I just received the above item. I was just wondering, where the hell is the new solenoid wired into? (Bloody Japanese manuals!). I was hoping it would all connect into the extra port on the Power FC so I didn't have to start hacking the ECU wiring up, but it seems only the MAP sensor goes into this port? Is this correct?

And if that is correct, I assume I will have to wire the new solenoid into the ECU loom, into the same pins as used by the factory solenoid?

I guess if thats the case I could just cut the wires near the factory solenoid and wire directly up to the new Apexi solenoid which will save me getting the new Apexi solenoid wiring thought the firewall. I will just have to work out the polarity (although this should not matter on a solenoid anyway should it?)

Any help greatly appreciated! :P

Thanks guys! That will make life much easier. The only thing is the plug on the new solenoid doesn't fit the old plug, you think they would try and make this the same as the kit is model specific. Then again sourcing Nissan specific socket types for each model would be a real pain.

Anyhow I will just cut it off and wire it up - just to confirm, with a solenoid it should not matter which way the two wires are connected should it?

it will matter, if they are backwards it wont work

by wont work, the solenoid wont open, which means the gate wont open, which means unlimited boost, which means rebuild

so drive slowly and check and test it, monitor boost on the hand controller as well when doing it

Cool, I will give it a go this weekend. I should have a better than 50% change of getting it right 1st time as the solenoid has red (positive) and black wires, and the solenoid has brown (positive I think) and blue wires...

Can't wait to get the boost kit installed, then I can take the car to get the PFC tuned! No more nanny driving worrying about the thing detonating :)

Hi , I went through that situ recently with a late new R33GTST PFC Boost Kit . Because I hate hacking the cars loom I cut the standard wire between the plug and the factory solenoid valve . I think the wires were connected dark to dark for the earth side . My boost kit came with a long generic extention cord that had a white plastic plug with 90 deg oriented male spades . I simply crimped two female spades to the remaining section of original solenoid wire . It means having about 3 ft of wire coiled up (cable tied neatly) behing the airbox but it saves whimps like me cutting anything I dont have to . I need to make a flat plate that extends the bracket where the std solenoid sat to mount the Apexi solenoid valve . I could not find any way to mount the new valve in the std posi with the std airbox in place .

To revert back to the std ECU/valve use the male crimp spades on the solenoid half of its wires so it could plug back in .

IMPORTANT NOTE !!! If your R33 GTST hade the permanent earth mod to be in "high boost" all the time disconnect the earth . If you don't do this to a modded car the solenoid vale stays shut and it will boost untill it breaks something or in my case boost cuts .

BTW you can cable tie the map sensor to the std boost gauges map sensor mount bracket , sounds dodgy but works and good stealth value . Run the cable along the firewall , mines cable tied to some convienent steel tubes and drops down to where the main loom goes through the firewall in front of the ECU area . I pierced the gromet and fed the small plug through to the PFC box itself . A little bit of black silastic on the gromet would probably help stop it from tearing and letting water run down to the computer .

You're correct, it doesn't care about polarity.

You'll need to tell the PFc that you now have the Apex boost kit fitted.

Don't set the boost too low. The PFc has a fuel cut if actual boost exceeds set boost by 0.25bar and that can happen very easily, especially if you try for a set boost of 0.4bar or such.

Start at around 0.7bar and vary the duty cycle until you're happy.

Thanks guys - all your help is much appreciated. The only other thing is I'm planning to run the MAP sensor cable though the drivers side hole inside the wheel arch, then across inside the car to the PFC. The only thing is I think its going to be 30cm's short by the look of it ;) Has any one else managed to fit it through that hole and have it long enough?

I would rather not go through the main loom hole on the passenger side of the firewall as it is located under the ABS unit and is almost impossible to get at :( I might have to cut the cable and extend it a bit...

    • Even more fun, leave all the ADAS stuff plugged in, but in different locations, hopefully avoid any codes!   And honestly, all these new cars with their weird electronics. Pull all the electronics out Duncan, and just shove an aftermarket ECU and if needed a trans controller in, along with a PDM. Make it run basic but race car styled!
    • To follow up a question from earlier too since I had the front bar off again (fking!) This is what is between the bumper and the drivers side wheel And this is the navigator side, only one thing but its a biggy! So basically....no putting coolers in the wheel arches without a lot of moving other stuff. Assuming I move to properly race prepping this car I'll take that job on and see how the computers respond to removing a whole bunch of ADAS modules
    • So I prepped the car for another track day on Wednesday (will be interesting to see coolant temps post flushing out and the larger reservoir, with a forecast of 3-14 being 20o cooler than last time I took it out). Couple of things to mention; since I am just driving the car and not taking a support vehicle, I took the rear seats out and just loaded the back up Team Trackday style. Look at all that space! To cover off removing the rear seat....it is weird (note the hybrid is probably different because it wouldn't have folding rear seats) Basically, you remove the lower seat base, very similar to a r series but it is a clip that pulls forward to release the base rather than it being bolted down. Easy Then, you need to remove the side section of the rear seat on each side. There is a 14mm head nut at the bottom of the side piece, the it slides upwards off a hook at the top to release; you also need to unhook the seatbelt from the loop at the top. Then the centre piece is weird. You need to release/fold the seats forward with the tab in the boot on each side From there, there are 2,x12mm headed bolts holding the rear of each seat to the folding bracket, under the trim between the rear seat and the boot (4x christmas tree clips there, they suck). The seat is out but you can see where the bolts attach to the bracket
    • As discussed in the previous post, the bushes in the 110 needed replacing. I took this opportunity to replace the castor bushes, the front lower control arm, lower the car and get the alignment dialled in with new tyres. I took it down to Alignment Motorsports on the GC to get this work done and also get more out of the Shockworks as I felt like I wasn't getting the full use out of them.  To cut a very long story short, it ended up being the case the passenger side castor arm wouldn't accept the brand new bush as the sleeve had worn badly enough to the point you could push the new bush in by hand and completely through. Trying a pair of TRD bushes didn't fix the issue either (I had originally gone with Hardrace bushes). We needed to urgently source another castor arm, and thankfully this was sourced and the guys at the shop worked on my car until 7pm on a Saturday to get everything done. The car rides a lot nicer now with the suspension dialled in properly. Lowered the car a little as well to suit the lower profile front tyres, and just bring the car down generally. Eternally thankful for the guys down at the shop to get the car sorted, we both pulled big favours from our contacts to get it done on the Saturday.  Also plugged in the new Stedi foglights into the S15, and even from a quick test in the garage I'm keen to see how they look out on the road. I had some concerns about the length of the LED body and whether it'd fit in the foglight housing but it's fine.  I've got a small window coming up next month where I'll likely get a little paint work done on the 110 to remove the rear wing, add a boot wing and roof wing, get the side skirt fixed up and colour match the little panel on the tail lights so that I can install some badges that I've kept in storage. I'm also tempted to put in a new pair of headlights on the 110.  Until then, here's some more pictures from Easter this year. 
    • I would put a fuel pressure gauge between the filter and the fuel rail, see if it's maintaining good fuel pressure at idle going up to the point when it stalls. Do you see any strange behavior in commanded fuel leading up to the point when it stalls? You might have to start going through the service manual and doing a long list of sensor tests if it's not the fuel system for whatever reason.
