ok ... im sorry if this is covered .. but i couldnt find anything...

Now im looking to buy a R32 turbo ... however it will be a automatic since i am not the only person driving it ....

now my question is since an automatic gearbox is 90% of the time constantly slipping slightly (except in overdrive when they lock) will the slipping cause major damage if the driver tromps down on some serious accelerator?

will there be too much power for the gearbox? also i have heard of a "shift kit" and this is meant to be legal to drive with an auto liscence? and how do they work?

Sorry if thats a dumb question :(

Any information would be appreciated thankyou

Yeah, more then likely the clutches will slip when you stand on the go peddle. The whole torque converter and clutches can be replaced. Its like servicing a gearbox basicly.

Shift kits, Now there are several ways to shift kit an auto.

One is where they tighten the bands in the G-Box, making it shift harder. Still an auto, but shifts way harder. You could chirp second easy as pie.

Another one, which I'm not to farmilier with, so forgive my ignorance. Is to make it like a clutchless manual. No clutch, but you need to change the gears (1,2,3,D) if you pull up to the lights in D, when you try to take off its gonna stay in D. Not recomended if multiple are going to be using it. An example is, what most drag cars use. Centrivigul clutch I think they call it.

Third is for the bogans who think its shift kitting. That is to buy the pro ratchet shift. So instead of going down 6 places to first, You'd have to go back and forth 6 places to first. If you know what I mean.

Personaly, I would tighten the bands. Ive seen some Auto's that shift harder then a manual ever can.. and thats scary.

A friend of mine a few years ago paid about $400 I *Think* but he had the gearbox out himself. Will probably be more if they have to take it out themselfs.

Thats another way to do it Bubba. Tightening the bands certainly doesnt make it stronger. My mates box that had his done, lasted a week. But its becuase of a few other things that caused the death of it... aswell as belting it to chirp second -every- time lol.

    • Thanks Mate, I did know you could do that but i know there is a pump out there that you can bolt on and it all lines up. I was told about it and then forgot the model, I figure if i am pulling it apart i will just put a new one on
    • You can also remove the veins from the HICAS portion of your existing pump.
    • Trying to swap the rear subframe on my R34 and can't remove the L-shaped stay brackets between the front subframe mounts and the sill/chassis. I'm in the UK so rust is a problem. I've used loads of WD40 and then Tunap 103 for days beforehand. I backed off the bolts forward a bit, backward a bit repeatedly for ages to try and avoid snapping. They have all moved a few full turns. The one I've spent most time on has come loose and I can turn with fingers, and it will pull down and push up 2-3mm. But it won't come out. I can tighten it back up and loosen it off again repeatedly but it still won't come out. I assumed there's a captive nut inside but if that's broken loose then I can't understand why I can always tighten the bolt back up - I'd expect it to just spin both ways. Any ideas what's happening here? I can't visualise what's inside there to cause this.
