Hello all,

I just got a Monza sports performance pod filter put in my 25GT, i was wondering if it is really necessary to get like a heat shield and all... if i don't, can it really affect my engine? :)

At low-end torque it actually seems/feels/sounds smoother and quieter, and at high-end i get a mad sucking noise lol!

I want to know.. has anyone tried this brand of pod or knows someone that did and their experiences etc.?

Also, does anyone here run a pod without a CAI or heatshield?

ooo and one more question lol, is it ILLEGAL in NSW to have a pod without a heatshield of some sort? or will i get defected? if i do get defected... will i have to pay a fine? if so.. how much?

lol i ask way too many questions, but i'm new to the game so please forgive :)

Thanks all!

P.S. i fully realise i shouldve asked these q's BEFORE getting it in, but MEH, i jus couldn wait :)

hey thanks for the pic missr34 and luke , what do you mean "the lines" ? <I'm not so attuned with the mechanics of cars>

and Missr34 where did u get ur heatshield from and for how much?!

thanks!

is the ones the go from something at the top of the engine to the side of the airbox. what did you guys do with them? just unplugged or put them somewhere.

i circled the bit where they join into on the airbox.

cheers luke

i did dyno runs back to back between, pod vs. pod/heatshield vs. airbox

if you're going to have a pod filter on street car then have a heatshield with a cold air intake - this is especially vital. sitting in traffic and under 60kmph where there's hardly air flow into the engine bay will mean you're just sucking up hot air (which takes up more space than cold air).

i have gone back to the standard airbox... minimal, if any difference between a CAI + pod + heatshield, and the cost factor too.

the money you spend on setting up the pod can be spent on buying a nismo, pipercross, k&n panel filter for cheaper... and you're still ahead

the lines were just tucked away, got it put in through Car Toys so they know what they are doing, cant remember what the heatshield cost thing it was 100 or something???

ive got a proper cold air intake system with it all though

I put in a K&N filter, then trialed a pod. To tell you the truth, i preferred the K7N filter. You can't feel the difference really between the two.

LMFAO at Eug. I sat there trying to get that bug off my screen, but its in ur sig baha.

Well if theres no difference in performance I don't really mind, because now i have a hectic sucking noise when revved high, but I was afraid it may damage my engine in some way due to the fact that it may suck up hot air from the engine :S

to answer your question simply, yes it is illegal

my mat refused to get a cas,got done with 2 point,$140 fine

it has to be fully inclosed cas,and theorectically they can still defect you for that cool new sound you have,as it's louder then your

standard airbox

and again if you dont hava a engineers certificate to say that it is all safe(environmentaly)saving the planet an all

the difference in ambient air temperature with the stock setup and your pod is fine and wont damage you engine at all. Abosulte worst case (and this is if you drive around with 91ron unleaded, in which case you should be shot lol) on a 40 odd degree day your ecu might retard some timing from your engine to reduce knocking(ping), which it does to protect your motor anyways.

All is safe :P

if your going to do it.. CAI..

In my engine,I got a 33 intake.. and the snorkle that take air in from next to the bonnet opening does not mate up to the grooves in under the bonnet..

so atm im just sucking in hot air from next to the exhaust..

hmmm.. should get around to fixing that..

    • Hi...a little refresh. Is Nistune gonna be enough to run BoV? Or do i need some proper ECU?
    • Yep that's pretty much what I want to see. Racecars that look and sound like the Group A but with newer tech underneath to make them faster and safer. I'm sure there's enough VK-to-VN commodore, E30 BMWs and Foxbody mustangs shells around to make up a decent number of cars with hopefully a couple of sierras, rx7 and R31s in there too.
    • Contact Jessestreeter.com/Skevas Racing/JustJap for a new r34 rb gearbox or go a cd00# conversion. No point playing with unknown condition gearboxes.
    • Such a shame places like Amaroo Park have been redeveloped, smaller tracks always make for good racing. Cheers for sharing @PranK there's some good Lakeside video's too. Its so hard with older the cars as parts are so rare and everything was made for a particular chassis at that point in time. Even the V8 Supercar Blueprint era cars are all different between each chassis within a team as they learnt things and made improvements. The COTF cars between each Chassis builder is different too especially motor/oil systems/intakes. The Group A stuff is worth so much too especially chassis with good history. The only way to do it would be composite panels and similar engine drivelines to the original cars. Ford sierra running Focus RS driveline, Commodore running a short stroke LS/LT or a Falcon with coyote and a H Pattern dog box. Could use a standard ecu across all models with a Torque Map and DBW for parity which is not even used in Supercars currently. Hell a TCM is almost a full chassis car these days and the suspension is not even close to standard style in the front running cars.
