I have my R33 up on chassis stands replacing the suspension and bushes. Decided to start it up today as it hasnt been run in a while. Fired up no probs, but the wheels start turning. The thing's in Nuetral!! Whats going on? dis-engage the clutch and they stop as if it were in gear. Anyone know whats happening? Cheers.

hey man, the reason your wheels are turning with the clutch engaged is because there is still a connection between your crank and the gearbox via your clutch assembly. Your gearbox is still spinning when in neutral its just that there is no gear selected. when you push the clutch padal in, the connection between the crank and gearbox is broken, hence the wheels will stop turning. Thats why when you double clutch it can make it easier to select gears because the gearbox's internals have been sped up to match the speed of the tailshaft/roadspeed.

Hope this helps your query.

Cheers Matt.

there's no mechanical link but slight friction in the bearings and viscosity of the oil means there is some energy transferred. like matty says with the clutch out the input shaft to the gearbox is always spinning at engine speed, a slight amount of energy can still make it across the gearbox and turn the wheels if they are also free to spin.

hey link all gears are spinning as the gears are constant mesh and 4th gear is on the input shaft which spins the cluster shaft, but your right it is only friction that makes the wheels turn.... hope we haven't confused anybody :(

cheers Matt.

If you enjoy a more traditional manual, its the choice no question.
