Hey Guys just need some thoughts,

i recently got my car tuned ever since have not had any problems, Was out a couple hours Ago Went for a bit of a Joy ride , Went a bit hard on the car on the motorway But then suddenly the car just wasnt performing as it should , It was reading no boost at all.. If i gave it petrol It would not Hit boost at all so in other words it was reading 0 Boost on the boost gauge.... I checked for any smoke coming out of the exsaust No signs of any unusuall coloured smoke and the engine was not knocking at all or making any weird noises..

Any ideas Guys ???

umm that description isn't good.....most likely you've blown a turbo. On the bright side it sounds like your motor survived, not everyone is that lucky.

If you have a cat, pull it off the front pipe and see if there is a turbo compressor blade in there....

Thanx for the feedback guys.. Duncan im pretty sure it aint the turbos mainly because the car was not blowing blue/White smoke for starters .... Motor is actually brand new just done a rebuild on it too Im hoping its not that... I was under the inpression it was a boost leak or some hose has came off but just wanted to get some other feed back..

thanx guyss

Yeah, it happened to me twice on calder's straight, flat out and then suddenly a loud POP noise. Both hoses on either side of the intercooler, once each.

sounds like what happened to me... i feel much better now.. illl check it out in the morning .. thanks alot pal...

Hey,

In regards to an intercooler pipe popping off, this happened to me the other weekend. The difference between our stories, I heard a POP like Yawn did and then it lost power and had to pull over where it died and would only start and idle for about 5 sec before stalling.

So yeah check all your pipes, it may not be a big enough vacuum leak to stop the car like mine did but enough to let out pressurized air, ie no boost.

Cheers!

Gagz

Yeah, i lost power and i wasn't even getting 1 psi of pressure.

The first time it popped off I had to go back in and forced it back on. The 2nd time it happened it was dislodged way too far off and i didnt have the tools to fit it back on so i had to drive all the way back to my workshop with the hose off. Not the best thing to do but i had no choice besides getting a few hundred dollar bill to get it towed back.

I was having trouble even getting to 80kmh :)

Yeah had a look at the car today Most intercooler piping seemed fine i couldnt figure it out and problem is i have a front body kit so really i couldnt get a real good look so im going to takeit to a mates workshop tomorow and he can have a better look mainly because i aint too famililiar with things like this.. but yeah yawn sounds like were in the same boat.. ill let you know how it goes guys

thanx alot for all the help....

Just wanted to let you know you were spot on Turbos were gone the car did not blow any smoke until the mechanic took it for a test drive ..... :)

woo hoo 1 point for me.

but -1 for you :P

second hand gtr turbs are cheap but who knows how long before they die too....best to get them highflowed with steel wheels now.

Yeah ended up getting N1s .... Had some money lying around... its amazing though everyone i spoke to said it was intercooler piping or some hose like everyone....

Thanx Dunc.....

well like r31 gagz said, normally with a cooler pipe the car won't run at all (unless it only opens up under boost which is much rarer). Anyway, the 34 n1 turbs are the pick of the crop, you will enjoy the upgrade

    • Thanks for doing that Duncan! Makes you a good person in my books. We don't get kangaroos or wombats here. But we have bats and it's similar. AFAIK it's often the mums with a baby attached that get hit because they drop lower when starting from a tree. If you hit an animal, check on it. https://www.ifaw.org/au/resources/wildlife-rescue-app An app to get the closest wildlife rescue contact.
    • My dream is also to have a proper hoist, but I don't think it will ever happen. My quickjack is probably as close as I'll ever get, it really is very good though.
    • Yeah we keep on in the dailies, it is pretty poor how many animals get hit and the driver leaves without checking....have saved a couple of little ones over the years. Bit of a gruesome job though, pouches generally need to be cut open because they are so tight and often the joey doesn't realise mum is gone so they are still locked onto the teat. I checked the modules in front of the DS wheel where an oil cooler should go.... There is the radar unit - that can go for race use) One of the 2 HX water pumps, the silver cylinder. That needs to be kept but might be able to be relocated But the bad news, the big computer mounted vertically in front of the wheel (blocking any potential air exit) is the electric steering computer. That is required until/unless i do a hydraulic steering conversion, and in CAD based modern car design it is not like I can just pop a big unit like that somewhere else (plus the loom would be too short anywhere else too). So, the passenger side is OK to clear out (just use a smaller washer reservoir, potentially elsewhere), but the DS no beuno
    • Well, all the best with the new camry It was interesting to hear about the UK process, it is generally a lot more streamlined here with a shipping agent looking after all the import side (noting the exact final price can still be a surprise.....) and I've used a few different brokers on the japan (or US) side, and never had any trouble with any of them....luck of the draw I guess. You mentioned you didn't get the auction sheet (understandable since you bought it from a dealer, not auction), but I always try and get hold of that because they are pretty thorough. I've imported 2x R grade vehicles over the years and both were fine, repairs in Japan are pretty thorough compared to here in Oz.
    • BTW I measured the jack I have, it is 70mm at the saddle but you only have about 700 until it returns to 150mm high at the cylinder so it is good but no magic bullet.
