Some people are pretty condescending with replies hey mate.

Usually a good idea to go to a well reputed tuner i think. There are a few threads around with local tuners and opinions. Personally i'll be going to unigroup cause i've heard nothing but praise about them regarding their tuning.

Well just wanted a bit more informative feedback instead the tune was too rich.

They seem to be respected on the silvia forums. But yeah Unigroup do seem to have pretty good feedback

Ricol do abit of my mechanical side of things on my car. Ive always experienced execellent service on that part and Col always helps me out on that side of things.

As for tuning, they did a good job, but having previous tunes from Unigroup in the pass, I know where they stand. Tune was too rich, meaning there was too much fuel going in and not getting burnt. What was happening, is that the fuel was mixing with the oil and degrading it pretty fast. Oil was going black in 3,000km's and was fowling plugs. Tune was safe and never saw knock more than 17 on the PFC and powerband was good but came on abit later considering the car has had cams.

Unigroup:

Took my car to Yavuz to sort out as he specialises in tuning, where as Ricol is a company that specialises in a few things, ie focusing resources in different areas rather than one. Yavuz has always been my choice of tuner, and has tuned 3 of my cars ive owned now. I downgraded my turbo, and yavuz spent his 3 days with my car, making sure its streetable and safe to run on street. There were a few things which we couldnt figure out and he was happy for me to get those problems attended to and bring the car back for him to play around with the PFC.

The tune is no where near as rich as what ricol had it at. The car now doesnt smell like fuel pooring out of it, hehe. Fuel economy is about the same simply cause im on boost alot more now as i downgraded the turbo back to standard. I took my car back to yavuz, and we put it on the dyno to make sure everything was running fine as there were a few queries I had regarding the tune.

Service is second to none from unigroup. I had my car down at wakefield 3 weeks ago and the car was constantly revving between 5,000 - 6,500rpm most of the day + driving on the freeway there and back. The car ran flawless and had no dramas. Highest knock recording from the day was 23.

Mods inc: pfc, injectors, z32afm, cold air box, pod filter, full turbo back exhaust, GFB stealth fx bov, standard turbo, HKS Stage 1 camshaft & 16psi of boost (S15)

The car is my daily driver and is great to drive on street with the current powerband. Go have a chat to Yavuz and see how you go. Id rather get the tune right the first time. As for asking me why i got my car tuned at ricol, I had my motor built by ricol and they did a fantastic job in a small amount of time with a price tag thats comfortable to live with. I needed the car tuned to drive it round over the holidays, so got him to do a full tune to see what its like. He always helped when I went back to get touch ups here and there for things ive noticed,.

However comparing Unigroup to Ricol, id still leave the tuning to the expert :D

Never used them for a tune but dont regard their work too highly anyway, had my Silvia converted to manual their and it was very bodgy, wrong sized bolts used etc, gearbox constantly grinded, they said the grinding was because I cant change gears even though when they test drove it it grinded constantly, anyway the motor in the Silvia blew a while later and when the motor was pulled out the mechanic discovered they didnt even put a thrust bearing on the gearbox thats why the gear changing was so horrible.

i got some work done there as well dont recomend them either i took my car there cause it was idlen high n every time i pikd it up it was still doing d same thing i spent heaps of money there n they still didnt sort d problem out.n then i took it 2 dart automotive the first time i took it 2 dart they fixd it first go. Go 2 dart automotive there really gud i take my car there now n highly recomend them.

Man i would reccommend V E Rogoli @ Unit 9 442 Victoria street Wetherill Park. He is very good on the dyno does alot of the evos,He also gets alot of peoples cars to tune which have fail emmisions.

  • 3 weeks later...

when i went ther i asked how much to get a wolf 3d v3 installed + a tune..

$800

also asked how much to build a RB30DE usuing my 25head and a 30 block id supply for them to do all the work it was $2000 i think ther prices are pretty steap but they had some really nice cars in there so they might be okay too ??

    • Seat of the pants assessment of the new intake: The car is way less "doughy" when hitting the loud pedal, especially off idle when stopped or in traffic, I did use a cheapo lazer thermal thingo to measure the temp around where the pod filter got its air, it was between 55 - 60°C, in saying this the car was shut off and not moving, so the OEM intake pipe was not supplying any fresh air to where the pod was when the car was at least moving A weird bonus was induction noise on the throttle in the cabin increased a bit,  I was worried that I was actually going to lose some of that induction noise I love so much, outside though, when I got the daughter to do a WOT drive by pass for me, the induction noise has increased alot when on the throttle, not quite ITB doort, but well up there I'm extremely happy with the results and have been exploring the country roads in the region  As for house mods: 1.New front fence is up and is awesome, it really upgraded how the joint looks from the street, and the added security is nice 2. Electricians have replace some interior lights, and with more lighting in the garage, a few new motion detecting lights out the front above the garage, front room, and at the front door, which I have already found heaps helpful coming and going, also now has fancy pants CCTV all round the house The only hold point for power though is the solar and batteries due to supply issues, although this will happen over the next few weeks 3. I have done a heap of landscaping out the front and I'm almost ready to do a new small retaining wall with some nice blocks to replace the brick and cemented in rocks around the raised garden beds cemented in river stone "was the fashion at the time" the house was built. I currently have a pallet of retaining wall blocks and 2 bulka bags of 20mm blue metal to replace the wood chip that is in the raised garden beds around the house 4. I now have 3 big raised garden beds for out the back to grow some vegetables, about 70cm high, 200cm long and 100cm wide 5. My 2 compost bins are already pretty full with brown, green and kitchen waste from the landscaping I'vedone so far, but they will probably take a few months to break down, so anything else that gets chopped, trimmed, and kitchen waste will just start filling the base of the raised garden beds to about 30cm before I start throwing 40cm of good compost, and stuff, for the vegetables to grow in, I'll need a few ton of compost and soil, but the local supplier can sent me bulka bags of the stuff Basically the logs, wood chips and a few strategically placed rocks for drainage, will give the beds some good organic materials down low to break down over time, and they will hold moisture during the warmer months to save the water in my big arse water tank if we don't get alot of rain So, all in all, the car and house mods are going well, and I'm really enjoying being retired, I sleep in too 0700 and slowly plod around inside until I feel like actually doing anything, and only work in the yard for as long as want, which has actually been alot over the last few weeks,  although when you look at it, it seems that not a huge amount of work has been done,  until I look at the before I started the work pics Happy days and good times indeed
    • hahaha yeah. Plan is to get side skirts and probably just rear pods. But going to do them one-by-one. I've got a set that I really like from RHDJapen, but that one isn't shipped to AU. So need to find someone who can get it for me
    • Here's an idea, answer the questions I asked you as they are trying to work out WHY the LSD will be binding up in a straight line.
    • You haven't driven many modern cars then have you? Most of them have sfa steering feel with their stupid electric bullshit steering systems.
