Hi all, i got pulled over the other night because the cops heard my blow off valves and decided they wanted to ruin my night. Anyways they gave me a yellow sticker for the blow off valves and a few other shitty little things. I'm just wondering if anyone can help me with what i should do.

There HKS SSQ on my R32 GTR, does anyone no were the stock blow off valves would be if still fitted and how much is involved in taking off the HKS ones or if theres another way around it? Any advice would be great.

Stu

Depends how your SSQV's were attached, mine are in the same place as the original, exact same pipe aswell. Check to see where yours are. If its on by the same way, its easy removing, just unscrew and reattach originals.

Makes me reconsider my twin SSQV's... may take back to original.

Damn! Take it off, clear the yellow sitcker then put it back on if ya want... lol

BTW I would take the HKS SSQ BOV off, they sound shit and only VL turbos have'em for noise.

Yes the originals are just off the intercooler.

Also if ya not running high boost, stock BOV is fine.

i've passed quite a few cars by just plugging the vacuum line going to the bov so they dont go off and make the noise.

Not sure what the rules are where you are but in WA, bovs arent illegal to have on your car, just if they are too loud. By blocking the vacuum line, they can rev all they want, but its not going to make any noise. Just be prepared for them to be extremely picky, make sure there arent any oil leaks and make sure the car looks nice and clean, and mainly just know what your talking about so when they try to stick bullshit things onto the list you can defend yourself.

Goodluck, they are the biggest bunch of assholes on the earth

If you plug the vacuum line going to it wouldnt it still go off under load?

my thoughts too man..

i was like WTF!!!

the vac line is there for a reason

Im in W.A and the cop told me that if they vent noise to the atmosphere there illegal so he says. So u mean just disconnect and plug the ends of the vac lines, will the turbos still function properly like this?

no the vac line is there to open the bov, but on boost it does help keep it close but the spring does the majority of the work.

On 7psi, none of the bovs i've had have opened with no vac line, its been fine. Obviously if you were running 20psi through it i wouldnt expect it to hold it shut but at the sametime you would be stupid to have the car running "quick" with them driving it. Make it as slow as possible so they dont think your such a "hoon". I normally just run wastegate pressure (ie 7psi) and retard the shit out of the timing and it drives like a slug and they think its as boring as batshit.

cops dont know what they are talking about, half of them dont know what they are looking at under the bonnet let alone whats legal and whats not. All they have to do is spin some shit that the car is illegal (even if its not true) so they can stick a yellow on your car so you can get reemed at the pits.

The turbos will function fine

    • Does it also misfire equally when revving?   Josh is very correct in what you should do. The coilpack harness wiring loom itself is a known problem due to its age and the number of heat cycles it has gone through. Throwing parts at a vehicle to diagnose the issue isn't a smart or good way to do it. Secondly, you may have a bad coil pack, you pop replacements in, they fix that issue, but messing with the harness breaks it, so the issue persists. So now you think "well it wasn't the coil packs" and have to continue chasing your tail, potentially swapping back in your shit coil packs and returning the good ones (yes, I've seen people do this because 'it wasn't the problem' and they want to save money). And suddenly, you've got two issues with the same symptoms...   Diagnose, don't use the spare parts shotgun.
