Hi Guys

Been browsing and reading for the last couple of months on things to do to my stock R33 and I think I'm nearly finished and prepared to start spending.

I however did want to get some approval on my plans or some negative feedback if I'm heading down the wrong path.

My goals at the present time are around the 280-300rwkw area as i would like to leave the internals alone at the moment.

The parts I've purchased so far are Apexi PFC, Z32 AFM, HKS Type S FMIC and I'm booked in to drop a manual box in in the next couple of weeks.

The other parts that I was looking at and need advice on are:

  • Turbo - 3037 with the external wastegate, I was looking at a .73 A/R as it will be a street driven car and from the information I've read this would be a compromise between peak power and spool up time?? Correct me if I'm wrong with any assumptions i make in this thread >_< . Now the trim i would love someone to give me their choice and reason.
  • Manifold - High mount Extreme Turbo Manifold and I think this includes the single dump??
  • Wastegate - Was looking at the HKS GTII 50mm. Good brand, small in size and looks pretty :D yay, nay?
  • Injectors - Either NISMO or HKS 550cc. I can't see there being a problem in either of those brands?
  • Fuel pump - Tomei kit. Heard these are a treat of a pump and won't fail on me.
  • Boost controller - Apexi AVC-R. Don't think I'll have any objections from this.
  • Splitfire coils
  • Tomei pon cams
  • Exhaust - Need to decide on the manifold before buying this??

If I've forgotten any important part please e-bash me :D

Thank you if you could be bothered reading this... and even bigger thank you for some advice!! :D

I'm surprised you didn't list that you want a front mount intercooler, but you'll need one of these. A JustJap kit should be fine?

Edit: My bad. You did say you've got one ><

nismo injectors are good for your tuner, perhaps consider 740s. talk to the guy you want to tune it.

tomei fuel pump is the easiest possible install and quiet as the stock pump. I just installed one and i'm very happy after having a bosch 040 for a few months.

if you get an apexi avcr, you may as well just get the power fc boost control kit off nengun, they are very similar in performance. i would recomend a blitz unit.

i will leave the rest for everyoine else to fight over >_<

    • I might be way off the mark here.. there must be a T junction under the manifold. That takes manifold pressure through a check valve prior to the T, one side splits out to this bleed off orifice, the other straight to the wastegate actuators.
    • Carrying out some engine due diligence before my first drive in a 260RS that has been in storage for 10+ years, and found two lines that are susposed to be plumbed into the boost control solenoid. One of the lines (the wastegate boost supply line) to actuate the gates, had a bolt in one end blocking it. The other line (main boost signal line) from the very rear of the intake manifold (RB26DETT) and runs up to the boost controller had this pill in the end of it as seen in photos. Other than the obvious (T28 Ceramic turbos might well be cooked)  Can anyone shed any light on if there is any validity at all with this mod, bleeding a constant fixed rate of manifold boost pressure off through this 3mm hole?  Is it deliberate?  Was this a 90s Jap mod done to RB26's? Or has someone just fitted this without any idea of what happens to ceramic T28s if they are not gate controlled?
    • This looks great! Awesome to have the 5 speed with an LSD in this. The Recaro's look like SR2's or SR3's. It's a shame they've been retrimmed as they would have looked sweet in their original colours. I think I'd want my agent to be a little more up front and informative too. I've never imported but I reckon it would make me a little nervous, so the more info the better.
    • Thanks for doing that Duncan! Makes you a good person in my books. We don't get kangaroos or wombats here. But we have bats and it's similar. AFAIK it's often the mums with a baby attached that get hit because they drop lower when starting from a tree. If you hit an animal, check on it. https://www.ifaw.org/au/resources/wildlife-rescue-app An app to get the closest wildlife rescue contact.
