Well as some of you know I had problems with my car losing power then kicking back in all of a sudden. First we thought electrical, but the mechanis said no, then the fuel filter...but apparently not.

Complete auto here in Whyalla is where i took it. They serviced my car, changed alot of piping and some other random junk. Costing around 700. They rekon they fixed the problem with what they did.......but they didnt. Now the rekon it could be the knock sensors i think they said, anyways they said theres two of them in my car. And they want to charge 1grand EACH!!! Lucky for me it was dad who has been paying everything.

Anyways dad's taking it into adelaide this weekend so hopefully somewhere there can help with the problem. Is 2 grand too much? AM i getting ripped?

Thanx >_<

i think you're being taken for a run. sounds like they have no idea what they're looking for and simply changing whatever they think needs to be replaced.

diagnose your problem at a reputable mechanic - do it first time, do it right.

FAAARRRHHHKKKK

for that sort of money, take it to an RB specialist tuner

much cheaper :/

and um, i was under the impression Non-turbo's didnt have knock sensors???

Howdy, this was a while ago but incase you check back here, where did you end up taking it in adelaide and how did it go? I'm in adelaide looking for somewhere to go for an N/A R33 service and some brake pads/gearbox work.. but all I have at the moment is a few places I know to avoid, nowhere recommended.

Seems either you go to a regular garage who is cheap but has no idea about skylines and cocks it up, or you go to a specialist garage who charges like you've got bottomless pockets and doesn't necessarily do the job any better unless you happen to know them.

There is a genuine nissan garage near my place but they quoted nearly $500 just to replace the front & rear brake pads. :D

With genuine nissan pads no doubt, i'm more keen on something aftermarket thats decent and reliable and costs alot less.

Any suggestions? must be some SA ppl here with some idea's..

Cheers

    • Yea - I mean I've seen my fuel pump which is decades old and uh, while I'm not saying this with real knowledge... but I sure get the ick at using anything in the fuel system that produced the state of that pump. Many years ago I went through multiple pumps (and strainers) before I dropped the tank to clean it out with extreme violence. I'm talking the car would do maybe 50km before coming to a halt, which resulted in me cleaning out the filter with some brake cleaner and going on my way. None of my stuff ever looked like what came out of your fuel tank. I don't think I'd be happy with it unless every single component was replaced (or at least checked/cleaned/confirmed to be clean here).
    • I'm not going to recommend an EBC pad. I don't like them. Just about anything else would suit me better. I've been using Intima pads for a while now.
    • Agreed, and in particular the earth strap that should go from the subframe to the chassis but it often broken or left off. There is a section in the R32 workshop manual you can follow for troubleshooting if you don't see anything suspicious, and depending where you are (there is no location on your user profile) you should be able to get your hands on a second hand replacement unit still if needed
    • Yeah they mention as a R34 for 2.5 Turbo...but then again thos "small" were also for R34 by that different site. But i look into it and that 310mm EBC is for R34 GTT. And by those you linked the specs are the same 🙂    EDIT: I found these on one site here: DBA 4000 series T3 DBA42304S They are 310mm...and it says are for R34GTT...are there good? EDIT2: ok they have pads too.  What "color" should i get for street use? I dont want/need some noisy ones...(and if they are not that dusty that is good too)
    • Yeah, shame. Maybe  driver's carpet is available 🙏. I am waiting for both amayama and nangun to confirm.
