Attempted Theft Of My 'line

Hi All,

Just a little warning and heads up about an incident yesterday.

I had my car parked in the Blacktown Kmart car park under the little ramp that faces Flushcombe Rd. Here I was thinking it was an alright place to park (I work just down the road) as it was in the shade and fairly well hidden, little did I know! :bunny:

I had parked at 8.30am, came back to move my car at 1.05pm to find that I couldn't put my key in the lock. Thinking it was strange I looked at the lock, which was totally mangled! Same as the passenger side! Obviously some amatures *luckily*. Seeing as they were unable to get into the car they proceeded to cover the car in some sticky substance which chipped away some paint once I was able to wash it and found they had also keyed the boot and around the locks.

I didn't have an alarm at the time as the old one was playing up, so I'll definately be investing in one ASAP.

Overall cost me $200.00 for them to get into the car and unlock it for me then take it back to the workshop and repair the locks.

A lesson well learnt! :blush::):D

Of course I have it insured, and the turbo timer acts like an immobiliser (one of the Apexi ones where if you start the car without keys and take off the handbrake it cuts out).

It just really annoys me why people can't leave other's possessions alone!

i know exactly where your talking about,i find if your cars hidden* it usually means the theives are also hidden while attempting to do bad things to your car.

Maybe closer to Kmart's front door would be safer.

Is that next to the former RTA?

Mate's car got jacked there a few weeks back, but was alright..was a civic

man i work at blacktown too, i alway park my car insight, you never know when those d**khead bogans comes around near your car...and think is a Ferrari, so pisses on it..

I got the turbo timer hooked up at Autobarn in Blacktown a while back.

Sheng, it was near the former RTA yeah, under the little ramp.

I'm so paranoid about leaving it out of my sight right now!

A poorly installed turbo timer can be traced directly to your ignition wires... But anyway, it takes someone who knows what they are doing. You're lucky you got a couple of punks this time around.

I never park my car where people can be hidden trying to break into it. The main thing these theives want happen is to be detected by somebody..always park you're car in the open, where its in plain view of everyone.

Its a shame about them keying the car as that wll be a pain in the ass to fix and look at, but good luck on repairing it and thank goodness they were amatures.

well first of all that ramp looks like fossil age already, soo i wont park it underneath lol,

mate im sure there are a few cameras out there if you wanna look into it, coz is behind the band club right, so cameras :D

or council car park FTW!! :)

LOL your turbo timer is no where near an immobiliser.. your car turning off when the hand brake is dropped is more a safety feature.

Please invest in a proper alarm system with a good install. Even if you do have the car fully insured.. its a pain to get a pay out and even then you'll still be in a loss with time/money

i had an attempted theft once at a carpark in darling harbour.. they managed to get the bonnet open from the front of the car, lucky the farken loud alarm scared them off once they lifted the bonnet otherwise i woulda lost it...

YOU WERE LUCKY..HOPEFULLY YOU GOT IT REPAIRED...BIT OF A WORRY,I USUALLY PARK IN WELL LIT PLACES IN FRONT OF SHOPS ETC AT NIGHT....FOR ME ITS BEEN PUNCTURES LATELY FROM LEAVING CAR OUT,LIKE BIG SCREWS IN THE TYRES,HHMMMMM.....FORGET ALARMS?????? GET IT IMMOBIZED WITH A GOOD BRAND LIKE DYNATRON SO IT CANT BE STOLEN EVEN BY SOMEONE WHO KNOWS WHAT THEY ARE DOING...AND DONT LEAVE WALLETS,PURSES OR EVEN ANY CD'S ETC VISIBLE.

Someone who knows what they are doing can bypass any immobilisation eventually. Extra immobilisation points and creative ways of disabling the car just increase the amount of time that it takes for a professional to take the car.

get a immobiliser but better yet get insurance. A friend of mine has all types of immobilisers and locks and stuff but the bastards ended up taking his car with a towtruck.. and no one suspected anything because they probably thought he was getting repairs or something.

      ..this is the current state of that port. I appreciate the info help (and the link to the Earls thing @Duncan). Though going by that it seems like 1/4 then BSP'ing it and using a bush may work. I don't know where I'd be remote mounting the pressure sender... to... exactly. I assume the idea here is that any vibration is taken up by the semiflexible/flexible hose itself instead of it leveraging against the block directly. I want to believe a stronger, steel bush/adapter would work, but I don't know if that is engineeringly sound or just wishful thinking given the stupendous implications of a leak/failure in this spot. What are the real world risks of dissimilar metals here? It's a 6061 Aluminum block, and I'm talking brass or steel or SS adapters/things.

      And if you have to drill the oil block, then just drill it for 1/4" and tap it BSP and get a 1/8 to 1/4 BSP bush. The Nissan sender will go straight in and the bush will suit the newly tapped hole. And it will be real strong, to boot.

      No it doesn't. It just needs an ezy-out to pull that broken bit of alloy out of the hole and presto chango - it will be back to being a 1/8" hole tapped NPT. as per @MBS206 recco. That would be for making what you had in alloy, in steel. If you wanted to do just that instead of remote mounting like @Duncan and I have been pushing. A steel fitting would be unbreakable (compared to that tragically skinny little alloy adapter). But remote mounting would almost certainly be 10x better. Small engineering shops abound all over the place. A lathe and 10 minutes of time = 2x six packs.

      Ahh. Well the block damage is a problem, you really need to run a tap or thread chaser through it to see if the threads can be saved, but any chips are likely to be bottom end bound which is bad. Earls seem to have what you need if you want to stick with mounting direct on the block: https://rceperformance.com.au/parts/earls-straight-adapter-1-8-npt-male-to-1-8-bspt-female.html, but as I said above I'd recommend remote mounting the sender

      I'm not quite understanding or I'm missing steps here, (I appreciate people are trying to inform my brain but I am of the dumb, especially today) - All I want to do is mount the male BSPT of the OEM sender into the system somewhere without it snapping the adapter via vibration. The Nissan sender has a male 1/8 BSPT output. The block has a (very destroyed) 1/8 NPT input. I'm not really sure how a lathe assists with that, and also don't know anybody with a lathe, nor specifically what I would want to buy. I'm not really sure how adding additional adapters creates a better, more leak proof resilient seal here.
