Hi all

I had just spent the entire afternoon making myself an enclosed box for my pod filter and I thought I'd share it with you.

Find yourself a couple of sheet of cardboard and start making your design. Obviously there are plenty of templates out there on the net but no one seems to have any measurement so you'll going to have to draw free hand. The top cover is the easy part as all you need is the general shape and it should be pretty straight forward. The partition part is the more difficult one as you need to cut the cardboard piece by piece as you gauge how well it's fitting. Just remember you allow holes for the pipes. See below for shapes

Once thats done you can use it as a template and copy it onto a sheet of Aluminium. You can get these sheets from you local Bunnings for $25, 0.5mm X 600 X 900 I think. You can try to get the thicker one if you wish but if you don't have professional cutting tools like me, 0.5mm is probably the best thickness to use. It's thin enough for you to cut and thick enough to be useful.

Once you've traced the shape then start cutting away. For me I decided to use the tin snips because I did not have a good work bench with vice grips for me to work with. The only problem with tin snips is that you can't cut round shapes and with great difficulty I managed to break them off and filed it down.

Now comes the most difficult part, cutting holes in the middle for the pipe. I chose a shape that required only cutting one square hole in for the air flow meter and a half circle at the bottom for the other pipe. Most design will have a few extra holes for the charcoal canister etc etc .........well, I couldn't be bothered so I bent the whole sheet to wrap around the two canister rather than have a piece going through.

Once you've cut the whole lot, bend whatever you need to and fit the box on. It doesn't hurt to cross your fingers as sometimes things don't go as you planned and a lot of cursing will follow. Have some nuts and bolts handy to tighten the two pieces up.

I'm fairly certain you can slide the metal under the charcoal canister bracket and the headlight bracket so that it doesn't bend your shiny looking panel when you tighten the screws but I didn't really care. It wasn't going to win the design of the year award so I just left it on the top and had it bent when the screws were tightened.

Take your cardboard templates to your local metal fabricator and they will supply and cut the material for $25 with the proper tools.

I was going to start my templates today until I realised my car is at my mechanics

    • Yea - I mean I've seen my fuel pump which is decades old and uh, while I'm not saying this with real knowledge... but I sure get the ick at using anything in the fuel system that produced the state of that pump. Many years ago I went through multiple pumps (and strainers) before I dropped the tank to clean it out with extreme violence. I'm talking the car would do maybe 50km before coming to a halt, which resulted in me cleaning out the filter with some brake cleaner and going on my way. None of my stuff ever looked like what came out of your fuel tank. I don't think I'd be happy with it unless every single component was replaced (or at least checked/cleaned/confirmed to be clean here).
    • I'm not going to recommend an EBC pad. I don't like them. Just about anything else would suit me better. I've been using Intima pads for a while now.
    • Agreed, and in particular the earth strap that should go from the subframe to the chassis but it often broken or left off. There is a section in the R32 workshop manual you can follow for troubleshooting if you don't see anything suspicious, and depending where you are (there is no location on your user profile) you should be able to get your hands on a second hand replacement unit still if needed
    • Yeah they mention as a R34 for 2.5 Turbo...but then again thos "small" were also for R34 by that different site. But i look into it and that 310mm EBC is for R34 GTT. And by those you linked the specs are the same 🙂    EDIT: I found these on one site here: DBA 4000 series T3 DBA42304S They are 310mm...and it says are for R34GTT...are there good? EDIT2: ok they have pads too.  What "color" should i get for street use? I dont want/need some noisy ones...(and if they are not that dusty that is good too)
    • Yeah, shame. Maybe  driver's carpet is available 🙏. I am waiting for both amayama and nangun to confirm.
