Hi Guys

Ive been ringing around doing the rounds on getting a new clutch and ive had jim berry say go single and Mercury Motorsport say go double.

Both have good reps and both are saying things that directly contradict each other, so, whats best?

bearing in mind theres a nismo twin in there at the moment which I quite liked the drive of.

If anyone else says 'new' i'm gonna kick them in the nuts!

Mercury are full of shit, what the hell are you doing ringing them anyway! You don't need to replace it. PM Dan (3lit3 32), he is the clutch MASTER! I guarantee it will be well under what Mercury quoted you. Hell you could find another workshop and it would be well under what Mercury quoted you.

And what's with the thread creation on every single question? You didn't listen to peoples' opinions from whoretown, so why is this any different.

That was installed, and he said it was custom made, wouldnt tell me the brand or who made it... Real shady if you ask me... I never have liked mercury much.

Dans not answering his phone :stupid:

I can get my current one rebuilt for under 1k, wont say where or who however. Then theres install costs...

Jim Berry wants 1500 for a rebuilt nismo twinplate. Mercury reckons a GTR will shread a singleplate.

Oh anna just for once, nothing personal and dont fire up, but *please* give up being the forum cop. I didnt break any rules...

The reason I created the thread is because in whoretown the shit gets lost and its hard to keep a track of it. If I loose something and want to come back to it, its hard to remember what page its on and I have to sort through it.

I havnt ignored anyones advice at all. People say rebuild but jim berry told me otherwise, said the nismo's arent good for rebuilds. I have to weight his experciance against his business objectives and then add in what people on this forum say.

Also isnt mercury a sponsor of this club? Thats why I rang them...

Yeh take your own advice and steer clear! If it was a brand that was good, they'd tell you. If you order your own OS TS2CD it will handle your power easily (they are rated to 600hp) and they cost $2400)

Dan is busy during the day and at night as well as he has family commitments. Basically if you leave him a message, he WILL respond, don't worry about that.

If you can get a twin rebuild for under $1000 then FARKING WELL DO IT!!! That is a hella good deal! Dan can take care of installation at his work, and they will give you a fair price on it too!

Actually you know what? You can do whatever you like big boy. I like that kind of toughness in a man :stupid:

Jim Berry will say anything that goes against twin plates. They work, regardless of whether he likes it or not.

i vote for less shit fight, more useful info posted in this thread...

I believe if you have a read, I have posted more useful info that shitfighting. Ian likes to take everything personally and to the heart. It's his 'thang'.

I have considered offering him that service.

Back on topic though. Ian, if you have the $ then get a OS Giken triple plate or double plate.

Just make sure that if you plan on upgrading power in the near future that you get a clutch that will cope with your power output.

I think the doubles handle 600ish and the triples can do up to 850hp.

I have to agree with mrbenno, I've seen how his car goes with the clutch and he didn't have the usual issues most people complain about with the extra plates.

Using what is commonly used isn't a problem, it's the best idea! Proven and working, why stuff with it.

If you like yours, get it rebuilt. And if you asked already, and people answered asking again really wasn't needed.

Surely you can wait for Dan, unless you've run the clutch into the ground and are now risking your flywheel... which is just a stupid thing to do as everybody can tell when their clutch is going... sometimes for the better service you have to wait, dan is but one man.

lol I dont really have the dollars for OS Genkin. Im hoping the rebuild for 800-900 I can get from a friend is the go, but I will hold of and wait for dans reply.

Also main reason I was asking is because I was told by jim berry, who would probably know when it comes to clutch's, to go with a tough single.

    • You just need to remove the compressor housing, not the entire turbo. I would not be drilling and tapping anything with the housing still on anyways.
    • So, I put my boat on a boat. First of all, I'm going to come out and say it. Why is Tasmania not considered a holy goal, an apex that all road-legal modified cars go to, to experience? This place is an absolute wonderland of titanic proportions. If people are already getting club runs for once in a lifetime 30 person cruises to Tassy then I've never seemed to see it. It is like someone replaced the entire place with an idyllic wonderland for cars, and all of the people living there with paid actors who are kind, humble, and friendly. Dear god. After doing a lap of almost all of the place I've found that it's a great way to find out all of the little things that the car isn't doing quite right and a great way to figure it all out. All in all, I drove for 4 hours a day for a week and nothing broke. I didn't even need to open the engine bay. This is by all means a great success, but it has left me with a list of things to potentially address. I also now have a 3D printed wheel fitment tool which annoyingly hasn't got any threads in it to actually assemble it. I might be able to tape it together to check the sizing I actually want to use, but it'll likely involving pulling the shocks out to properly measure travel at least at the front, and probably raise the car while I'm at it, at least in the rear. I scraped on quite a few things and I'm not sure how else to go about it. I was taking anything with a bump at what felt like 89 degree angles. And address those 10 other tasks. And wash the car. God damn it is dirty. And somehow, the weather was perfect the entire time - And because I was on the top of Mt Wellington it turns out it was very much about to freeze up there. I did something I typically never do and took some photos up there in what must have been -10 and the foggy felt like suspended ice, rather than mere fog. If you own a car in Australia, you owe it to yourself to do it.
    • Damn that was hilarious, and a bit embarrassing for skylines in general 😂 vintage car life ey. That R33 really stomped. Pretty entertaining stuff
    • Hi, I have a r32 gtr transmission. Does any of you guys have an idea how much power it will hold with the billet center plate and stock gearset? At what power level and use did yours brake with or without billet plate? Thanks, Oystein Lovik
    • Saw this replica police car based on a Mitsubishi Starion XX parked next to a 'police box' (it's literally a box) in Hirohata, Himeji City in Hyogo prefecture the other day. It's owned by Morii-san who is a local Mitsubishi Starion enthusiast. According to a local radio station blog post, he always wanted to make a police car himself based on ones he saw in his favourite Manga comics.  As it's illegal to modify a car to look like a police car and drive on the road, Morii-san tried many times to get permission from Aboshi police station headquarters nearby. They refused initially by after they got tired of that they granted him permission. However, the car can only be displayed on private property and obviously can't be registered as long as the police livery is present. The car was completed at a cost of 1.5 million yen (US$ 10,000) in addition to the car cost. A location was chosen outside Hirohata Police box where the car can easily been seen from the street. Morii-san has two other Starion road cars, both widebody GSR-VRs.
