Hey all.

Son of SK here

I figure many people here will have been in a simillar situation to me... I know what skyline drivers are like.

So I thought I'd ask the question.

After a run in with the cops (only one in 12 months of skyline ownership - touch wood), I am basically going to lose my licence (on a good behaviour licence, got done turning right, in the wet, on a crap road, using 2 lanes - a race line damnit).

Now, I'd rather prefer to have a licence, than lose it for 6 months.

Now, my good behavior licence ends this month. I am to go to court March 8 for my appeal (first date, not going to actually be heard for some time I expect). Now, after Feb, I will be on a normal licence with 3 points - but suspect that if I lose in court, everything will be backdated to me being on the GB licence, therefore I will lose my licence...

Is this correct??

Now, had the idea of going interstate - haven't we all - and getting a licence. If I cancel my licence before I go, but keep my licence in my hand (say I lost it??), go to Queensland, get a friend to write a letter stating that I am living there - can I get my full lince when they don't find me on the computer system??

Or, should I not cancel my NSW licence when I go to Qld?

Do I lie when they ask if I have any pending infringements?

What's the whole story about changing states for licences??

Now, I believe South Australia is the only state not using the national driver's database - should I go there?

Worst case - New Zealand - its cheaper to get there than WA...

As long as I have a hard copy NSW licence, can I get a kiwi licence, no questions asked (with proof of address) - or do they check with NSW...

Sorry for the novel of a question, and I know it seems like a lot of bloody effort for only a 6 month loss, but hey, I need it.

Hope someone has some idea

Cheers

Matt / Son of SK :sorcerer:

if you lose your license in one state these days you cant get one in another they are all linked by computer on 1 database now if you get a license from another state and lose the one from your home state you lose your interstate license as well

That's only with states that are linked.... because not all states (and terrirories) are created equal.

SOSK

I won my neg driving charge in court yesterday! IM FREEEEEEEEEEEEE THE GUILTY WALK FREE HARRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR :woot::wub::laugh:

No but seriously.. Get some evidence, lots of pics and put lots of doubt in the prosecution's evidence

I'M FREEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE

you will need proof of residency to get a licence in another state...I am having this issue at the moment as I don't have any prrof. they only except things that don't have "changeable addresses" i.e. rates, rental documents, utility bills (elec/gas/water).

As for the back dating thing, I am sure this is the case here now in NSW. You used to be able to drag out a court case and get more points, then just lose them and not lose your licence (depending on the points of course) but I believe that have now changed this so it all reverts back to the date of the offense. However I still believe that the suspension period starts when the sentence is handed down...I think if they want to revert the date for the offence, they should for hte punishment too, but I guess thgat would mean some people would never really lose their licences because of how slow court proceedings can be.

    • I'm so far behind in the jobs I have to do at both work and home (including car) that I have become immortal. There's simply no way that I can die now.
    • Each to their own I guess  Me, I put just as much time into cleaning inside of the cars as I do on the outside As for getting wet, it is really no different than steam cleaning the carpets at home, apart from the cars carpet dries alot faster than the house, again, I only do it in the hotter months and leave the car opened up for a few hours As I only do it yearly, it is just before I do the diff and gearbox service, so I clean the carpets, then it's up on stands, wheels off, service, clean the undercarriage,  grease the bushings and do a nut and bolt check on everything  Disclaimer: I typically had all the time in the world to kill when I was working 🤣, so spending a full day or 2 cleaning, serving and "looking at stuff" was,  easily achievable, and a fun mental therapy day As for time to kill, I retired last Wednesday, so apart from my physical training, my days are filled with lots of random jobs around the house and garden...."Idle hands are the Devils something something" I am also buying a new house sooner rather than later, I'm actually looking at a potential property tomorrow, I'm looking forward to getting a car hoist as I'm starting to get to old to crawl around under a car, I can only imagine all the undercarriage cleaning and looking at stuff when that gets set up
    • Yeah, I'm not interested in wetting the carpets, and I don't care about brown dirt/dust that lives deep in the pile or underneath. It's not like I crawl around on them in my birthday suit or eat dropped food off them (because there is never any open food in my car). The seats are alcantara (cheap Chinese imitation alcantara, to be sure!) with barely 1" of foam pad behind the surface. That's not getting wet either. Any car that I would be happy to get the interior wet, I would not care to put the effort into.
    • We have one that holds 2.8L of water. On floor carpet that hasn't been touched in 2 or 3 years, will take a minimum of 2 fills of the tank to do a bedroom, and that's going AROUND the bed.   In the cruiser, I used an ENTIRE 2.8L tank, just on the front passenger footwell. But it had some fungus growing, and had been full of mud from being used as a 4WD for many years. I can do that floor again, and it will still pull mud out. However, the water now only looks dirty, not pitch black and leaving full sludge in the bottom of the tank it sucks back into. Oh, and, this is about a $1500 unit.
