Congratulations stephan

The rules are there for a reason.

Almost every single p plater that I've ever spoken to has been over confident. This means that they think they can drive better than they actually do. They take greater risks.

Wait until you study for your dqt, you'll know what I mean. It covers all the statistics.

I agree with the restriction.

When you're on your Ls, you're still driving aroudn with mummy. As soon as kids get off their Ls and onto their ps, suddenly, mummy's gone, and you feel like you can do whatever you like. yes, I was a p plater once so i do know what it's like. I remember as soon as I got my ps, I used to speed and do burnouts (on private roads of course).

Anyways, learn how to drive. I mean learn how to drive properly, and get some experience before you drive something powerful for your safety, and everyone else's safety.

Personally you are an idiot if you just got your p's and drive a turbo car..

P platers cant drive anyways.. they do enough stupid stupid shit in NA crappy cars.. No wonder they put these ristrictions in..

Don't you kids get it ?

You are not allowed to drive a turbo car. Regardless of what you may think, you do not have the skill to safely control a turbocharged car on your P's.

The majority of the people on this forum will agree.

If you drive a turbocharged car and get caught, which I hope you do. You will not be insured. You will need to pay for all damages, and injuries from your OWN/PARENTS pockets, which I doubt any of you will be able to afford.

Buy a another, non-turbo car, enjoy it. Spend the rest on getting drunk and chicks.

*Puts hands up for beer* Pick me, pick me!

I often drive dad's turbo diesel land cruiser, and because of that, I'm an idiot?

"P platers". What your implying is that 'ALL' P platers cant drive?

a few P platers have done advanced driving education course's. I'm not saying, wow if you have done a few course's then your top shit. but you defiantly have more knowledge than the average joe on the road.

I think a lot of P platers can drive (at the normal road rule's) its when they think there Keiichi Tsuchiya and they exceed there knowledge of driving, therefor 'not knowing how to drive', for those conditions.

The area i live in has the occasional P plater (and the occasional open license idiot) who tailgates me and tries to incite me into a race. Most of the time they're so close, I can't even see their headlights from my rear view window.

Sometimes I'm so tempted to slam on the brakes and see how they pay for the damage they'll do to my car and theirs.

It's these immature pricks who think that they have to race every Skyline or Supra they see which spoils the reputation of Australian drivers.

Having said that, the next person who tries to sniff my exhaust when I'm already keeping to the left like any sane driver will kiss my vehicle's butt.

On metropolitan streets........?

i don't live in the metropolitan area, I'm in the outer suburbs.

in fact, even if i did live in the metropolitan area, i don't see how i would be classified as an idiot. (if thats what you are implying)

there are reasons some people need 4x4 cars. in my (family's) case its to tow a boat. does that mean, i should walk 4k's instead of using a car that is sitting readily in the driveway, to avoid you calling me an idiot.

That post is obviously worth ignoring, she's only trying to get a rise out of you.

There are plenty of turbo cars which aren't "high powered"

Unless you're a commercial fisherman or some kind of water-based tour operator, you don't need to tow a boat.

lol.

My family sometimes like to fish, sometimes we jsut go out on the bay for a cruise.

every summer we drive up to new south whales, towing the boat.

if i don't need to tow a boat, how do you expect it to get from my house, to the water.

Why would we pay to keep it at the marina when we have a 2 and a half acre property to store it.

So i think in our case, yes we need to tow it.

did you not know that LOTS or people have boats? have you ever been to a boat ramp in summer?

Like to go boating does not equal need to go boating.

So far all you've given me is recreational purposes - there's no life or income critical reason for having your boat, or your 4WD.

Look up the difference between want and need in the dictionary. You'll find the former suits you more than the latter.

correct me for saying that we 'needed' to tow a boat.

what was meant was, you need a 4x4/truck to tow a 2 and a half tonne boat

can this thread get back on topic now?

so u dont need ur skyline why do u have one?

I don't have a Skyline.

I have a sports car because I want to have one. Its more suitable for the type of hobbies I enjoy (track work) than buying an econobox or family sedan. However, I freely admit that its a want and not a need.

Its a luxury and a privilege, not a right. And I don't speak or act in any other way with regards to my car.

in nsw , if you got your p's before july 2005 -

your allowed to have a turbod car or up to a V8 - they were the rules brought out. so if you made that cut off date - regardless if you get pulled over you are fine .

i lost my license 2 months ago - for 6 months . which doesnt change anything as far as what vehicle type i can drive . im just paused for the amount time . but in general as stated , cops will only pull you over if you are doing something wrong! but whats weird is:

incorrect sorry.....

if you get a suspension, you have to cop the restrictions...

trust me, im just getting to the end of my 6 month ban, and only last week i found it out...

suckzorz

anyone want to try and find me an N/A r32???

its damn near impossible...

does anyone know how much the fines are??

coz im in the range of getting a gt-t but im also gonna be in my 2nd year of p's with the restrictions

i reckon the more noticeable the car is the more chances u get pulled over...eg candy paint, kit, exhaust, rims, bov..all these are jus magnets for coppers let alone burnouts n speeding

yeh buddy, i'm not sure exactly what the fine is, but soon you will lose demerit points. so its not really worth it.

but lots of people on here say they have never been told off for power to weight.

if you keep your car stock, obviously the less likely you are to get pulled over.

i guess its just luck of the drawer. me personally have never been pulled over in almost 6 months i've had my car.

Add to this:

you screw up big time and go up a gutter. Actually, no, lets put you into an "im a perfect driver, i'll never crash" kinda bullshit category: Someone else screws up and puts you into a gutter and through a shop window... that's why insurance policies have such a huge amount of coverage, cause the other person kept on driving, leaving you with nothing but the blame... You imagine having to pay up $200,000 for the business' repair costs and days of business lost due to damage etc 'cause you're not covered by insurance 'cause you wanted to drive a turbo car rather than something simple that you can learn in for 3 years.

I dunno about you but I'd take 3 years of a little car i can chuck around and have fun in over a debt of $200,000 for the rest of my life. I'd prefer to put that $200,000 to home ownership etc. Wouldn't you?

Imagine it's a car dealership... add 3 new merc's to the bill and it just jumped up to about $400,000.

Still wanna risk it?

That is pretty true.

To be honest, with the new laws coming into effect here in Vic its just gonna get harder and harder to get away with it.

But apart from that, from a safety point of view, a p-plater whos fresh on the road shouldnt really be driving a car with that much power.

This is usually how it goes:

(1) You get your P's

(2) You drive and old car around for a bit (usually your parents).

(3) You do all the usual stupid things in your parents car, and feel like a hero going sideways at 5 km/h in a beat-up 20 yr old falcon that loses traction at 1500 rpm.

(4) You buy a skyline and decide to go sideways - this time onto a gutter, through a fence or into a pole.

I speak from experience: i saved up since 16 yrs old for an r33, bought it at 18 a few weeks after i got my p's. The first week or so i literally had near death experiences in the wet spinning out onto the opposite side of the road. Luckily, there was no oncoming traffic and nothing happened to me or my car otherwise I probably wouldnt be typing here now. Wisened up after these experiences.

The fact is everyone wants a fast good-looking car when they're young. That's natural. But IMO at least get a couple years experience before buying one. It won't hurt to wait till your bout 19-20; you'll be a better driver, know more about cars, and be able to make a better choice.

    • I wasn’t able to replicate the sound anymore. It was a one time sound so maybe it was just coincidence but it was like small pebbles being dropped in a coke can.   should I try cleaning the MAF? It could be it’s functioning but dirty? I don’t know.
    • Update 4: Hi all. The car drives again! Haven't driven for long, only to store it in the garage again, but the test drive was successful. The coolant and oil leaks seem to be fixed for now. Temps on the engine were also very good, while moving I never even saw 80C water during the approx. 30 minute drive. Ate up all the coolant in the reservoir though so will have to fill that even more when I go to the car next time. One thing that pisses me off is that the RPM gauge is still f**ked, I even resoldered the board twice and used copper paste on the silly screws that are used as connections. Next time I take it out I'll take apart the board and fit new components, I'll see if I can get a replacement IC for it.  I have an appointment set for 22nd of September for the engine tune to 370hp. Alignment also still needs to be done. My hope is that I can get all the legal stuff over with by the end of this season. Anyone of you have advice regarding intercoolers? Currently there is an APEXI core fitted, one of those weird hybrid ones, 600x270x76. I don't think it's bad but it's not new and now I still have the chance to change it now to legally include it in the paperwork. Only issue is that the only options that would arrive in time are a HKS Type R intercooler or generic Ebay spec intercoolers comparable to a JustJap one. Ideally I'd order a Plazmaman but it takes over a month to receive which would mean making the car legal has to wait until next season. Would love to hear some input on this. Same story for my injectors, the previous owner was a nunce and put ID 1050x on the engine. They work but are obviously not ideal at "normal" power levels. But I don't see a reason to change them unless the tuner says it's necessary. I read online before buying a different exhaust that the top secret style rear diffusers won't fit due to the size of the rear resonators. My buddy and I made it work by slightly "adjusting the shape" of the mounting bracket and making some spacers out of 3d print for the mounting bolts. Fits like a charm. Just putting this here in case someone has this problem. Even the hefty HKS Silent Hi Power rear can fits without hitting anything.
    • Well they got my money but they are not getting my gearbox !
    • It's needed for rolling idle up, and I think it is a decider on VCT also.
    • I mean, not really. Link ECU's can absolutely still have errors from the ECU thinking it's getting a sensor it's not expecting. I would imagine the speed at the ECU level in Nistune does absolutely nothing anyway? I assume the ECU does not do any fancy TC stuff with regards to front+rear wheel speed or anything of that like anyway. Someone who uses Nistune may be more fluent in it.
