Well his set up isnt an "oil breather" the breather system has a breather on it and doesn't send those sh*t gas's back into the intake...

You could hook it up as shown with a catch can that has a breather on it and not run a line back into the intake.

Don't have pics of my old set up on this computer, but both lines off the head simply run to a catch can with a breather and the bits get blocked off so the oils in the catch can and gas's out the breather!

Yea mines like that aswell... one hose from the head to the catch tank and nothing comin out the other side except a little filter on it, dunno if thats how its meant to be the workshop i go to did it.. i didn't need to block off the intake pipe cos they made me a 3" S/S one...

Blocking off is obviously only if you have the bit there on a standard intake pipe

Usually its better to run 2 lines to a catch can with a filter ontop of the catch can so both lines are free'd up rather than using one, i used one small one and it built up pressure in the system which meant bye bye turbo oil seal! Made 2 fat lines with a breather on the catch can and it didn't pressurize the system and kept all the sh*t outta the intake of the car, you'd be suprised when you empty the can how bad that oil actually is lol

I guess the blow-by on a old rb20 runnin 20psi was always goin to be greater than most though

My catch tank is as clean as when i baught it... i'm running 6psi mind you lol

so exactly whats the correct way? wether its legal or not i just wana know cos some people do it differently i suppose or the way your saying jazza80 is that the right waY?

If its clean inside, its means you have f**k all blow-by which means your engine is in top nick, and im not suprised running that boost level, sounds very safe

Legally, it isn't supposed to vent to the atmosphere, so running the lines to a catch can to catch any bad oils, then back into the intake (for the gas's) is the best way to do it.

Illegally, to keep all the sh*t out of your motor you use a breather and don't run it back into the intake...

Just make sure the system has a way to breather (wether that be via the intake or a breather) as without it it will pressurize and cause you some big big problems.

I have found that from having catch can problems in the past with my last car, lines to catch can were abit too small.. built some pressure up and blew the oil seal on the turbo, made both lines bigger with the breather ontop of the catch can and it never pressurized the system! Thought id try to help out so you didn't end up doing that lol

    • Its a 2002 vr-x four VQ25DET, silver. Coil overs, lowered, polished alloys and sport exhaust. Bit of a project, was sitting in a shed for a while but runs and drives great.
    • I wasn’t able to replicate the sound anymore. It was a one time sound so maybe it was just coincidence but it was like small pebbles being dropped in a coke can.   should I try cleaning the MAF? It could be it’s functioning but dirty? I don’t know.
    • Update 4: Hi all. The car drives again! Haven't driven for long, only to store it in the garage again, but the test drive was successful. The coolant and oil leaks seem to be fixed for now. Temps on the engine were also very good, while moving I never even saw 80C water during the approx. 30 minute drive. Ate up all the coolant in the reservoir though so will have to fill that even more when I go to the car next time. One thing that pisses me off is that the RPM gauge is still f**ked, I even resoldered the board twice and used copper paste on the silly screws that are used as connections. Next time I take it out I'll take apart the board and fit new components, I'll see if I can get a replacement IC for it.  I have an appointment set for 22nd of September for the engine tune to 370hp. Alignment also still needs to be done. My hope is that I can get all the legal stuff over with by the end of this season. Anyone of you have advice regarding intercoolers? Currently there is an APEXI core fitted, one of those weird hybrid ones, 600x270x76. I don't think it's bad but it's not new and now I still have the chance to change it now to legally include it in the paperwork. Only issue is that the only options that would arrive in time are a HKS Type R intercooler or generic Ebay spec intercoolers comparable to a JustJap one. Ideally I'd order a Plazmaman but it takes over a month to receive which would mean making the car legal has to wait until next season. Would love to hear some input on this. Same story for my injectors, the previous owner was a nunce and put ID 1050x on the engine. They work but are obviously not ideal at "normal" power levels. But I don't see a reason to change them unless the tuner says it's necessary. I read online before buying a different exhaust that the top secret style rear diffusers won't fit due to the size of the rear resonators. My buddy and I made it work by slightly "adjusting the shape" of the mounting bracket and making some spacers out of 3d print for the mounting bolts. Fits like a charm. Just putting this here in case someone has this problem. Even the hefty HKS Silent Hi Power rear can fits without hitting anything.
