Remember GCG slap together excellent turbo's.

They are an exception as with a few other places around i.e Vince.

However in adelaide we have the local turbo specialist who is on Marion road. They built a highflowed BB turbo that made full boost by 4000rpm on a RB20DET but needed 18psi to make 200rwkw then it maxed out. You could run more boost but you wouldn't make anymore power due to timing being pulled.

Then there's Dynamic turbo charger services who are also supposed to be very good. They highflowed a mate of mines RB20DET Turbo and he only made 140rwkw on 16psi.. WTF is going on there..

So don't just go to anyone to get your 'Highflowed' turbo.

Either get one from GCG and be happy or I have also been impressed with a Turbo Vince had put together for whatsisname that made 257rwkw on 13psi.

It is still very hard to beat a GT2530 for performance when it comes to lag but the GCG is right behind it.

Roy.. You hit the nail on the head.

S of S.. Remeber that RB20DET owner here that ran a stage 2 compressor in his turbo? Apparently it was surging like hell and had to have a Stage 1 compressor fitted.

Is that caused by the highflow using the smaller exhaust housing of the RB20DET? Hence the turbo was over compressed.

HKS 2530, try here: http://www.skylinesaustralia.com/forums/sh...5274#post365274

Start form about 2.4k with wastegate and gasket - and you can sell your old turbo for a couple hundy back. Be very careful with second hand HKS turbos - make sure they are tested and ok - I heard from a someone I consider VERY reliable, that a major importer of second hand turbos here in aust - only one in ten are ok - rest are on their last legs. If you have to rebuild, the whole cartridge must be replace, therefore its more expensive in the long run.

RB20 DET has only 8.5: c/r - so should be fine to boost to 1.2 bar all day every day (yes I have seen it done) with a decent cooler. As with any car make sure your fuel pressure doesnt drop, injectors all flowing ok etc.

Another 0.02

At this rate, all these 2c are going to start adding up

I have had a bad run with second hand turbo's my self.. 3 duds one after another. So for me its not an option.

I was considering a GT30 500hp turbo for the 3ltr but it turns out i have to frig around with waste gates etc.. I can get a custom gt30 with an integral wastegate and smaller housing so that it bolts traight on to the standard manifold but that price blows out close to 3k so i am once again back to the GCG Stage 2 turbo.

Realistically if i start hitting 300rwkw its going to blow the whole budget out the window with regards to internals, drive line suspension everything.

It should make 260rwkw on a 3ltr no probs. What are your experiences or what have you seen with this stage 2 - S of S on a RB30DET?

i asked an a midas exhaust place about 3.5 and he said that he didnt know of any places that had 3.5 mandrel bender. only place he thought would be a truck exhaust place. but hell, then you could go for 4 or 5 inch.

if you can find a 3.5 inch, you may as well buy it.

point is that its farking stupid driving around with anything bigger than a 3.5 inch exhaust!! + u would need ear muffs in the car from the drouning sound it would make

    • You're going to miss not worrying about rust in the strut towers like the Skyline shitboxes out there
    • A few little updates that weren't filmed due to not taking long to do or not interesting enough for their own video. My new K&N Air Filter arrived, I went with an RU-4180 which matched the dimensions of the universal cone filter the car originally had.  The battery had gone flat, while that was charging I tidied up the spaghetti wiring at the bulk head and down the sides of the engine Next job was to swap the stereo The Kenwood harness had the female ISO plugs cut off and the male ISO plugs cut off the adaptor loom and joined with bullet connectors. I ordered in a repair loom through work and re-did it all. New Kenwood unit installed (Android Auto, DAB, Bluetooth, Reverse Camera) The bonnet/hood gas struts have been poor since collecting the car. I couldn't find any suitable replacements locally so took a chance on a pair from AliExpress.  The originals don't use a retaining clip to secure the cup onto the ball fixture, would explain why I struggled for 10-15mins trying to pry off the cups. The ball fixtures unscrew using a 12mm spanner, new ones are the same size. Sadly no photo of them fitted, you're not missing much lol The dished Momo steering wheel got replaced with my Momo Tuner, turns out I ordered counter sunk bolts for the horn trim ring (like they normally are for the steering wheel) instead of allen cap (flat seat)  A terrible photo of a Quaife style gear shift knob I've had stashed in my tool box for many years after purchasing the incorrect thread size (I can see a pattern emerging with ordering incorrect parts...) Also threw in a cup holder and a (empty) Boss Coffee can, because why not
    • GT-R clearly the better choice! The 300 is certainly not insaly fast but has a decent amount of poke. Does a nice little drift around the corners with a decent amount of throttle. It's VERY predictable in a slide too.  Feels so progressive! People probably presume there's a 25 year old driving it based on my behaviour this week! 🤣
    • Yeah Jap import. Fairlady Z then! I'm a bit the same.  They've been on my radar for a fair while but then just impulsively decided to buy one!  Was going to just buy an NA and add turbos to it later but decided to save the f'ing around and just buy the turbo version.
    • Thanks mate, well done to you too! Yeah not looking forward to doing any major work to it!
