yeah, im starting to get pretty disheartened about it all really. :)

as of today is been 4 weeks since its moved (and has cost me over $400 in loan payments and insurance for the privilege, and the parts on top of that). im about 3 seconds away from taking to it with 10 litres of petrol and a match.

ive called andrew and left a message, im having trouble seeing how 3 components designed to fit an s14 dont work together. its doing my head in.

i shouldve just used the gktech gear. wouldve been back on the road over a week ago if i had.

Push it in, make it fit. push the catback out as hard as you can?

tried that. even with the catback pulled back as far as it'll go (with ZERO play left in the hangers) the gap is still about 5mm too small fit the bastard in. add another couple mm for gaskets and yeah, shit just aint gonna fit.

PLEASE dont take it to AAA Andrew is @ supercup today and will be more than happy to help sort your shit out

BUT sounds like the apexi is whats giving you grief, how is the factory cat 30mm too long  i would of though the factory cat should be the right length

yeah, i left a message on his phone. figured he'd be at dsc. both cats are the same size (factory is a couple mm larger than the xforce one), both fit fine with factory dump and front, neither fit with the AM pipe fitted, the gap between the rear flange on the front pipe and the front flange on the apexi is 30mm too short, which makes me think the front pipe is 30mm too long.

ah well yeah wait till he can sort you out becuase you've paid for his work and now he wont rest until its sorted but if you take it somewhere else and they butcher it then you need to take it back how bad will that be

yeah, i just feel like a bit of an asshole taking it back, ive already had to take it back once eh...

    • They are under bucket shims. Tomei provides a test shim kit and then any measurement of shim required.
    • I always wondered how you were supposed to buy a set of 24 buckets and somehow magically have every single one of them yield exactly the desired clearance. I would have thought you'd need to assemble a cam with either 12 "sample" or "example" buckets of known top thickness (or a single such sample/example 12 times over!!) measure clearances at every valve, and then do the usual math to work out what the actual "shimness" of each bucket needed to be, before buying the required buckets to make up he thicknesses that you didn't have on hand.
    • I now seem to be limited in power due to my rev limit/hydraulic lifters in my built RB25. I'm looking into converting over to Tomei solid lifters. Question for anyone that has done the conversion. I was always under the impression that when using the Tomei solid lifter conversion, you would also require new valves (Longer or shorter stems, I can't remember which).  I don't know where I got this idea, as so far I see no mention of this in any of the Tomei documentation. It just states I need the Tomei solid buckets, solid lifter cams and upgraded springs. As my head is already built, all I would need is another set of 1000$ Kelford cams, 500$ buckets and about 4H hours of my time installing and I'm off to the races!?!? There's no way it's that simple, I must be missing something?
