i put a rb25det in my r32 with the standard r33 25 loom and computer. its been running fine for a while now until yesterday. i washed the car and on the way home the tacho dropped to 0 and car died. i let it sit for a while and it started again. it runs for a period of time and then as if something gets too hot and stops working. i've swapped several things including CAS, ECU, ignitor,

when car won't start it cranks and injectors fire and theres fuel. if u spin the cas the injectors fire but no coils. it did get water in the wiring loom and that has all been cleaned out. i have checked all the wires to and from the cas. it gets battery voltage and earth. both signal wires are outputting signal when it cranks without starting.

any ideas would be great cause im out of em!

when it's dead confirm that you are getting power to the coils. You've swapped ignitors so thats ruled out, check the eccs and ign relays, though it's more than likely the ign one if you still have injectors firing.

the tacho dropping to nothing has me beat as it's based on the ecu output which i assume comes from the cas signal. I've had it happen in an old single coil setup before when the pick up died, but i don't know how it would cross over into a more modern setup.

yeah forgot to mention that i've swapped the ignition relay with the other blue one next to it. which i presume is the ECCS one. no difference

I'm not a car guru, but I have had a similiar issue after washing out the engine bay of my R33. I managed to get water into the wiring loom. It caused the coils to short out and start arc'ing. The water causes the spark to arc into the block rather than arcing through the spark plug gap.

I started my R33 while the coils were wet and she started mis-firing something really really bad. I left the car out in the sun with the bonnet up for a few hours and it was improved. She only started mis-firing after 4000 rpm. It took a while but she dried out and was working fine after that. It could be that you have the same issues. Either that or you have water causing a short circuit in your wiring loom.

Hope this helps

Sounds like the ignition module. Everything will test ok, but the car will usually die when it gets hot or it wont start after driving until its cooled. Pretty common in older RB motors apparently

thanks for all your help guys. i have solved the problem.. it was the coolant temp sensor for the ecu. i pin pointed it by unplugging it when it would not start. the car then fired although extremely rough due to it running rich from the substitute value. i then tried another sensor i had from my spare engine. it has not missed a beat since sunday nite.

    • Welcome mate.  No point in over thinking it, buying any one of those cars you mentioned is not a smart or logical choice with the availability of many "better" (re price to performance) cars available to you.  The heart wants what the heart wants, buy whatever it leads you too.
    • Hey everyone! Im so grateful to be apart of this community and ill do my best to be apart of this. Firstly, i'm not disclosing my real name due to in real life circumstances surrounding my privacy and public image (sorry lol) Secondly, The only thing personal I am willing to share is that I'm from Sydney and a descendant of one of Sydneys largest mortgage firms. I got gifted my first ever car, a 2022 Porsche Cayenne and I love it to death. Ive been driving it for about 5 or 6 months now and honestly Im so grateful for my parents for gifting me this vehicle. However recently I've been working my ass off to afford my second car (which I need help deciding soooooo community help me out please?). Once decided, im planning to try modify it myself. Recent I've been thinking about getting a Skyline, particularly a 25GT or GT-V, yes I know overrated as hell, but I'm also considering a Chaser which I recently came to love. However my dream is to one day own a 180SX (So hard to find clean versions and im not really into importing).  Lastly before I send this off, I want to apologize if I sound tacky or pretentious. I try not to and want to genuinely learn from everyone and anyone. (Im no expert in this area) Thanks for reading!
