So are you creating a VPN connection through successfully yet?

What errors do you get if VPN fails, does it just time out.

Is windows firewall enabled on the 2k server?

thats what I'm doing. think RDP on wireless and you have it.

the connection times out and stops- you can see the inbound data coming in.

firewall is off but zonealarm isnt. thats set to pass on one port only.

I'll know a LOT more in about 3 hours after I get the new router.:P

What VPN protocol are you using?... PPTP or IPSec?

Do all firewalls allow 3389, 1723 or 500/4500

Zonelalarm can be bloody troublesome, even if if you turn it off it still has a habit of blocking incoming.

Just to rule out Zonealarm being the cause, check the blocked zone log for the laptops IP.

I know Chris is using a different router now but just to clarify...

The problem definitely seemed to be the port forwarding on the router, I configured it to the best of my knowledge (lol) but it just didn't work. The rule I set up on the firewall allowed the RDP traffic into the router, but I could not get it to forward, regardless of what I tried. There are counters that show how many packets have been matched a given rule, so we could literally watch them get through the firewall but not get forwarded.

I won't pretend to be an expert when it comes to this kind of thing, but the menus and terminology on that router bear little resemblance to anything I'm familiar with. I had all the settings correct as far as I could tell and even had the RDP rule right up the top of the list and it just did not work.

I don't feel so bad now that it seems everyone else hates these routers too

So what router did you end up getting Chris?

Having the rule up the top wouldnt really make much of a difference in some cases.

Having a rule at the top could sometimes override any other rule underneath it or depending on how stupid the router can be at times, the bottom rule can override the top rule cause it was the last one to be actioned.

PLEASE TELL ME U GOT A CISCO ROUTER!

CISCO FTW :P:D :D :D :D :D

No. 5 IS ALIVE!!!!!!! :(:):D !!!!

now to set it to something oddball to get rid of the f'wits...

(suggestions -pm pls.)

Mate, check out this site

I'm not sure on the cost. but it works very well.

good luck!

Quick Feature Overview

- Remove Printer Drivers from your Terminal Servers

- Print to any available Local Client Printer without administrator intervention

- Familiar Printer Names

- Increased Print Speed

- Decreased Print Bandwidth w/Compression, Streaming, and Bandwidth Control

- Printer Management Console (see Simplify Printing Bundle v4.5)

- Windows XP Remote Desktop Connection Supp

ditch that dog

zonealarm is horrible

netcomm nb5s are also

disabled it on both machines so I have NO issue geting what I need off the server. Qbooks runs just as fast remotely via 3g as it does on the server so I'm happy there. I can print to other machines just not the one I need to (in the van.)

I cannot see the printer (with the 3g link up.) on the server for some reason. I can see EVERYTHING else on the remote machine (pdf printer etc) but NOT the actual printer.

gilly,

you're on.

Lol yeah the router has an arrangement where it numbers each rule, like the old days of line numbering in BASIC code (10, 20 etc). I tried the rule at the top and bottom, checked for anything in between with a "don't check past here" tag or something, nothing worked. The limited info I could find stated that rules were processed top to bottom and the first rule to match the packet was processed. So I put it first and it was still being ignored... I've never had that much trouble setting up port forwarding before!

Either way, it sounds like the NB5 has done the job... regardless of whether they are a good or a bad thing, they are definitely easier to work with (and have a much more usable port forwarding setup) than the original one :D

yep it works - its almost as fast (response time) as having the remote pc on a physical lan. I'm happy - still need to sort this printer out...

with the printer, have u actually installed it, like start ->printers and add printer etc etc, you would just need to share the printer from there, technically should all work.

Make sure the printer is installed and shared, from there on your remote machine if its not coming up as auto detected, find out the name of the printer from your local machine.

Go into the Printers section of your remote machine and add a network printer, then select "ADD THIS PRINTER" and enter the name in. It will scan for that particular printer name through your network and hopefully pick it up.

The sharing and automatic detection often goes bannanas.

it works and exists on the remote machine. I cannot see it onthe server - manual entry I thought of but considering it was near dark when I was working on this I ran out of light. will work on it morn this arvo.

    • Haha, i kow right? Could have bought so many cars for the same amount of money (or less) but driving Unicorn gives you at least +1mln to style 😅. Like wise man said "life's to short to drink cheap wine and drive boring cars" 😉
    • Newbie here, proud owner of an Autech 260RS. I'm on the hunt for wiring diagrams specific to the 260RS, particularly S1. I've ran my eyes through R33, R34 Diagrams, there are some similarities, however continue to find incorrect wire colours and pins on connectors in the 33,34 diagrams.   I was hoping someone could point me in the right direction? I'd be happy to pay for the originals in Japanese. I can translate them, at least they would be accurate.   Any help please would be greatly appreciated, never heard an RB26DETT before let alone driven one, and I've got a spaghetti monster of goodness to sort out.   Cheers Benny
    • Hey all  im wondering if you can help me please I have put a rb20 box in my r34 gtt as my auto packed up and a friend had a spare box I know it’s not ideal but it will get me up and running for now. we have done the conversation and everything is working great but my Speedo we got a s13 speed sensor but my Speedo reads double now and I bought a speed converter but still not having any luck.  so I thought I’ll reach out and pick your brains  any help would be appreciated please as I wanna drive my car again
    • Drain it. I got official Matic D but you can get whatever is listed as Matic D compatible.
    • Thanks guys,  Yeah I should at least have them dynoed, at least then I know what I've got as a starting point.  The springs on these are hard as rocks. I vaguely remember Russman saying he was going to sell the shocks to me with the rocks fitted, as he was keeping the softer springs for his new setup.  I didn't click at the time but of course that was to let me know the shock/spring wouldn't be matched.  I also remember pricing up new springs around 2014-15, but, house, money etc. it never happened. So that was another reason to have them rebuilt. I have rebuilt the forks on many motorcycles so I think I could handle the seals on these easily enough, but getting the valving right would be a rabbit hole I cbf exploring.  Duncan, interesting to hear RP was tuning these back then. I might give them a call.  In the mean time I have been busy fitting sway bars. The Whiteline rear sway bar I purchased 15 years ago finally got fitted, along with the Whiteline front bar that showed up last week. Just waiting on new links for the front sway bar to finish that off.  And my spare set of advan AVS VS5's should be back from the powder coaters in a Pearl White finish sometime this week, with a set of Hankook RS4's lined up for fitting.  And then I just have all the suspension bushes to do. A comprehensive kit is on the way... Lots to do before the Ararat hill climb. Cheers guys 🍻
