PHAT 33, do you know what you are talking about or just spreading garbage information you heard.

1.)Regency never touches a car with a tool, let alone a welder. They just write it down and request it to be changed.

2.)They check for everything from your front windscreen defogger air is working to torn cv boots.

3.)Adjustable suspension is alowed as long as its not leaking and in a good condition (like everything else) and the second ring is locked in.

I understand you may not know alot about defects and regency. From what I have read in previous post from you, it seems you and your c.club are well known for "STREET LEGAL" vehicles.

Are the cops similarly tight in Sydney? I'm worried as the cops are catching up on us in Hong Kong. My plan was to ship the cars home as soon as they get defected. Now it seems like there's no where to hide. Just last week, my car got defected because the letters on my number plate are placed too close together. That by itself is easy to fix but the Gestopos might yet issue me a notice to have the car examined... fxxx!

BOV that are non standard are NOT legal.

Since im already posting, some examples of LEGAL items:

1.)Front mount Intercoolers

2.)Air filters(clean) with airflow meter.

3.)Exhaust even HKS Hipers (must be quiet... so put a plate in)

4.)Any size wheels from 17 to 20 inch even. As long as the track and load rating is correct.. tyres with thread ofcorse!

FYI; they can tell you have removed the insides of the cat converter by touching it. If it has been modified internally, it will be cooler than the rest of the exhaust. It should be the warmest part!

Tinting is not allowed, even on the back because as the rules states "tinting on tinted glass is ILLEGAL". Most late model cars have slight ting on the glass.

Hope this helps.

Tinting is allowed providing the final transperency on the front two windows (rears and rear window are ok tinted) is I think 75%, I'm not exactly sure on the exact numbers. Basically the transperency that is legal looks like you haven't got tint applied anyhow.

nah it's 70% dude ... my MX6 went through Regency mid last year and they have a device they slip over the window and it gives a reading of blockout. When mine went in the reading said 32 ... ie 32% blockout, which is 2% over maximum. They made me pull of the tinting THERE AND THEN (wouldn't let me leave until it was off - they gave me a razor blade scraper to do it) .... but only the side 2 windows, the rear quarter window and rear screen can be up to 65% blockout, so they were ok.

I had instant windscreens (i'm sure it was them i'll have to check me receipt if anyone wants me to) do mine and am actually quite happy with it.

$270 for all windows.

What is good about it is that it comes with a lifetime warranty and at night the interior dash etc doesn't reflect off the drivers window. My old VS Commodore used to have slightly lighter tint but that used to reflect everything in the car and made it difficult to see out at night.

GOOD LUCK Enrico hope everything goes well just didnt want the same thing happening to you sorry if the information is incorrect.

:P

Fair Comment PHAT 33,

however my friends had 2 passes with his suspension and I personally had mine passed. My second ring however was not locked in. Inspector told me to lock it up tight because he was not happy with it. Im guessing your friends did not have the second ring and thus they got him to get it welded maybe. The likely hood of them pulling out the welder and physically welding it is not possible.

Regarding the tinting, look its a grey area IF your car has no tint on the glass. Believe it or not, modern cars have a very very slight tint on it. The rears they MAY let you go past IF it looks very very light. (35% blockout max). I know the fronts are a definate NO GO with the inspectors regarless of how light its tinted...

ROB:

Vented ones are definately NO due "excessive noise" but more so for "emissions reasons". If you have one that vents back, if will depend on the inspector... hell, even had inspectors trying to deffect the bonnet scoop on WRX's until they were told by the driver and other inspectors its standard!!!!!!!!

HIPPY:

Its fine, dont think your rude at all.... If the police pulls you over, they dont have to say why or prove that the defect is legit. They can defect on provision that they BELIEVE that it is unroadworthy. You cant argue unless the cop is willing to listen. Only thing they have facts on are the ride height of all vehicles which they carry.

If you need to find out more, ring TRANSPORT SA at Regency and ask for the vehicle compliance section.

Lastly if the cop pulls you over, it doesnt matter if they defect you for your turbo timer only or 50 items more.... if it says VEHICLE INSPECTION STATION.. its a pain!!!

Hey guys, i went past the police station today. They checked that all the work had been done, and signed it off. Now ive been booked in at regency next week. So from now till then, all i gotta do is take of my strut brace, and replace my HKS airfilter and BOV with original items. Anyone wanna lend me em?

Also in regards to exhausts, i have a loud 3 inch trust exhaust, which i might put a resticor plate in to quite it down. When they check the exhaust, is it only to do with Db level, or do they check emissions, cos i dont have a cat in my car i think.

My tiens are sky high now and it looks like a 4wd. My 17s have new tyres so they cant pick anythin with me. I should get through ok i think.

Cya

I just remembered too that the tinting on my MX6, which I had done in Darwin, had no logo on it ie. if you look closely, all windows, tinted or not, have the strength of tinting stamped/printed on them. The guy at Regency said since my MX6 tint had no blockout sticker advice my tint was illegal even if his tester said it was ok. So make sure wherever enyone goes for tinting that they put a sticker in the tint specifying blockout.

They can fully tell if your cat has had the stuffing knocked out of it too - the cat will be much cooler than the exhaust, whereas on normal cats it is far hotter than the rest of the exhaust.

Pleaaaaase dont remind me about regency. nightmare

to pass my windows ALLLL the tint had to come off. (even factory) and to get my exhaust through I had to stuff a shitheap of steel wool in there and make metal plates at intervals through the pipe . Not to mention all the other parts that had to come off which basically left it a rolling shell... They obviously are not too bright. How can a 4 inch exhaust make 40 db ? I'll show ya! I then took a day off work and waited 6.5 hours while they had the nerve to tell me to hurry up.

Regency change the rules practically every week so I would not be too fussed about it guys.

    • I'm normally copping my own abuse from neglecting my daily drivers. "Those suspension bushes will last a bit more", "Don't worry about the oil leak, just keep topping it up". The project cars I'm always doing things slowly on them as I'm wanting them to be done better, and neater, and nicer. Luckily I don't have to deal with 18 year old Matt's "Learning to wire" stuff in the project cars. And there's only one piece of wiring I'm displeased about in the Landcruiser, and it's about to be cut out... However, the box loads of parts that have been going through this place lately for the Landcruiser... Brake pads Brake Rotors Full handbrake overhaul Wheel Bearings Seals Swivel hubs Steering Boxes Half the suspension joints Shocks Air bags (Ones to go in the rear springs for towing) Water pump Timing kit Lower timing case Harmonic Balancer Radiator Lots of other little seals and shits Gas struts for the bonnet New power window switches And god knows what else I've forgotten... Ha ha ha I have my fingers crossed the pinion seals don't start leaking on the diffs, that the transfer case doesn't leak, and the gearbox input shaft doesn't leak, nor the rear main seal. As they're about the only seals I haven't replaced in the driveline! I'm seriously eyeing off buying new caliper rebuild kits front and rear brake calipers... I'll probably recheck all the valve clearances soon too, and hopefully, it should be all good and sweet to haul some long distance trips again!
    • Every time I pull my 3x gauges out of the console and see the crack-addict way that I did the wiring, and I just can't bring myself to tear it all apart and "make it nice", because it is currently working. In fact, the last time I was in there I probably made it worse.
    • The best part is when you own the car long enough that you look back and find your OWN ham fisted amateur shit!
    • The annoying part about neglect, is when you start to replace one thing, and find ten more broken things. Ham fisted monkey repairs you normally only find out about when trying to do something unrelated! Ha ha   Neglect you can kind of anticipate the huge costs to fix it all. Ham fistedness is normally a shock the first time your work on a new old car, as everything "looked" good before.
