Just bought a r32 gtr which is completely stock off one of my mates.I would like to get some good performance out of it.My goal is to build a reliable low 11second beast for the street and also for the once a month street meets at AIR.I am not very mechanically minded but of got plenty of dough to spend on it, I think.I have a budget of 20g's to work with. Will I beable to reach my goal with this figure??Anybody have any tips of how to go about it??Things to watch out for??Any help would be great...;)

Should be able to reach 11s quite easily, as I read a post somewhere here where a guy with stock turbos, more boost, exhaust, air filter, cams...etc - no major internal work, achieved around 250kW@wheels and ran high 11s. To go more than that you would need upgraded internals, larger cams, larger turbo or turbos, fuel, ECU...etc. It gets to a stage where to go a little bit faster, you have to spend a LOT more money!! Once you start getting into an aftermarket turbo, ECU...etc it gets expensive. Also depends what branded parts you want to use. If you go for big names like HKS or TRUST, a new turbo kit for the GTR will cost well over $10k. Or you can buy other cheaper brands, or second hand items. If you ever want to change the gearbox, I have heard that it's d@mn expensive, like $15k for a TRUST 6 speed or Holinger shift...whatever it is ;) The GTR gearbox will need to be replaced if you want to run 10s. For 11s, the standard one should be ok.

cold air filters

Z32 AFM's

good exhaust

front mount? (maybe)

hi-flow turbos

power fc and boost controller

some nice suspension

a good clutch

fuel injectors, regulator & pump

good performance tuner

other misc bits n pieces like oil/air sep., cam gears, replace all belts, fluids, plugs, brake pads etc. with good stuff.

15 - 20grand for the above i rekon (realistically). should run 11's, i dont know, i dont own a gt-r or know anyone who has modded one.

:P

thrat,

I've got HKS 2530's and dumps, HKS FMIC, Power FC, full exhaust, twin plate clutch and have 340hp at all 4 wheels (253kw) on 1.1 bar. Haven't taken it down the 1/4 yet as new 700cc injectors and cam gears are going in very soon.

I know you can get those turbos for less than $5 brand new, and I got mine second hand for less than $3.5k and they where in perfect condition. One thing I would recommend is changing the standard cooler as soon as you upgrade the turbos. Everyone tells you that they are good for 450 odd hp but I changed mine and picked up over 40hp at all 4 wheels right across the rev range at around 380hp at the fly.

Getting into 11's isn't as easy as a lot of people think, apart from hp you need to think about other things like clutches, diffs, drive shafts etc. Remember an R32 is at least 9 years old now so things like that might be starting to get a bit worn.

I know people who have run as much as 550hp at the fly through a stock bottom end RB26 for over 18 months without problems.

Good luck with it, it costs a bit but is lots of fun.

Brett

    • Yea - I mean I've seen my fuel pump which is decades old and uh, while I'm not saying this with real knowledge... but I sure get the ick at using anything in the fuel system that produced the state of that pump. Many years ago I went through multiple pumps (and strainers) before I dropped the tank to clean it out with extreme violence. I'm talking the car would do maybe 50km before coming to a halt, which resulted in me cleaning out the filter with some brake cleaner and going on my way. None of my stuff ever looked like what came out of your fuel tank. I don't think I'd be happy with it unless every single component was replaced (or at least checked/cleaned/confirmed to be clean here).
    • I'm not going to recommend an EBC pad. I don't like them. Just about anything else would suit me better. I've been using Intima pads for a while now.
    • Agreed, and in particular the earth strap that should go from the subframe to the chassis but it often broken or left off. There is a section in the R32 workshop manual you can follow for troubleshooting if you don't see anything suspicious, and depending where you are (there is no location on your user profile) you should be able to get your hands on a second hand replacement unit still if needed
    • Yeah they mention as a R34 for 2.5 Turbo...but then again thos "small" were also for R34 by that different site. But i look into it and that 310mm EBC is for R34 GTT. And by those you linked the specs are the same 🙂    EDIT: I found these on one site here: DBA 4000 series T3 DBA42304S They are 310mm...and it says are for R34GTT...are there good? EDIT2: ok they have pads too.  What "color" should i get for street use? I dont want/need some noisy ones...(and if they are not that dusty that is good too)
    • Yeah, shame. Maybe  driver's carpet is available 🙏. I am waiting for both amayama and nangun to confirm.
