Greetings,

Hi guys..i'm Jai from Malaysia..

i've a few questions and opinions to ask you guys..

i have a 1984 Nissan Bluebird 910..(it's not a skyline..but it's classic.. :D )..just finished bodyworks and full chassis strengthening...this car will be used 100% for drifting purposes only..

now i'm deciding on what engine should i put in it...either SR20det, RB20det or RB25det...

at first i want to use SR20det..but here in my country spare parts and upgrade parts for sr20 are more expensive than RB parts...furthermore...i read a lot that sr20 motor is not as tough as rb motors...especially the valve train components...so..it's very unfortunate that if i want to built more power safely, i need to put a lot of money to upgrade it's reliabiltiy and durability i.e. stiffer valve springs, rocker arm stopper kit, sping retainers, trust oil pan and etc..

RB20det conversion in a 910 is very common here in my country coz it's the cheapest solution..a lot of RB users here are afraid to use sr20 bcoz of the above mentioned factors...as far as i know..there's very few people install RB25det in a 910 coz it's a bit more expensive than Rb20det..

i've tested a rb25det cefiro and i feel that the pulling torque and response is phenomenal!! i believe it's greater than sr20det..

if i install RB25det...will i totally mess up the balance of my 910 for drifting? if anybody know..what's the weight of Rb20det and Rb25det?

i feel that Rb20det's torque comes a bit later in the RPM range...if i use this engine..how can i increase the response and make the torque comes earlier? (like Rb25det and sr20det)

i have no budget constraint if it's a RB coz i know the motor is tougher, reliable & more robust than SR, so guys...what do you guys think? for drifting...should i go for Rb20det or RB25det straight away?

Really appreaciate your advices and recommendations..Thanks :D

rb20........ great bang for buck....and in a light car... pull insanly hard.... ( i should know, ive done it in my lil gt)

140KW @ the treads and it only ways like 1000kg.....

If you have them there I would consider a KA24DE , belt drive DOHC 16V engine and no rockers like SR20's have . They are a long stroke engine but being a four much shorter than an RB 6 . Bluebirds are a problem with long engines esp FJ20's where they have two staggered twin row timing chains AND a water pump on the timing cover in front of those . These cars fight you all the way with fitting adequate cooling and intercooling systems but it can be done - been there .

As per the 2.4 litres , they make more torque at pedestrian revs than FJ20's/RB20's so you can fit turbos that work well with the combination . In the US they play lots with turboed KA24DE's and there is lots of parts available for them . Here in Aus we get the KA24DE in a comercial vehicle and std it has 8.6CR pistons so has potential unopened . Search Jim Wolf Technology and the US sites who cover the S13 and S14 240SX cars , the S14 had the KA24DE in RWD form .

Cheers A .

he're in Malaysia we don't have KAs..hehe...i'm sure the torque of a KA is phenomenal considering the length of the stroke..

how about between these two..RB25 and SR20 for drifting...what do you recommend...?

go the SR20. Lighter than the RB, has a punchy power curve with a slightly larger turbo, and easier to fit your application

yeah I would go either the RB25 or the SR20. the 20 is a great motor, and light and torquey, but if you have trouble with support and parts in your country then it's probably not a good choice. The 25 will be nice and torquey, and is not much (at all?) heavier than a RB20 so I would go the RB25 in your case.

i'd go the SR, if you want it for drifting then thats the go and if the balance of the car is better with the SR then thats another plus.

from what i know drifting seems to be more revs and car balance more than low down torque, mate up a desent turbo and you'll be fine...

    • There's restrictor pills in the stock boost control hoses. That's how they set the amount that was bled off and hence the "high" boost setting. The usual mod in the day was to remove it and send the "high" boost setting up to about 14 psi.
    • Thanks Duncan, that's the best info I've read. Furthermore after learning about the PCM programming side controlling the factory boost solenoid, the purpose of the solenoid is to "bleed" boost when pin 25 is earthed, thus allowing spring pressure in the wastegate actuator to overcome diaphragm boost pressure, thus closing or reducing the position of the wastegate flap creating more boost as the turbo is able to spin faster. It's pretty cool to see a designated Pill to do exactly this, would have liked to have seen it with a tiny filter over the end for those moments in vacuum.  The constant bleed pill has now been removed completely from the system and solenoid boost control has been restored once again.   Case closed 😂
    • The wideband reading is meaningless if it's not running. Why are you using shitty old sidefeeds on any engine, let alone a Neo? What manifold and fuel rail are you using to achieve that? Beyond that, can't help you with AEM stuff as I've never been their ECU/CAS combo.
    • Manual boost controllers (where a little of the boost was bled off) were quite common back in the day, because they were cheap and easy. Generally they had a manual adjustment screw rather than being fixed like yours. Down side is they always bleed boost, not just when you want them to so an electronic boost controller that uses a solenoid will have less lag.
    • Hello , im new here and i have A31 home build  RB25det neo stock eng / turbo  aem ems 2 blue connector  aem 3.5 map aem cas disk aem wideband connected to ecu  355 lph pump 550 nismo yellow injectors side feed aftermarket regulator  and won’t start with base aem tuner basic tune eventually flipped cas 180 degree so it triggers on correct stroke not in exhaust cycle  Now it won’t start Wideband reads 10 and 11 at lowest fuel setting  and will share calibrations soon for aem tuner i think something is wrong in aem tuner    please if you have any information, am very grateful
