) and the boring of the throttle bodies if I remember correctly.

I'm looking for about 160kw or more (not too much more ) but don't want to spend the world to get there.

I've got an aftermarket intercooler going on when it reaches my garage, so cooling is taken care of (mostly) but I want to know what the goodie upgrades are out there just to get a bit of a kick under the right foot.

Any information is greatly appreciated.

I'll have about $2000 to spend..

Thanks again.

i'd say turbo back exhaust, high flow cat, FMIC, SAFC or a propper tunable ecu (or a remap) and a boost up (use a piss-fart T-piece boost controller for that if you want, they are pretty cheap). Should happily see you to 160rwkw IMO. If you do the "compressor wheel upgrade" (he probably means a hi-flow job, not so cheap), you could probably easily go for 200rwkw or therebouts. By then you'd want to be looking at injectors and fuel pump etc. But yea, just to the simple stuff/basics first and you should be right.

BUT, is that $2000 AFTER your FMIC install or BEFORE? Kinda makes allot of difference

Heh thanks for the input guys.

Where might I find an R33 turbo for sale?

If there are any that you're excluding because of a slightly higher price, feel free to include them and pricing as $2000 wouldn't be my absolute limit, I could push it for the right upgrade.

Also, can I ask for less abbreviation? I don't know what half of that stuff is lol

Thanks again! I'll definitely post up the results of the car purchase and upgrades.

Have you already got an after market exhaust system from turbo back?

I've not yet bought the car. I'm waiting for a fellow to get finance to buy my current 2005 Hyundai Getz, then when that goes, the R32 will be in the garage within the week.

The zorst seems to be the first real upgrade so I would say that's a given.

My mate has a 94 GSR Lancer, 1.8l 4wd Turbo, got a mandrel bent zorst and claims a 30kw increase?

Cost him like $2,500 but I never thought a zorst would boast this kind of increase.

Thoughts?

PS: If you do happen to have a suggestion, links or prices of the upgrades would be highly highly appreciated.

Signed,

The ultimate car noobie.

mate from experience get a fuel pump first!!.. cost me a motor

then a good flowing exhaust... then a front mounted intercooler so when you do raise the boost level the inlet air temp is much cooler allowing for the boost level to be raised.. all thats left after that is a panel filter and you will see your power goals... shortly down the line you might want to factor into your bill a deccent clutch.. as the extra power going through an assumed standard clutch wont like it very much...... to find cheap items etc... cheak out the for sale section and bussiness traders on this forum.. all else fails theres a sticky section power upgrades for rb20 powered cars with dyno results http://www.skylinesaustralia.com/forums/in...howtopic=103095

enjoy ..... ryan

A fuel reg and hoses? Whats the point in that?

It does not give you more power because the stock geat wont even be maxed out.

FMIC/R34 sidemount - 500/400

Exhaust - 700

S-AFC/tuned - 600

Fuel pump - 200

Total: $2000

Best way to spend the money

ok mate you definately want an exhaust first...

go to www.jsutjap.com and have a look at their full 3" exhaust systems they are a bragain and can see 20+rwkw increases as the stock systems are very restrictive. cost in the range of $900 or so

then get some kind of boost controller. the ones most of us here use are "turbotech" controllers. have a look on ebay i think the seller puts them up there for sale. worth about $50 all up

you've already got your front-mounted intercooler i see, so that is good

and finally, i would get the ECU modified to suit the new changes. this is known as an "ECU re-map". if you're in melbourne, search up someone called "Dr Drift" he works near sunshine and can help you out. for less than $500 you can have him put your car on the dyno, check it out fully, and then re-map your ECU for more power :P

the stock turbo will easily see 160rwkw so don't worry there.

things i wouldn't worry about at this stage:

- bigger turbo

- bigger fuel system

if you start searching for power above 160rwkw then a fuel pump and r33 turbo are great, but right now your car will run 100% fine on the stock items

all the best,

Warren

Thanks for the reply Warren, great information there.

What about boost? I mean i understand the R32 runs 7 psi stock, with a FMIC, I understand I could comfortably boost the stock turbo to about 12 psi without hassle? Is this true or not? If not, what is the appropriate level?

Also, what FMIC would bolt straight onto the R32 stock piping? If there are none, which would require the least work?

I live on the Gold Coast, by the way :pwned:

    • Does it also misfire equally when revving?   Josh is very correct in what you should do. The coilpack harness wiring loom itself is a known problem due to its age and the number of heat cycles it has gone through. Throwing parts at a vehicle to diagnose the issue isn't a smart or good way to do it. Secondly, you may have a bad coil pack, you pop replacements in, they fix that issue, but messing with the harness breaks it, so the issue persists. So now you think "well it wasn't the coil packs" and have to continue chasing your tail, potentially swapping back in your shit coil packs and returning the good ones (yes, I've seen people do this because 'it wasn't the problem' and they want to save money). And suddenly, you've got two issues with the same symptoms...   Diagnose, don't use the spare parts shotgun.
