nsta
We just done an rb26 motor replacement, as old one died, and the temp guage shows as overheating....is this a thermastat problem or something else? new Motor sounds extremely nice and healthy... Duncan
did you bleed the coolant through properly using the screw on the inlet manifold (highest point). nsta
Will try that, so the coolant needs to be bled into the system after being flushed? Duncan
yeah that will be your problem then - open the bleeder, start her up, run until thermostat opens you will get steam and later coolant out of the bleeder. Once its mostly coolant do the bolt back up. nsta
[Thanks mate - is this bleeder easy to see on the inlet?, is it labelled at all or anything? Is it on the plenum, or inlet manifold itself, thanks for all your help! 1400r
good buy warranty if you let it get hot Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/207038-put-in-new-rb26-have-overheating-issue/#findComment-3662157 Share on other sites
nsta
tried the bleeding, no luck, still getting hot, seems to be getting hot still - could the radiator have been clogged with crap after the headgasket blew?, im getting it flow tested and clean to make sure its all good, as when we did remove the radiator, we did knock the fan assembly on it by accident ever so slightly.... GeeTR
Pull the thermostat out and test it on the stove. Yah, some gunk from the old rad could have clogged it. Duncan
or just run it up to temp without the termostat and see if it makes a difference. nsta
Tried all that and still no luck, radiator is fine!, im hoping its not internal now...While on the subject, i noticed, as soon as that heater went on, the temp rose much faster, whats normal on the gtr???, it was half way on the guage, then its starts to raise...so engine goes off! ferni
Helps if you have a powerFC - you can see the exact temperature on the hand controller. The stock temp gauge should sit at half way or a touch under, as soon as it gets above that, its to hot. blur
Maybe the gauge sender is different between the two motors, do you still have the original one around. Its the single wire sensor on the inlet manifold near the injectors, should have a blue with black trace wire attached to it. STATUS
is it the original thermostat? most engines sit in front cuts for ages and 5 times out of ten the thermostat siezes.
