Hey guys,

Just a quick question for all you Forced Induction Fans out there............! I recently had a rb25 highflow turbo mounted from sliding performance and i was wonder what is meant by the stages used to describe this turbo and others?

Stage 1

Stage 2

Stage 3

I was once told that the "stages" in general can be described something like this:

Stage 1: "not bad..."

Stage 2: "scarey"

Satge 3: "ahhh! f**k me were all going to die!"

I don't think there is a actual classification for each and there could also be more than 3, normally sellers/shops/workshops just use them as a classification for the level of modification, ie, stage one basic mods to stage whatever heaps of mods....

Instead of starting a whole new thread on highflows (sorry to hijack) I was just after peoples opinions on the following:

Ive just bought a Walbro fuel pump and Apexi S-AFC II and hope to buy an FMIC kit in the next couple of days. My understanding is that the SAFC can't really handle any sort of injector upgrade.

Anyway I am sorely tempted into buying a Slide High Flowed RB25 turbo. My question is, how much gains would I see from the highflow given that I can't really up my injectors. Would probably run the highflow at around 1bar. What sort of power would I be looking at? (Already have POD, boost controller and 3" turbo back zorst)

Like if im going to get around 190-200rwkw with the pump, fmic, safc and stock turbo would it be pushing the injectors too much to be hopeing for 230-250rwkw with the slide highflow?

pretty sure i mentioned this in your other thread, but yes, thats hoping for much to much. stock injectors are good for 230rwkw AT THE MOST.. and thats running a very high duty cycle (not recommended). Not to mention, the lack of timing adjustment and proper fuel adjustment will probably make it very difficult to reach that figure in the first place.. if you did, it would be a bad power curve ....

once you highflow, your gonna need an ECU to run it properly..

Hey lach,

I would say that SAFC, fuel pump, and FMIC probably won't make 190kws but thats just an estimation. I have a gts4-t with a walbro fuel pump, FMIC, stock injectors, stage 2 highflow from sliding performance, fuel pressure reg, ecu remap from mercury motorsport, splitfire coilpacks, K&N pod, and 3inch exhaust. i am 160 at all wheels on 16 psi which is just over 1 bar. its an rb20det

Stock turbo, splitfiers and supporting mods, 15psi, yeah i know it will die eventually, central 20 ecu and a SAFCII, made 217 rwKw.

i am hoping with a slide VG30 max overbore, with 50psi fuel pressure to and stock onjecotrs to get close to 250.

    • Will have a look at that. I cant see any leaks
    • Put another overflow bottle (ie, a 1.25 coke bottle or similar) under the overflow hose and see if it is being pushed out there or if it is disappearing into the engine.
    • Staring on a stand is no issue. You just have to wire everything up, give it fuel and cross your fingers that the stand is robust enough. Arranging the inlet plumbing is often the hardest part, without any surrounding structure to hand some of it from. No need for coolant if you only want to run it for <1 minute. As to the gearbox - I think the little Aisin box is a bit stronger than the other small Nissan boxes that went behind SRs, but I wouldn't be too keen to test its limits with the torque of a boosted 25. I don't know if you can retain the box and the tailshaft. The box won't connect to the RB without an adapter of some sort, which is either a plate that will push the engine forward (which is not good for fitting it into the bay's available space) or push the box back, which messes with the box position and tailshaft length - OR - cut and shut work on the bellhousing, which is a long way from "least modification". I'd be buying a new 370Z 6 speed or similar, doing what has to be done to that to make it fit RB (ie, cut and shut bellhousing) and the requisite tailshaft custom/mods.
    • Hi Everyone I am from West Pennant Hills in NSW. Been too busy until recently to attend to my RB25DET Series 2 engine until recently. I am planning to stick it into the S15 shell at this stage, unless a nice SR20DET turns up... For now, i am going to try and get the RB25 running and working well then decide what gearbox to use. My preference is to retain the SR20DET  6 speed gearbox and tail shaft to retain as much and least modifications as i can avoid. I am an old guy and won't be doing any heavy drifting so i don't need a bullet proof gearbox Does anyone have experience with starting the RB on a stand? I got everything setup as much as I can with the info i can find... endless searching and videos on Youtube I would be great to get some pointers Cheers Songo
    • Hey all, Recently have had my s1 r33 gtr serviced and noticed my coolant reservoir was topped up to the max line. Took the car out for 1 yesterday and noticed today the reservoir is completely empty.  Any ideas? Radiator is full
