Need Some Advice On Getting A New Car / Laws.

Recommended Posts

Hey all,

I am 18 years old, (7th of July my birthday) got my Ps on the 17th of July or somewhere around there and i bought a 33 GTS (non turbo, cos of Ps) 4 door back in late December / early January to learn in etc thinking that 4 door will be cheaper on insurance too but wouldn't of made a difference (don't really like the look of the 4 door rears on the 33's)(parents advice.) Also this is auto as back then i thought auto was the way to go cos i was a pansy :P

Anyway so now i really want to get a manual car.. just being around with mates n that in manuals and knowing there so much better and actually DRIVING a car!.. i can sort of drive manual (not really but would just have to adjust to it really not that bad, bit of practice) and i would be getting another skyline naturally :nyaanyaa: but really want some more go! and thinking of getting a 32GTS-t or something.. but not too sure whats the go with the law's n cop agro and such.

I'd love to have a turbo.. but would hate to lose my license.. and i really want to get a manual coupe..

So i'm looking for some advice here, choices i have really are:

-Keeping my ugly 33 4 door GTS auto :\

-Selling my car, getting some cash together and get a 32 or something similar coupe GTS-t manual

-Selling my car, and getting another 33 GTS or something similar (non turbo) manual

Hope you can all understand this, not to sure how clearly i'm describing this lol

Need some advice!!!

Thanks for reading, Leigh.

Its all explained pretty clearly for ya in the below link, i'd be surprised if it doesnt cover what you want to know.

http://www.arrivealive.vic.gov.au/c_youngGLS_9a.html

You must stick to non-turbo models.

Cheers.

so i guess cops wouldn't be lenient at all even if i was like half a month later date on my license? :<

as for the license yeh i got a auto license i figured may as well cos i had a auto car. How could i go about getting a manual license? Could i learn to adjust to manual with P plates on for a bit then go for it or.. do i stick Ls on? lol

If i had to get a n/a i'd prob just go the 33 n/a again then i could just wack my rims n such on instead of selling em heh and get a coupe. (or theres the option of a conversion but $$ and time.)

What other n/a cars out there that are a nice car to drive with a fair bit of go?

edit: also after reading that page would i get done for having even extractors / exhaust / pod done ? thats lame screw em..

Would it be worth buying a 33 gts-t or something, then de turbo it? Im not sure on how much work it would really require or if it would affect the drive of the car? that way i could get the better features like LSD, 5 stud and better brakes etc. It's hard to find the better n/a with the LSD and extra few kw's and such, also would have to find it manual too! sigh.. lol maybe i should just save and drive what i got.

edit: GTS-T sedan, your car looks awesome man take care of it.

What is it with these new young kids and the idea to de-turbo a factory turbo car!?

They made a NA series, and a turbo series for a reason! If you don't want the turbo one, ffs buy the NA one!

I've heard it like 4 times in the last month, and its just dumb.

EDIT:

If you really want a skyline just say, and you cant drive a turbo one for instance because of power to weight laws or whatever the case may be.. Best thing I could suggest is to buy an NA Skyline or whatever it is that you want, drive it around for a few years, save up more cash, and once you get off probationary period sell it and buy your self a turbo one.

By then you would have have more experience and you can enjoy the car without any issues with the law.

umfortunatly you cant buy a turbo and un-turbo it leagly, it would be classed as a modifyed turbo and if you got a dodgy cop or one that didnt know shit they would still book you for power to weight or driving a turbo car, pretty much stick with na till you can legaly drive a turbo, spech living in se suburbs.

On the manual licence thing i think you have to go with an instructor with your p's and driving under instruction then you have to re-sit your driving test, or you can wait until you get your full licence then its automaticlly a manual licence

Hope that helps

Cheers Jarrod

just for the record;

the only turbo nissans that pre- july 1st P plater's can drive are ca18det man/auto, and rb20det AUTO.

even if your car as an individual is under the power to weight ratio, it still applies.

i heard bullshit here and hearsay there, but the only way i found out the truth was by going to epping tmu and speaking to a senior constable which showed me the list of allowed and banned cars.

sux2bus!

lol buy a 32 gtst sedan any model will be nder the power to weight restriction :D its like 1320kg

The new laws prevent you from drivng a turbo - despite the privious power wieght rules.

    • On 12th June, the mechanic could not figure out what the issue was, but the car seems to be flooding with fuel. He was suspecting the tune, thus referred me to a tuner. Although the tuner is not familiar with Nistune, last Monday (30th June), he came over to try and re-map it. Despite the tuner trying to completely stop fuel, it kept sounding like it was pushing fuel. Tuner ended up suspecting either the ECU or Injectors. I do not believe the ECU or Nistune is the issue, as the Nistune software reads and communicates properly. Today, I removed the (new) injectors to see if they are clogged or leaking. Surprisingly enough, after those 3 days of driving, injectors 2 and 3 look very blocked. You can see the difference in the picture. I blew a bit on 3, that is why it doesn't look as clogged as 2. I am still unsure if this is what is causing the no start issue, but I am now feeling that I may have bought the injectors and Nistune without the need to do so, as the problem seems to be coming from somewhere else.
    • haha this shit box doesn't drink coolant, for now       Let me guess, they make heaps of power, use the car for straight line driving and don't care about noise
    • They’re so great that I know of someone pulling one out to go back to a sequential
    • Hello everyone. I've recently started the research into R34 GTR front bits and running into eye watering prices. On the plus site it looks like some places make 'replacement' fender liners for these cars. At eye-watering-but-less than stock prices. I also noticed there's plenty of diffuser options available too. What I would like to know is if my following assumptions are correct. 1) The OEM guard liners are actually only 'half' the liner. They go together with the OEM brake vents which are a separate item which looks to be quite a large 'panel' that is part of the liner. The GTR bumper has bolt holes along the front. I assume the ones in the vent correspond to the ones the OEM liner does not have (circled?)   2) The V-Spec front diffuser supplants the brake ducts in the above item. I am assuming these still work with the guard liners as there's no alternate part that I'm aware of. I don't see how they go together, so I'm making the assumption that they have to, somehow. I know the center splash guard is different on the V-Spec (and is the price of the damn diffuser alone). How does the liner interact with this? 3) There's alternate front diffusers that do away with it all. Annoyingly, a lot of the clones and CF different ones... have no brake ducts on them. I like the idea of them though. My brakes get hot on the track. These alternate diffusers are a lot cheaper than plastic splash guards. I'm assuming you don't have to/aren't supposed to remove guard liners to run a diffuser. I suspect that quite a few people actually do not run the guard liner because with a front undertray you're getting a lot of 'splash' guarding anyway, and most people remove liners given they're probably running a pretty aggressive setup with a diffuser at the front. It would also be nice to know if anyone has ever run the 'reproduction' guard liners and know whether the fitment is OEM quality or "OEM Quality". Example: https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/356254671561 https://carbonetics.net/products/nissan-skyline-r34-gtr-plastic-front-wheel-arch-set Is this knowledge still around?
    • Really, effort is pretty low. You hand fistfuls of cash over to someone else and pick it up when done...   And at least this shitbox isn't drinking coolant right?
