jeffworld2
hi was wondering if anyone has attempted to run stock gtr or gtst bov's venting to atmosphere. just did a whole lot of stuff to the car and for simplicity want an atmo bov, but i have a lot of stock ones sitting here doing crap all. if they are ok to run atmo, i will weld those flanges on, but otherwise i have to buy a new bov. turbos are twin gt-ss. any help appreciated Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/206428-stock-gtr-bovs-good-for-atmo/ Share on other sites
R31Nismoid
They leak at idle. So no, they will not work in ATMO format at all. ps. ATMO BOV's are a waste, stock ones are good for over 600rwkw (tried and proven). Without a tune your going to potentially have backfires, stalling, all sorts of drams Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/206428-stock-gtr-bovs-good-for-atmo/#findComment-3652031 Share on other sites
jeffworld2
thats great but it is almost impossible to make it plumback in my application, so i was after a short term fix. also i had an hks ssqv for 1 year without problems. Risking
whats wrong with the one on the car atm jeff?? Its possible to mount a factory GTR valve on the old GTS-t pipe where your current one is and run a plumb back return up into the bottom of the intake pipe. RB30-POWER
standard bov are designed to recirculate on idle, so no it will not work if vented as stated. just run without a bov if its only a short term fix. aftermarket bov have a massive spring in them to prevent manifold vacuum from opening them on idle, but it also makes them not as efficient as standard because they have a harder time opening when they do actually need to dump the air. Yeah, i have RB26 twin BOV's installed with my HR31/RB26 combo Same for R33, very much possible with not a lot of re-work, just move the BOV's to the passenger side and your laughing. jeffworld2
current one is a china power trust copy.. when holding speed it just pops off every 2 seconds, works fine under load but yeah its chewing fuel and knocking a bit by screwing with the a/f. spring is as tight as possible, and it still blows off even at about -10pounds of vacum if i take my foot off. the constant surging type thing occurs when trying to hold 70+kmh and continues under light acceleration until the air is chewing the fuel turbos are making. i know i can run it back up through to the intake but it is not acheivable by me at home and i would want to run 2 gtr bov's if i was going to plumb it back in. i was looking at buying a trust type r or something but its a lot of dough when i have 5 bovs sitting here, and was also wondering if there could be a problem with the pressure feed the bov is getting from the manifold Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/206428-stock-gtr-bovs-good-for-atmo/#findComment-3652314 Share on other sites
Risking
The problem you have is not a BOV issue. sounds like you have compressor surge now you've fitted the larger turbos. replacing the valve is not going to fix the issue. I was actually wondering if the twins on an RB25 would cause similar surge problems to those that the RB26 suffers from.b You seriously need to get off the run in tune and do it properly now. jeffworld2
cool well need to weld the sump, put in new oil and plugs. ebc on the way. maybe next week if your not too full up anyway case closed.. china power is fine lol Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/206428-stock-gtr-bovs-good-for-atmo/#findComment-3652335 Share on other sites

It could well be actually. RB26's do get a bit of 'shuffle' going on in twin setup with atmo BOV's due to the factory ones being open early and actually stopping the shuffle Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/206428-stock-gtr-bovs-good-for-atmo/#findComment-3652381 Share on other sites
Risking
yeah its 100% his problem, I built the engine and did the twin turbo conversion on it. It had slight surge when first put together but is more pronounced now its got the GTss' fitted. jeffworld2
i agree, its very similar to what joeys car was doing in your driveway after his turbos went in, but its a bit constant. even if it was the bov, its caused by surging so i dont know why this thread is still going.. i just wanted to see my options and now we have. brad you have pm Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/206428-stock-gtr-bovs-good-for-atmo/#findComment-3652597 Share on other sites

gtrzilla
i first thought atmo bovs were mad, this was before i had a turbo car now i cant stand them Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/206428-stock-gtr-bovs-good-for-atmo/#findComment-3661453 Share on other sites
jeffworld2
when you spend months building a motor that has a lot of custom piping etc, you dont want to spend more time fabbing up something so you can plumb a stupid bov in, you just do the easiest and quickest, trust me Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/206428-stock-gtr-bovs-good-for-atmo/#findComment-3664918 Share on other sites
R31Nismoid
Well i've just gone through 2 year build... easiest & quickest isnt necessarily the best way but each to their own Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/206428-stock-gtr-bovs-good-for-atmo/#findComment-3665125 Share on other sites
