Hi guys,

have an idea for something, i'm contemplating whether CF film could do the job, instead of paying an extra $200 USD for having the item i want done in CF.

It's just a plastic blade of sorts, so not a complicated shape, it would be exposed to the elements (ie, the outside of the car) but wondering if Carbon Fibre film would be ok

Is it just really shitty stuff? or once it's stuck, it's stuck on?

I know the B pillar garnishes from Nismo are just a sticker really, and you can get cf stickers for the rear spoiler etc, so i guess it can be done...

but has anyone actually used CF film before?

cheers,

daniel

i wouldn't recommend it, i had it stuck on my center console(round hte stereo) it flaked off after being in the sun for a few months, i think it'd be worse being exposed to the conditions, especially with any rain which could get in, it'll also fade rather fast being vinyl

i reckon go CF :D even if it's expensive  damn it looks fine

hmmm... what brand did you use?

because from the ebay searching, it seemed some are meant for exterior and some aren't...

$10 film or $200 USD cf part.... i'd be inclined to just buy a real good quality film for like $20

but yeah, if it's shit... well.... yeah :D

thanks for the reply mate,

anyone else used this stuff?

there's an idea? well, if i go ahead with it all, i'll def keep that i mind.

is clear coat (in a can?) readily available?

means i can polish it :santa:, should add some nice reflective depth to it as well...

just dont get carbon film from ebay.. dont look like carbon at all but stick pretty well..

all the bubbles gone after been on the sun for few days like tint and stick properly..

you can get real carbon from italy for $30.. 30 cm X 30 cm

just need to put resin on top..

you dont need to get carbon from italy.. there is plenty of shops that can supply carbon here in Oz..

i'm sure UAS sells those garnish's in carbon... i wouldn't buy the film as it gets broken down by UV rays turns a funny colour and looks like, well shit.

if they dont i'm sure SATANIC i think his username is on here can get them for you...

In my experience ive found that the 3M Di-Noc CA-421 Carbon fiber film is the best! It looks just like the real thing and is self adhesive - fairly easy to apply.

It is available in Australia on Ebay by searching ‘3M carbon’ or at

or you can contact me for details. I have alot of experience with this film!

if you get decent quality stuff that has no texture it will be fine, clear coating wont be needed and wont stop if from fading, if its good quality they should supply an direct sun outdoor lifespan.

if vinyl is decent quality it should not peel off... I personally would never use carbon film, as I dont believe the carbon look will last, its just printed on, where as solid colour vinyl will keep its colour for years as its the actual colour of the material not a colour printed on white vinyl or anything like that.

Go real carbon, they its guaranteed to look good and wont be an issue in the future.

The 3M CA-421 is a textured pattern that reflects the light NOT printed. It really does look good!

    • What 1.5 way? There's no such thing really as a 1.5 way, just different ways of explaining 2 ways with different ramp rates. HOWEVER. In any driving in a straight line your 1.5 or 2 or 1.7 way should have no clunking at all. With the clutch fully depressed the diff should be silent (unless it's welded but I'm assuming it's not). Something aint right here.
    • Clutch is a spec brand, new clutch system,( PP, flywheel, friction disc, etc. pull type) installed 100 miles ago, with no problems.
    • looking for some help and maybe some insight on others experience with a new LSD. R34 GT ran and drove beautifully, but always alot of grip loss due to the open R200 rear end, so I just installed a new 1.5 LSD way into the stock open R200 for a ER34. Simple. Everything seemed right. I test drove for the first time this weekend. as I started to back out the garage the first time slowly with tires straight it sounded and felt like I had a loose or half disconnected drive shaft...that was clucking around loose and shaking entire vehicle, and making it feel like the trans clutch was spontaneously slipping then grabbing very roughly while just letting out pedal slowly. I backed it out went to pull forward with the same noise, shake and slip grab feeling with hesitation, I turned the tires to back out more and then pulled ahead some same thing but worst because of added wheel resistance (which that I expected) puzzled … pulling it back in checking everything over and finding nothing wrong, I tried it the next day. same thing, couldn’t believe how it shook everything again making a terrible noise and making it feel like the trans clutch was slipping and grabbing, but I got it out of garage into the driveway, got it straight, drove forward and then reveres a few times in a straight line everything shaking , causing what felt like clutch slip and grab every time, sounded like right behind front driver tire and I could feel it in the floor board with my feet,... worst right when beginning to let clutch pedal out to engage slightly, shuttering and sounding terrible along the way…I managed to slowly get down the road, babying it the whole way, once I was rolling (out of 1st) seemed to be better and between shifts, then clutch felt closer to normal…not slip/ grab etc., but back down to any stop, straight road or turning, same thing. Made no difference if all tires were straight or if I was turning. All other gauge read out correct. with in 2 miles as planned I reached the empty parking lot and performed the break in procedure that came with lsd, essentially to drive in a figure 8 a bunch.  Did this, binding chattering, and shaking the car the whole way. I drove it back home seemed somewhat normal once I was in straight line and past 10 mph or so, and I know it will “bind” on corners and cause some tires squeal when turning especially from a stop, but when I begin to move it still causes what feels like the trans clutch to slip and jerk badly as well as shaking the entire car, and sounds terrible, that I didn’t expect. I used the fluid they supplied with LSD kit and did the breaking, planning to change fluid as they suggest after breaking, but wondering will it get smoother or less aggressive with use? maybe a 1.5 is just too aggressive for normal road driving?   I have a LSD that I put in my 71 cuda when I restored it, with amazing smooth , quite yet effective results. Different style LSD but that ones a joy to drive. maybe expecting too much from this R200?
