Hi all,

My R33 I bought recently has Tein HR coilovers in it which seem riddiculously harsh. I was thinking of getting new springs to replace the existing ones, with a rate of possibly 5/4 to suit aussie streets. However being the HR's, they do not have adjustable shocks, sowould I be wasting my time? Is a lot of the harshness coming from the valving in the shock?

I still want a firm responsive ride, but at the moment the car is just bouncing on the bumps of the adelaide hills rds because it is too stiff!! I emailed Fulcrum, but they wanted to sell me a "full rebuild and new spring rates, revalve etc" at a cost of $1200++ BUT I only want to change the springs at a more reasonable ~$400.

Please help!

Cheers

Lee

Well after trying measure them on the car today, I came up with spring rates around 8 at the front, and 7 in the rear. It was hard to get an accurate measurement (as I dont have verniers) and this rate is calculated using Aurora's calculator. But going on the stiffness seems about right.

So if I were to downgrade those springs to 4.5/4's (still almost double stock rates) would it be ok with the current valving of the shocks?

Cheers

as well as spring rate, the HR tiens are valved for Japanese roads, not for aussie pot holed goat tracks, unfortunatly tien are correct in the only way to get a firm but not harsh ride is a full rebuid and springs to suit our roads.

The problem with changing the springs only is the valving is not suited to the new spring rate.

Save your cash and get some thing else, the group buys are way too good to pass up.
