Bosch 040 Fuel Pump Install

G'day guys. I thought i'd save me some cash and install my 040 fuel pump myself. Now i searched in the tutorial section and was going by this tute: http://www.skylinesaustralia.com/forums/in...75&hl=bosch and all seemed to be going ok.

As i started to pull the hoses off (as per the tute) i got the top hose off, which only dribbled a little fuel, then i proceeded to take the bottom hose off (which is circled in red in the attached pic) and it started to absolutely piss out fuel. Is there something i have done wrong? In the tute it says the hoses should only leak a little, but this hose was pouring fuel out and i had to reattach it.

Any help would be appreciated as i dont want to put it all back together only to find out it was something simple. AND i dont want to have to pay someone to do it!

Did you take the fuse for the fuel pump off and then turn the engine over a few time to let all the pressure out of the fuel rail? If you didnt then fuel will come out of the hose for a little while.

hmmm well upon reading another tute just now, that seems to be the way to go. will give it another go tomorrow.

Well i took the fuse cover off and unfortunately i cannot read Japanese....

I dont suppose anyone would know off the top of their head which fuse is for the fuel pump?

Its in your boot next to your battery. It was in enlgish if i remember right.

it's the only blue relay in the boot

I hope that tank is not the same as my series 2 R33 GTR. If it is the pump wont fit. I got a shock when I pulled out the pickup assemly to find that it was nothing like the pictures of the 040 being fitted to a series one GTST. You have a plastic screw on cap like mine, not a screw on plate.

i loosen the cap before i remove any of the lines. when fuel comes out i just let the sucker drain back into the tank. you may cop a face full though so be careful.

also, youve got some ugly looking wiring jobbie in your boot, clean it up before letting fuel all over the place.

mate if i were you i would disconnect the battery after youve depressurised the fuel system,just looking at that wiring you dont want any sparks near that tank.

I saw a few steps of a R32 GTR replacement fuel pump when my mate did his.

From memory, he went under the car and hose-clamped off the fuel line (the high-pressure outlet one. Return shouldn't be too bad) where the line changes to rubber pipe for a bend.

That might save a lot of fuel flying back out in yer eye!

I ended up just taking the fuel pump fuse out and turning the engine over a few times. There was still some fuel spilling out but it wasnt too bad.

It was a bit of a mission getting it in but it ended up fitting.

And i agree with you guys, that wiring IS horrible, thankfully its not from my car, its a pic from the tutorial that i used as an example!
