Hay guys!..

I hope this is the right section to post this in!

I have a 4dr GTS4 R32 and it feels kinda.. well.. FAT.

Question is.. What gains are to be made by stripping? And stripping what?

I noticed the bonnet is freaking heavy! Anyone know the weight? OR what the the weight of a Carbon FIber bonnet? How much am I saving?

That stupid front lip that slides down (what is the freaking point of it!?! Can you even put it down whilst drving? How?) How much weight do i save by ripping it out with the driving motor and going aftermarket front lip?

Aftermarket fiberglass front guards.. worth the weight saving?

Rear Seats? Weight?

Does anyone have drag/circuite times/weights of items or stripped and un stripped cars to compair?

If no one has any solid info.. I may do a write up.. Drag times while porky.. and after being anorexic. Kg. of each item etc. Would anyone be interested?

Cheers in advance..

Cris..

think you save about 100kg by stripping out EVERYTHING, seats, aircon, carpet, fuzzy lining, sound deadeners, dash board, all plastic in the car etc etc

then you are left with a slightly lighter car which is rather unbearable to drive

all that for nothing..................$0!!!!!!

second approach is to spend $$$$ on carbon fibre bonnect, fenders, doors, bootlids, cf door trim, front bars, rear bars.........All up probably $10,000 worth of carbon fibre parts. Then take out all the windows and replace them with plastic.

This approach will kill your wallet in no time but makes the car so much lighter.

or you can combine the two by stripping it out AND replacing the outside panel only with CF, obnoxiouly loud, no creature comfrot but very very light.

LOL!.. i was thinking more along the lines of:

CF Bonnet

FG Quarters

New bar

Take out the rear seat

Other random things I dont need..

I may do a write up about weight saving..

Although.. Id rather spend 10K on engine mods..

optimistically, save around 15kg in bonnet, 10kg seats, 5kg for panels, maybe take out the HICAS for another 5kg-10mg diet, take out ABS for another 5kg

but then if you go get yourself some large shiny rims, that'll just add more weight. I'd go for CF bonnet, take out rear seats and lightweight wheels.

Take out ABS and HICAS if you can be stuffed.

Umn, just wondering if you have completely changed your suspension and stiffened the chassis? because if you have stock 32 sus/shocks and lack of bracing then it's not the weight that's making it feel fat...

Address if you have not allready, them issues. ie- coilovers, struts, sways and then start thinking about changing panels to save a few kg's here and there.

32 gtst are light compared to 33 and 34's obv and i can guarantee there is plenty of 33/34's you could drive that would feel allot sharper and lighter but are actually a fair bit heavier than your car.

something to think about!

Cheers.

Good point..

I got coilovers.. and front strut bar.. and rear sway bar..

But its not a GTS ot GTS-T.. Its a GTS4 AND a 4 Door..

..the price you pay for being unique..

I just may do a write up in the next comming weeks when I collect all the parts at once..

    • Seems like a decent result for a modded JZX110. They are bulky in comparison to the 100 and 90 models (which I'd prefer myself) but they are getting very few and far between here in JP these days. Thanks for the detailed review and the import process into the UK. I also have a car which I'm hoping to export from Japan at some stage so it's good to know if someone from the UK was interested in it. By the way the corrosion underneath is par for the course for cars which were located in/near the mountains or along the Japan sea coastline. They get huge amounts of snow every winter and the sodium chloride is used on the roads. Many cars have some kind of rubber like treatment underneath but they tend to limit it to the wheel arches underbody and fuel tank. Suspension arms and sub-frames will have similar corrosion to your JZX110 which is a common sight. See it all the time and car dealers here generally don't even mention it unless asked.
    • If the sound goes away when you clutch in, the 1.5/2 way diffs are just shit, and you are a normal person. The diff is likely "fine" but driving at anything under 30kmh is a violent horrible experience. It would be exaggerated with solid diff bushings and subframe bushings if you have those.
