Have just fitted a Walbro to my 34 yesterday, no modifcation to the cradle at all and bolted straight up.

If you are on the cruise on sunday you can come here it as long as i can find the correct thrust bearing carrier for my car as it was not supplied in my Blitz twin plate kit.

Are all you guys that are using 044's all mounting them internally out of curiousity?

The best way to get it right it to make sure the pump sits as low as possible yes, but it needs to be eleveated off the bottom just a bit as this can cause cavitation too & therefore a noisy pump.

How long is the sock too? Is it long enough to reach the bottom? I've noted that the standard pump has a very long sock to reach & get a good draw of fuel from the bottom of the tank, if the replacement doesn't do this then you will have problems guranteed.

Yeah that's exactly what I'm thinking of doing with mine when the time comes (before or after a front mount, not sure yet). The 33's sock is very long I've never seen another like it, so best to stick with the standard sock IMO as long as it's in good nick.

044 needs 15 minutes to install..

walbro takes 5 minutes to install..

044 = 350 kws

walbro = 250 kws

ive had both and installed both

Yeah that's exactly what I'm thinking of doing with mine when the time comes (before or after a front mount, not sure yet). The 33's sock is very long I've never seen another like it, so best to stick with the standard sock IMO as long as it's in good nick.

The fuel pump is only a couple of hundred, and the front mount is alot more! you shouldn't need a fuel pump if you don't have a front mount! wouldn't be making enough power to need the use of a bigger fuel pump!

why would you say a 044 will supply the same as a 040?

more glue?

you say you have big plans for the car so all the good stuff is going on straight up, yet you pick the cheapest fuel pump you can find.

you obviously havent learnt what happens when a engine runs lean...

sorry but your post above is highly inacurate..

and just to clarify im talking at the wheels kws not at the engine.

the walbro will not possibly keep up with the fuel demands of a highly tuned, high revving rb25det or similar, at a high rail pressure.

the walbro is a awesome pump for its price and up to 250 kws is all that you need as it will happily run at 50 - 55 psi and still flow enough fuel to keep up.

however

if you are serious about your engine lasting once you have spent $15000 on both bolt on and internal mods, why would you risk it running lean at 7500 rpm?

why have a $150 pump feeding $15000 worth of engine?

It will only live more then a week if you can keep a solid AFR of less then 12:1

and a walbro "WILL NOT DO THIS".

45psi base pressure plus 20 - 25 psi boost = between 65 and 70 psi of rail pressure.

with pressure this high the walbros 255lph will drop down to well below 200 lph

An 044 only makes its true horse power rating when mounted externally of the fuel tank and using a surge tank set up, when they are mounted in tank they only make as much as an 040. I may be miss informed but as i go along i will keep people infromed on how things go with the Walbro in the car, my car will be dynoed after all future modifications to make sure everything is up to scratch.

I guess time will tell if i have made the right decision and i will be the first to admit if i am wrong and have to change fuel pumps in the future, but for now i am happy with the decision i have made.

no probs fella sorry for being a bit harsh,

until you have done the mods yourself, and then pushed them to there limits, i wouldnt type posts like the one in question as there are a lot of new people on here these days that dont search the forum enough to find the true potential of each given mod!

i would hate for a new skyline owner to read your post and rush out and purchase a walbro thinking that it will keep up with a 044. then blow there engine.

i am a big fan of the walbro pump for its cost and size it does a hell of a job. i made it to 270kws at the rears but the afr was real ugly and the 550 nismo injectors at around 90% duty cycle.

by changing to a properlly mounted 044 my fuel flow and pressure both increased to the point where now im at 300 kws and the injectors are only running at around 70%

i hope this helps and just be carefull once you get past 250 kws.

i now have a forged bottom end to prove it...

one last thing my 044 cost me $275 plus another $50 of fittings, filters, etc

my bottom end cost me lots more....

dont scimp on the things that keep your motor alive...

Strongly recommend the 044.

Even if you mount it in tank & then find it's not working good enough, you can convert it to external mount like it's meant to be & it won't cost a lot more. Really it's not designed to work as an in-tank pump & probably is more prone to cavitation for this reason if not carefully set up.

I will keep an eye on everything and as you said i will probably end up getting an 044 but for now i think the walbro will be exactly what i need because i have run out of money for mods firstly i would like to see how far i can go with the stansard turbo so injectors, computer and oil cooler are on the shopping list.

I will definetley keep my eye on AFR as things get serious, to make sure everything is coping with future mods. If you are at the criuse today would like to catch up with you.

    • What 1.5 way? There's no such thing really as a 1.5 way, just different ways of explaining 2 ways with different ramp rates. HOWEVER. In any driving in a straight line your 1.5 or 2 or 1.7 way should have no clunking at all. With the clutch fully depressed the diff should be silent (unless it's welded but I'm assuming it's not). Something aint right here.
    • Clutch is a spec brand, new clutch system,( PP, flywheel, friction disc, etc. pull type) installed 100 miles ago, with no problems.
    • looking for some help and maybe some insight on others experience with a new LSD. R34 GT ran and drove beautifully, but always alot of grip loss due to the open R200 rear end, so I just installed a new 1.5 LSD way into the stock open R200 for a ER34. Simple. Everything seemed right. I test drove for the first time this weekend. as I started to back out the garage the first time slowly with tires straight it sounded and felt like I had a loose or half disconnected drive shaft...that was clucking around loose and shaking entire vehicle, and making it feel like the trans clutch was spontaneously slipping then grabbing very roughly while just letting out pedal slowly. I backed it out went to pull forward with the same noise, shake and slip grab feeling with hesitation, I turned the tires to back out more and then pulled ahead some same thing but worst because of added wheel resistance (which that I expected) puzzled … pulling it back in checking everything over and finding nothing wrong, I tried it the next day. same thing, couldn’t believe how it shook everything again making a terrible noise and making it feel like the trans clutch was slipping and grabbing, but I got it out of garage into the driveway, got it straight, drove forward and then reveres a few times in a straight line everything shaking , causing what felt like clutch slip and grab every time, sounded like right behind front driver tire and I could feel it in the floor board with my feet,... worst right when beginning to let clutch pedal out to engage slightly, shuttering and sounding terrible along the way…I managed to slowly get down the road, babying it the whole way, once I was rolling (out of 1st) seemed to be better and between shifts, then clutch felt closer to normal…not slip/ grab etc., but back down to any stop, straight road or turning, same thing. Made no difference if all tires were straight or if I was turning. All other gauge read out correct. with in 2 miles as planned I reached the empty parking lot and performed the break in procedure that came with lsd, essentially to drive in a figure 8 a bunch.  Did this, binding chattering, and shaking the car the whole way. I drove it back home seemed somewhat normal once I was in straight line and past 10 mph or so, and I know it will “bind” on corners and cause some tires squeal when turning especially from a stop, but when I begin to move it still causes what feels like the trans clutch to slip and jerk badly as well as shaking the entire car, and sounds terrible, that I didn’t expect. I used the fluid they supplied with LSD kit and did the breaking, planning to change fluid as they suggest after breaking, but wondering will it get smoother or less aggressive with use? maybe a 1.5 is just too aggressive for normal road driving?   I have a LSD that I put in my 71 cuda when I restored it, with amazing smooth , quite yet effective results. Different style LSD but that ones a joy to drive. maybe expecting too much from this R200?
