Thanks to some ford owner, i now have a new rear end on the skyline. :)

He was towing a trailer, and somehow didn't see me stopped in traffic on Springvale Rd last night and went straight through me.

I guess that the damage is not all that bad. The bumper is pretty messed up and popping out at the sides. It has been pushed in enough so that the boot lid is sticking out about 5cm. The lights aren't broken, but their housing now has a gap between it and the panel.

The worst part, he is not insured, but he said that he will pay for it all.

So, now i have to get quotes for it all, and was wondering if anyone knows of any good body shops that will do the work well.

I'm in the SE suburbs, around Glen Waverley.

Thanks

Yep, nark i vouch for those guys

Palm Motors on Center Dandenong Road just after the Moorabbin Airport heading towards Nepean Hwy

Con is the boss, he may be expensive, but will do the job properly

His done a fair amount of work for us through our company

And seeing as your not paying and he run up YOUR ass get the best job for the car

DONT take it to a place that the guy that caused the incident suggested, youll never get the job done properly and have problems later on

I'll have to give these guys a call.

As you said, I'm not paying for it, so I'm happy to go to someone who might cost a bit more, but will do it right the first time. I will just have to make sure that i get a few other quotes around their price.

I agree with what your saying regarding not going to a place he might suggest. For all i know, it could be one of his mates doing the dodgy for him. He is in the wrong, so he will do as i want. I don't want to screw this guy over, but I'm not going to get screwed in the process of being decent.

lol whistla... might go for another midnight run past ur house :D oh wait its 2am already

went down today and yeah they know what they are doing.. hes also got a pair (not all 4) of 18" 350z wheels and tyres which im guessing he wants to offload if anyone wants em :P

will be going back to drop off my 32 (they had a 32, 2x 33s, s14 and a few others in there at the time) to get the GTR front end put on and sprayed... will attach all the parts myself and repair the minor dints then get them to do the rest.

it aint hard dude... judging by the way the bar joins the main body i would assume it has 2 10m bolts/nuts u need to undo inside the boot on each side... im sure u can find the rest with a little rummaging... right hand guard (stock one on mine) has some scratches on it... ones that wont buff out.

Why is it that every ****stick that hits you never has insurance??

I've had about 2 guys hit me over the years, and neither have had insurance. Least my insurance policy has the "we **** them up the ass in court and you still get your car fixed" :P With people like that, they deserve it.

I dropped into that Palms place on Saturday morning. He said that it is going to take a bit of work to get it all fixed. Said that it should cost about $4000, and he'll need my car for about 2 weeks.

But he did really sound like he knows what he is doing, so i figure that i will go back there. I'm just going to go through my insurance company and let them chase him for the money.

I'm now wondering what I'm going to do for 2 weeks without my line. I don't think that I'll be able to handle it.

I might have to steal my mothers car so that i can get around, but that is a dodgy seca. That thing is way too slow for me.

I just called the insurance company and they want me to take it to one of their approved repairers to get a quote from. I just hope that it is high so that i can take it back to Palms and get them to look after it. I don't want someone who knows nothing about skylines to look after it. I might have to shock him with some info about how hard they are to fix.

Any ideas?

    • It was a great, but typical track day, and some VB was ingested at the night time debrief 🤪
    • And so, to round this out, I couldn't be happier to confirm @MBS206 has decided to buy the car. He drove down from sunny QLD with a trailer last week and it is off to its new home today. I'll let Matt confirm on next steps but I understand broadly that the plan is to leave it pretty much as is, and just get some quality wheel time with a nicely balanced car that is pretty much track ready. There are a few a jobs still to be done first but nothing too major and I think its a very smart buy Dinner last night at the Paragon with a round of VBs (mostly) for Neil
    • Well, 50 pages and the end of a chapter for this car. We took it out for a shakedown at Wakie yesterday, and everything went well. There were a couple of niggles: - Oil cooler fitting leak - tightened, cleaned, stopped leaking - Radiator cap overflow fitting was leaking....Mark called it, the overflow fitting was threaded in and not tight....tightened, tested and held pressure - Small oil leak at the rear of the block, probably the turbo oil feed - too hot to get at it comfortably but probably just needs to be nipped up - leak at the driver's side rear brake line where it meets the hardline. Fitting wasn't loose, so Matt backed it off and back on, no further leaks - there's also a leak somewhere on the top of the fuel tank, maybe that cross over fuel line - that was has been left to fix when its on a hoist Otherwise than those niggles the car went great, turned great and stopped great so it was a very successful day out. I'm always really nervous when a car first hits the track after a long break, especially with a brand new engine as well but it was great. VID-20251011-WA0007.mp4  Big thanks to @The Bogan who dropped by and helped out, @MBS206 and my nephew Lachlan the apprentice.  Neil's wife Mel also surprised the hell out of all of us by dropping by; she's up in Tamworth these days but was travelling to Melbourne so had plausible deniability for turning up at the garage, it was great to see her but also obviously a bit sad all round.

    • Unsolicited advice? Keep the engine as close to stock as you can. Nothing wrong with adding some boost and making a little more power, but given where you are, you really don't want to try to make it into a monster. I can't imagine the roads are up to it, and the lack of locla support when it grenades will be a ball ache. FWIW, If there is a dyno around that you can access, then brand new injectors are a good idea, which will lead you to (at least) putting a Nistune in it, which will allow you to put an R35 AFM on it, all of which will make it possible to make it much much nicer to drive and live with.
