plenum heatsoak excessive

Recommended Posts

I doubt the intake air is hanging around long enough to extract any heat from the plenum.

If it passes through a hot space the air temperature will rise..but like elk was saying it only gets sucked in when the throttle body is open, so its probably not enough to cause massive heat soak.

Have u wrapped all the piping from the exit side of the intercooler to the actual plenum? I need to do that to mine, as i get pinging after high temps, even though my FMIC is quite large. As the cool air from the i/c passes back across near the engine, it can start to heat up again. Other solution is custom plenum which takes the intake direct from the front without crossing over the engine.. if u want to spend the money.

yes as skydneykid said the air would have to be moving real slow for there to be time for heat transfer to occur between the air and the pipework/engine heat!

Sydneykid - according to the PFC in my GTR, the air temp is a lot higher (at times up to 60 C) when the IC outlet is cool to touch.

One possibility is that sender may actually be heating up by conduction from the manifold. How far does the temp probe go into the air stream?

drift me silly is at my place atm, and wants to say the following =

the air moving quickly theory makes logical sense as does the exit intercooler to throttle body wrap, does anybody know if there is any drop in plenum temperature if a vented bonet is applied? and if so, how much?

    • Hey. Very valuable information about pitwork, I will pay attention when buying any consumable parts 🙏 As for the carpets - I got a handful of information from nengun, from which it appears that indeed the carpets for the driver's side are OEM. They are not able to show me any pictures due to the long chain of different sales entities but after I place the order, as soon as the goods arrive at the nengun warehouse from which they will send the shipment to me they can send me photos and if my purchase differs from OEM I can immediately return it / cancel the purchase. I think I will give it a try 😉. Of course i'll let you know what's what as soon as i get them P.s. I know the topic is not relevant to the thread, but both nengun and amayama have these SICK 😍 trunk room lamps available. Do you know anyone who ordered them? I need to have one in my car
