Its the alternator belt... mine did this too..

Its really easy to adjust.. If you're near Rosanna i can do it for you...

However if the belt is old and cracked.. its time for a new one

Here you go

1) Loosen bolt 1 with a 12mm socket or spanner

2) Tighten bolt 2 with same spanner

3) Check belt tension (if its tighter you've done it right)

4) Tighten bolt 1 again

+1

recently got my timing belt and all the other anxillary belts changed. every morning the belts would squeel, very high pitched. took it back to the mechanics and it turned out to be the alternator belt being a tad loose. my mechanic didnt want to use petroleum jelly on the belts because they were brand new. Note even after you tighten it...run it for a week and see how it goes. you might need to continue to tighten it again.

how old are your belts? if its old then you might want to invest in a belt change.

goodluck with that mate!

cheers!

You don't want to let a belt squeel for too long. Squeel leads to wear, wear leads to snap. With that snap: the fan doesn't work, leading to one oven of an engine bay and the altenator stops putting charge into the battery, which means that your car will only run for as long as your battery does. Either way, not fun.

In my R31 I did this and it snapped, luckily in winter, unluckily at night. Put a nice gash in my radiator, which in turn shat itself about 3 months later, along with the water pump... then I bought redonditioned parts, the "reconditioned" water pump leaked just as good as the one that I was replacing. So I had to do it again! :O

All I have to say is I can replace a water pump on a RB30 rather quickly now :D

Also, I wouldn't suggest using WD-40, or any kind of oily kind of substance on your belts. I don't know if it would cause it to eat at the belt, but to make myself sleep better at night I don't put anything on them.

I might just go and fix it this weekend then. I've been leaving my squeek going on for far too long.

Mine just stopped doing it the last few times i've had to start it, odd. Now if only i could sort out the random stalling/power cutting out when i go to slow down.. time to see a mechanic i think :)

it just loses all power when i begin to slow down sometimes, like ill shift to 3rd from 4th or start slowing down from 4th for a red light and it will die; steering/hicas light/0 rpm/breaks harden.

I think you've got a atmo bov or a leaking intercooler piping. If you've got an atmo bov, that's the problem. If not, check over your intercooler piping. Could be leaking.

Definately no atmo bov, my car is 100% stock minus the apexi pod i put on last night (which i havent driven with yet). Ill go over the piping i guess. Im getting the major service 9timing belt etc) done very soo, so if i cant find the problem, il let them worry about it.

Yeah i had something like that too but the squeaking only happened when i depressed the throttle. And after pressing and depressing the throttle a few times when cold the sound disappears. Only happens ocassionally though :)

There is also another posibility, that is the fan clutch, it may be attempting to engage and when you rev inertia makes is slip as it may be worn. they should spin freely then resonding to heat, jam up.

My car squeeks bad. I think it's something to do with the belts, but I can't be f**ked fixing it. I just try to ignore it :P

lmao u try to ignore it hahaha

thats funny as

i tried to ignore my piston knocking , and it got me no where hahah

dont be a lazy noob.tighten your belts.

My belts are too tight that's why they're squeeking. I need to loosen them.

MotoMan's right on the money. My car would always sqeek when i started it, expecially when it was cold. So this morning before work i tighten it the way that MotoMan said....and when i started the car the noise was gone.

woohoo!!!! Finally

thankx MotoMan :-)

i dont have the tools to do any work on my car.

i looked in old tool boxes and there is every number spanner/socket but 12!!! hows that for luck?

hmmm mine screeches in the morning for the first start and if its been sitting for 4-6 hours so basically a cold start again....i'll have to try the alternator and hopefully thats all it is....shits me coz it screeches for a couple of seconds when you start it and it makes the car look/sound like a cheap piece of shit!

:pwned: I know what you mean. People would always look at my car as if it's gonna blow up or something.

Mine was the water pump on its way out.... couple of drops out the seep hole onto the belts overnight.... creates squeal on first startup.... if you belts are not loose, then check out the water pump.... you will be able to see traces of it from underneath.

My water pump has just been replaced as far as I know. Don't think there's anything wrong there. I'm pretty sure it's the tight belt on the power steering. I remember hearing my dad say something about it being hard to turn when it was squeeling.

It hasn't squeeked for a while now. Warmer weather I think.

    • just an update to this, poor man pays twice  Tried sanding down the pulleys but it didnt do the trick. Chucked another second hand alternator in the na car which I got for free off my mate and its fixed the squelling. Must have been unlucky with the bearings.    As for my turbo car, I managed to pick up a cwc rb alternator conversion bracket + LS alternator for 250 off marketplace, looked to be in really good nick. Installed it , started the car and its not charging the battery.... ( Im not good with auto elec stuff so im not sure if this was all I needed to do but I verified such by using a multimeter on the battery when the engine was running and I was only getting 12.2v )   I had to modify the earth strap for the new LS alternator , factory earth strap was a 10mm bolt which did not fit the bolt on the LS alternator which was double the size so I cut it off , went to repco bought some ring terminals that fit, crimped it onto the old earth strap and bolted it up to the alternator , started the car and same issue. Ran like shit and was reading 12.2 at the battery.  For a "plug and play" advertised kit thats not very plug and play but alas.  My question is , am I missing something ? Ive been reading that some people recommend upgrading the stock 80 amp alternator fuse to a 140 amp but I dont see how that would stop the alternator charging especially at idle not under load.  Regardless ive pulled it out and am going to get it bench tested by an auto elec tomorrow but it would be handy to know if ive missed something silly or have done something wrong.
    • My wild guess is that you have popped off an intake pipe....check all of the hoses between the turbo and the throttle for splits or loose clamps.
    • Awesome, thanks for sharing!
    • To provide more specific help, more information is needed. What Android screen? What is its wiring diagram? Does the car's wiring have power at any required BAT and ACC wires, and is the loom's earth good?
    • So, now all you need to do is connect the 2 or 3x 12v feeds into the unit to permanent 12v, ACC 12V and IGN 12V that you can find in the spot behind the stereo, and the earth, and then it will switch on with the car.
