Hi all, first post on here and looking to import an R32 GTR. Just sold my 300zx TT after 6 years, felt like it was time for a change!

Anyway I cannot find a definitive answer on what year they fixed the R32 GTR oil pump issue. So far I've read all the 1993 models, only 1994 and only late 1994. Done heaps of searching but it's confusing me more with various dates.

Anyone know for sure?

Are you referring to a pump fail or oil starvation/surge issue?

As far as I know there aren't really any problems with the standard oil pump, maybe if you do some track work with a 14-18 year old oil pump it would probably give way at sooner or later. I have heard that a lot of people have trouble with failing newish N1 oil pumps but others that are dedicated track cars also run them and have no trouble what so ever.

A common issue with track driven R32 GTRs is oil surge/starvation....the restrictor on the head feed is too large with the return too small causing all the oil to get banked up in the head and leaving nothing in the sump. A quick fix is to overfill by 1 litre before any track work and empty it back out after, but to do it properly you need to fit a smaller feed restrictor and either bore the return gallery or plum an external return line.

Thanks for the reply. I think it was maybe the oil pump collar where it attaches to the crank? Think early versions were very thin then it was beefed up but not sure when.

Yeah I think Ive heard a similar thing, you might have to do some searching though....should be covered on the forum somewhere.

    • Well, 50 pages and the end of a chapter for this car. We took it out for a shakedown at Wakie yesterday, and everything went well. There were a couple of niggles: - Oil cooler fitting leak - tightened, cleaned, stopped leaking - Radiator cap overflow fitting was leaking....Mark called it, the overflow fitting was threaded in and not tight....tightened, tested and held pressure - Small oil leak at the rear of the block, probably the turbo oil feed - too hot to get at it comfortably but probably just needs to be nipped up - leak at the driver's side rear brake line where it meets the hardline. Fitting wasn't loose, so Matt backed it off and back on, no further leaks - there's also a leak somewhere on the top of the fuel tank, maybe that cross over fuel line - that was has been left to fix when its on a hoist Otherwise than those niggles the car went great, turned great and stopped great so it was a very successful day out. I'm always really nervous when a car first hits the track after a long break, especially with a brand new engine as well but it was great. VID-20251011-WA0007.mp4  Big thanks to @The Bogan who dropped by and helped out, @MBS206 and my nephew Lachlan the apprentice.  Neil's wife Mel also surprised the hell out of all of us by dropping by; she's up in Tamworth these days but was travelling to Melbourne so had plausible deniability for turning up at the garage, it was great to see her but also obviously a bit sad all round.
