I think you can just find some decent projectors from wreckers...and some 2nd hand ballast and bulbs, just make sure they're OEM brands..

Just savage them from S2000 and Accord euro (luxury), they are known to be s2k and TSX projectors. S2k is probably one of the best HID projectors out there.

Here's a few pics of the s2000 projectors i'm trying to retrofit..

You've got to watch out for the sizes of the projectors as well. S2000 Projectors are one of the biggest you can get. As far as I know, you're best off getting Honda Euro projectors. They're 2.5" or 3" and should fit into the standard projector position fine. They're also called TSX like R34Ricer has mentioned.

i have pair of raybrig bulbs (h3c) in my 32R which didnt improve my lighting one bit.. however now u mention it, it does have two clear hotspots.. is there anyway of getting rid of this (could the bulbs be installed incorrectly).. is there any mechanism on the headlight that allows you to alter the light direction, spread etc

Hi mate, are these 'raybrig' globes HID globes by any chance? I've never heard of them before.

Hot spots usually occur when you install HID globes because halogen and HID globes produce their 'peak' brightness at different positions along the globe (halogen produce it at the top of the globes, HID produce it in the near middle). The head light housing is designed for the halogen globes, so the reflectors/projectors collect the light from that area most. If you put in HID globes (different brightness position), the reflectors will collect the 'wrong' light. f**k, haha, I didn't exactly explain that all too well, but I hope you can put the information together for a better understanding. :D

As far fixing it up, I don't think you can apart from using globes that the head light housing was designed for.

From my experience, all halogen head lights have some hot spots to an extent. It's just that the light isn't bright enough to produce a 'clear' hot spot.

For those of you who would like to learn more about HID's in general should give this a read. It's a great read and you'll learn a lot.

I hope this will change everyones minds about installing those cheap HID kits into your halogen designed headlights.

@adam.. nope just normal raybrig white bulbs to get rid of the yellow look.. cant say brightness increased nor distance.. if anything the stock lights had better coverage.. still exploring good HID option.. does anyone know if the GTR N1 headlights allow for HID kits as low beam is no longer projector style??

Those HID kits in reflector housings will give worse results than putting them in projectors. You often see people not recommend putting those kits into R33's because they've got reflectors. Having the kits in R32 projectors, you could be forgiven for having them in, but putting them in a reflector is a big 'no no'.

As for the bulb, try getting some philips globes. You'll spend a little more, but you'll also get better results.

Edit: If you want the best headlight output, go retrofit a projector from a car which had HID's as standard. Honda Euro's are a popular choice.

Bringing up an old thread, does anyone know of any place or anyone that can do a retrofit for me?

I can easily get the parts but sadly I have no clue when it comes to doing something like this. I tried PM-ing Ronin but he doesnt want to go thru it again. If any DIY-er wants to earn some extra cash PM me.

how would the N1 headlights go.. should be able to get better visibility with those right??

If you're talking about standard (no HID in them), they're slightly better then the ones with the projectors. Not worth purchasing for the extra little light though.

Nah, the 'N1' style headlights are reflectors and if you put HID's in them, they'll be worse than putting them in projectors.

Putting them in the projectors will be better, but still shit.

Have a read on hidplanet.com. It's not only the projector that makes the cut off line and beam look good. The people over on there use bits and pieces from different cars. Mixing and matching lenses to different shields to different ballasts, etc.

There are some crazy lights over on that site.

yeah, HIDplanet are good

the FX35/45 projectors are cheap, the shrouds are easy to change to RHD for our roads but are a bit blurry in the cutoff line, but you can get accord projector lenses or similar TSX lenses to replace the FX35 lenses if you want a crisp cutoff.

They only cost liek $50 USD off ebay plus shipping

they take D2S bulbs, so you can get an H4 to D2S bulb kit and it'll fit in your old wiring, you can also wire it up to do low/high beam because it has a motor in the housing, so instead of flashing the bulbs off, it pulls the shroud down

I had them fitting in my old skyline lights, they are a 2.5" and fit nicely with a bit of cutting to the back of the headlight, probably takes half an hour to fit them if you hack them up a bit :D

I have since sold mine though, since I'm selling my skylines off, but I'm looking at picking up a Datto 1200 and putting a ca18det into it or rb20, so I'm still floating on these forums, I'll hopefully put custom HID projectors into the old datto headlights for a bit of fun too

    • For once a good news  It needed to be adjusted by that one nut and it is ok  At least something was easy But thank you very much for help. But a small issue is now(gearbox) that when the car is stationary you can hear "clinking" from gearbox so some of the bearing is 100% not that happy... It goes away once you push clutch so it is 100% gearbox. Just if you know...what that bearing could be? It sounding like "spun bearing" but it is louder.
    • Yeah, that's fine**. But the numbers you came up with are just wrong. Try it for yourself. Put in any voltage from the possible range and see what result you get. You get nonsense. ** When I say "fine", I mean, it's still shit. The very simple linear formula (slope & intercept) is shit for a sensor with a non-linear response. This is the curve, from your data above. Look at the CURVE! It's only really linear between about 30 and 90 °C. And if you used only that range to define a curve, it would be great. But you would go more and more wrong as you went to higher temps. And that is why the slope & intercept found when you use 50 and 150 as the end points is so bad halfway between those points. The real curve is a long way below the linear curve which just zips straight between the end points, like this one. You could probably use the same slope and a lower intercept, to move that straight line down, and spread the error out. But you would 5-10°C off in a lot of places. You'd need to say what temperature range you really wanted to be most right - say, 100 to 130, and plop the line closest to teh real curve in that region, which would make it quite wrong down at the lower temperatures. Let me just say that HPTuners are not being realistic in only allowing for a simple linear curve. 
    • I feel I should re-iterate. The above picture is the only option available in the software and the blurb from HP Tuners I quoted earlier is the only way to add data to it and that's the description they offer as to how to figure it out. The only fields available is the blank box after (Input/ ) and the box right before = Output. Those are the only numbers that can be entered.
    • No, your formula is arse backwards. Mine is totally different to yours, and is the one I said was bang on at 50 and 150. I'll put your data into Excel (actually it already is, chart it and fit a linear fit to it, aiming to make it evenly wrong across the whole span. But not now. Other things to do first.
    • God damnit. The only option I actually have in the software is the one that is screenshotted. I am glad that I at least got it right... for those two points. Would it actually change anything if I chose/used 80C and 120C as the two points instead? My brain wants to imagine the formula put into HPtuners would be the same equation, otherwise none of this makes sense to me, unless: 1) The formula you put into VCM Scanner/HPTuners is always linear 2) The two points/input pairs are only arbitrary to choose (as the documentation implies) IF the actual scaling of the sensor is linear. then 3) If the scaling is not linear, the two points you choose matter a great deal, because the formula will draw a line between those two points only.
