hey i just got my r33 series 2 turbo and i have herd that putting a vg30 rear housing on it is a good small upgrade!!! would this be true and what extra power would i get???

I have personally done 4 of these turbos with all awsome results

there are many ways to do the mod

just bolt on the housing gives u more top end but a bit more lag (but can be regained by porting and matching the manifold).

you can high flow the compressor at the same time keeping the ceramic wheel just increasing the compressor wheel and matching the housing. Have seen 230 to 250 kw out of this type.

or put a steel wheel in a vg30 turbo this is the way to go 270kw plus and will last foreva but is roughly 1500 bux u keep same lag and awsome mid range and top end.

We did quite alot of development on this mod and reducing or eliminating surge which u might get in doing this but it was minimal

P.S. the housing it self is very hard to find usually u will get a complete stuffed vg30 turbo for around $100 if u can find one and u need a ball bearing one the non ball bearing one does not fit, you can tell by looking at the back of the front compressor housing.

So the exhaust housing from a non ball bearing VG30det doesn't fit on the R33 turbo?

im pretty sure the exhaust housing will fit regardless if its non ball bearing or ball bearing not completely sure.Ive only spurced the ball bearing so that if you decide to just use that turbo then you have already bought the correct turbo.

just bolting on the exhaust housing will no be much of an upgrade, slight more lag for little power gain. Depends on your other mods you have done to your car

remember the wheel is still ceramic and any more than 1 bar run for long periods will go bang

On the RB20 the larger op6 turbine housing isn't an upgrade. Yes you net a little more peak but you loose with increased lag + slightly less mid range and a turbo that doesn't come on hard. So its boaring. :)

When I ran the larger OP6 on the rb20 I was extremely dissapointed with the result.

I dropped the stock turbo back on asap.

The result is an rb20 that is slower and boaring on the street. You'll have stock turbo'd rb20det's @ 1bar whooping your ass until mid way through fourth gear, not really suitable for the street. :)

On the Rb30DET; the larger OP6 is an excellent mod for one who wishes to stick with the stock turbo. I picked up a considerable amount of mid and top end; power extended 500rpm and held power once peak was made much better. On the 3ltr it made its full boost ~200rpm later than the stock turbo; on the rb20 I was seeing full boost a full 600rpm later.

Rb25 or RB30; great upgrade as the motors can do with a little more turbine flow.

For the RB20... A stock turbo tuned up nicely will net 170-175rwkw with a meaty mid range or bolt on an rb25det turbo for 190-195rwkw. Both running 14-15psi. Following that bang for buck the Slide highflow is well proven and reliable or a good s/h HKS2530. Then start looking at the trust td06-20g for 250kw+.
