hey all got the usual shit squeal with my r33, no matter what i do they sqeal

what ive done

new rotors front and back, slotted from the group buy

cheapie pads up front

cheapies at rear (different brand)

and guessing stock nissan handbrake shoes

used anti squeal, and i have all my shims

bled the system and have braided lines not like it makes a difference

bed them in properly but still got the squeal

sometimes it comes from the front, sometimes back sometimes both and yes EVEN the handbrake squeals (use it sometimes coz its so embarassing pulling up to lights on a bad day)

so the only common thing is the brake rotors... it is only when slowing down say under 30kms an hour they start to squeal

WHY WHY WHY

anyhow they weren't as bad before (still some squeal) with standard rotors and standard nissan pads up front so this is not acceptable, there has to be a reason.... cannot just say thats the way it is

anyone have anything i can try or any theories??

were the rotors completely clean before you took it out to bed in the pads, did they have any greasy finger prints or oil still on them, as when the brakes get real hot left over gunk on brakes tend to cook and make them squeal.

Just a thought.

I'm having the exact same problem but with stock 33gtst rotors and bendix ultimate pads. It's got us stumped, the only thing that has had any effect on the squeeling was lubing between the calipers and the back of the pads but even that only last a couple of days.

Doesn't do it EVERY time but more often than not and it's when I brake lightly coming up to traffic lights etc. Mechanic says he can feel a vibration when it does it.. going to try skim the rotors next and see if that helps.

i get the same problem, only without the vibration. i put my problem down to brake dust....

however, with a vibration, it could be number of different things. a slightly loose bolt in the caliper, shims missing or around the wrong way or even just a small stone stuck in your brake pad...

I don't think it's a huge vibration as I can't feel it, he was in the passenger seat when it squeeled bad and said it was a vibration.. I think the squeeling is a minute high frequency vibration.

I should really have skimmed the rotors when I put them on, they are 2ndhand 33gtst items. Looked fine when I put them on but the bendixz pads seem to have lipped the rotors fairly quickly :(

i would hardly think using brake cleaner would cause squeal as that is its designed purpose

i might try this copper grease just got a laugh to see what happens

just to make sure i do it correct there is 2 shim and then the pad

so...

piston -> shim 1 -> shim 2-> brake pad -> rotor

so i put grease between piston and shim 1 & shim 1 and shim 2 and even between shim 2 and brake pad?

what is actually squealing? is it the pad on the rotor or caliper piston on the backing plate of the pad? im just unsure thats why im asking. does it only do it wen braking at low speeds because you aren't putting as much pressure on the pedal and so the pad/caliper piston is only slightly engaging?

my car is doing the same after putting in bendix pads, its pretty annoying to say the least

I'm running bendix pads aswell, does it at low speed with light pedal application but once it starts squeeling, it doesn't matter how hard you push the pedal - it doesn't go away till you come to a dead stop.

did you bleed the brakes after resetting the caliper pistons to put the new pads in? if there is air in the brake lines would this give the caliper piston some play? that would let the brake pad vibrate slightly enough to give off the high frequency squealing?

ok just noticed u did bleed the brakes. did u bleed them at all 4 corners?

yeah i did but im going to do a full brake flush when i get the chance with some new fluid and thinking of getting some QFM pads for the front, use copper grease and hopefully i get some better results

with standard rotors and stock nissan pads it done it maybe 20% of the time but this is like 80% if not more

    • This car has run before on this z32 ecu can get the part number for you, I have tried with no AFM it didn’t change anything, I compression tested today 140-150 across all 6 cylinders, also set fuel pressure to 43psi. The only weird thing was cylinder 1 plug was black and fouled other 5 cylinders were just wet with fuel. Spun cas by hand and confirmed injectors are clicking
    • Since you came here to ask for help, have you thought about answering our questions, that might help us lead you to why it was skipping, or have you given up on getting advice?
    • A 1.5 way is a 2 way. It is just a 2 way with a less aggressive ramp on overrun.
    • The ABS and/or TCS being missing/broken will not cause the engine to misbehave. It just casues CEL to come on and annoy you. The CEL is useless if it is always on, so you have to do the things you have to do to get rid of it, so it can be useful. Being a Stag ECU, then yes, it will not expect TCS to be present. But it will expect ABS to be present and working. You will need to either make the ABS CU talk to the ECU (don't ask me what that will take on an NA R34), and make sure the hardware is working....or, you just need to blank it out in Nistune. Do not persist with the stock ECU. You will just have problems. Gte it Nistuned. Start from there. DO YOU HAVE A BOOST SENSOR? The ECU's boost sensor that it. It is connected to the loom at the rear of the coil cover. Usually rides on the firewall on an R34, but is usually bolted down to a bracket along with all the other crap at the back of the coil cover when a Neo is dropped into another car. If you do not have it, the ECU will shit the bed. So, do you have one?
    • So sadly the fuel pump etc was not it. The pump and filter is new and it is still cutting around 4000 rpm. A read something about ABS/TCS (engine is from stagea and ECU too so no TCS) and i dont know for 100% that my car has ABS. It has ABS "cube" in engine bay but i dont think it works(or at least from my braking experience). Can be something like that?  I will be driving the car next week to Nistune tuner to properly see what is wrong...
