I have a highflowed RB25 comp housing with a highflowed 0P6 ex housing.

It has a new Garrett cartridge, shaft and wheels

What Garrett turbo would this compare with.

It was built by Precision Turbos and is rated at 550hp.

here is the difference between the stock ex housing and the 0P6 one.post-32255-1179911608_thumb.jpg

If they claim its a genuine 550hp

it'll be interesting to see if it gets on the surge train like a few other 550hp hi-flows have before (GCG and others)

Being the wheels are just too big for the rear they become unhappy.

You'll notice the surge regardless of what boost as it will be most prominent in transient response in the lower RPM range where peak boost isnt a factor.

Thats not to say it will of course.

Stick up the wheel specs like Risking said and we can maybe look from there.

Obviously its a T04S wheel by the blades, just what size is the question

Also what size the rear is aswell

ps. i see adrian posting, he knows the most :domokun:

mongrel turbos suffer surge and alot of the early GCG high flows do.

Do you know the actual wheels sizes?? with thme it can easily be matched up with the garrett items

I dont have any specs on the wheels Brad.

Im kicking myself for not getting that info.

My guess is at minimum a GT2876

And max a GT3040

without knowing the inducer and exducer sizes its next to impossible to say. Its depends soely on those sizes.

Bring it around and ill rip the housings off and measure it up.

Like nismoid said its some form of t04S comp wheel so possibly a 52 trim front. I had a bit of info on the common R33 highflows and wheel selecetions somewhere but I cant find it atm.

A quick call to the guys that did it and they should be able to give you wheel part numbers at least even if they dont know the actual dimenssions.

Well the cartridge section appears to be a Garrett ball bearing GT30/T04S but someones machined out the VG30 BB turbine housing and R33 Skylines Hitachi compressor cover to fit .

I don't think Garrett would use those wheels in housings not designed for them so not too sure . The current GCG Hi Flow uses a smaller 7/14 blade compressor with a slightly larger turbine of a different family to the GT30UHP . I don't think I ever saw the higher capacity GCG Hi Flow but if anyone has a pic of one looking at the compressor I'd like to see it .

As to if it will surge ? The only way to know is to try it .

Had it been me I reckon I'd have used the GT2871R 48T BB cartridge like I think Dale FZ1 did because its wheels are a lot closer in size to what the Hitachi housings were designed to work with .

Cheers A .

The cartridge is ball bearing and both housings where machined to the max i think.

Already i can see there must be a few specs of highflows out there.i hope this one isnt a lag monster.

The way to confirm easily is to read the numbers on the ID tag attached to the centre section. If you can, post them up please.

I'm aware of a GT2876 BB cored high flow, using the OP6 housing that performed without surge problems and supported around 250rwkW. Be interested to see if this unit is the same specs.

The difference in that approach to my 2871 48T was in the turbine, with lower gas velocity the compressor was not evidently enough to cause surge issues.

The numbers i got are:

Garrett

JK 0101 J

700177-5017

Hope this helps

Those numbers are really irrelevant with a high flow. you cant be sure of whats in there unless you measure it and check for yourself. Ive seen tagged turbos done by very reputable places that were tagged wrong etc.

I dont think its that large. Ive fitted R33 highflows where the comp housing snout was so thin I was worried about the weight of the clamp crushing the snout!

Personally im not a fan of any high flow turbo unless you have it built a specific spec. For the cost of 3037's etc these days I go with something I can view a comp map of first. Personaly preferance though.

At the end of the day you have had it done so wack it on and find out what its like.

I was told by Precision to be careful with the clamp as exteme force will break it.

Thats just the cartride, generally you wont know what wheels from that.

CHRA = 700177-5017

CHRA = Centre Housing Rotating Assembly

As Risking said, some other wheels could have been slapped on there and you wouldnt even realise.

Ive seen similar things happen myself where the ID tag lists one thing.

But other wheels were substituted and stuck on a different CHRA.

    • It is a kunfine Android screen . Does anyone know the wirering diagram of the fuga ??
    • just an update to this, poor man pays twice  Tried sanding down the pulleys but it didnt do the trick. Chucked another second hand alternator in the na car which I got for free off my mate and its fixed the squelling. Must have been unlucky with the bearings.    As for my turbo car, I managed to pick up a cwc rb alternator conversion bracket + LS alternator for 250 off marketplace, looked to be in really good nick. Installed it , started the car and its not charging the battery.... ( Im not good with auto elec stuff so im not sure if this was all I needed to do but I verified such by using a multimeter on the battery when the engine was running and I was only getting 12.2v )   I had to modify the earth strap for the new LS alternator , factory earth strap was a 10mm bolt which did not fit the bolt on the LS alternator which was double the size so I cut it off , went to repco bought some ring terminals that fit, crimped it onto the old earth strap and bolted it up to the alternator , started the car and same issue. Ran like shit and was reading 12.2 at the battery.  For a "plug and play" advertised kit thats not very plug and play but alas.  My question is , am I missing something ? Ive been reading that some people recommend upgrading the stock 80 amp alternator fuse to a 140 amp but I dont see how that would stop the alternator charging especially at idle not under load.  Regardless ive pulled it out and am going to get it bench tested by an auto elec tomorrow but it would be handy to know if ive missed something silly or have done something wrong.
    • My wild guess is that you have popped off an intake pipe....check all of the hoses between the turbo and the throttle for splits or loose clamps.
    • Awesome, thanks for sharing!
    • To provide more specific help, more information is needed. What Android screen? What is its wiring diagram? Does the car's wiring have power at any required BAT and ACC wires, and is the loom's earth good?
