Does anybody have a steep driveway?? + low bumper = BAD!

Hey all,

Well, I've just received my Skyline and have been crusing around of late, showing off my new baby to friends and family etc. The only problem though, is that I seem to be having a problem negotiating steep driveways. I've only had my car for a week, and my bumper is already horribly scratched.

Fortunately I'm not too concerned as yet, as I'm getting the front bumper sprayed soon, but what should I do in future?

My car is a R33 with the standard M spec kit. It's sits slightly lower on a set of non-adjustable set of Teins, but still it's nothing ridiculous.

May I ask, has anyone else had this problem? My driveway is kinda steep, and I have already scratched it a couple of times regardless of how slow I go. Is there anything I can do?

Any comments will be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

man you should see the bottom of my front bar, sure its pretty scratched up but you cant really see anything much unless you take it off ( i did last night and actually felt pain when i looked at all of them) as long as you dont crack it or snap it off completely by flying up a almost vertical driveway at high speed, dont stress yourself about it.

Dude who owned my car last had the front bumper reinforced with fiberglass along the inner edge at the bottom at the front. Mine scrapes on my drive if I dont take it at a sharp angle. With the reinforcing, I have belted a man hole cover that was sitting up and it saved the front bar from being completely ripped off.

ive had this problem before. 10metres before the driveway, i used to drive a bit on the wrong side of the road and go in on about a 30deg. angle. i had heaps of space either side of the driveway so i was sorta lucky and it was the layback kinda kerb. hope this helps

I have the same problem. I called the council 4 time b4 they sent someone out (my driveway is fcuked). The first time I called I told them I was happy to pay for the drive if it needed to b redone. But now they can shove it.

Jimbo2000, yeah, I know, its pretty much unnoticable, but I'm going to get my front bar resprayed, so yeah, all psychological i think.

Bl4cK32, reinforced bumpers ay.......hmm, if I only knew where it could be done. Would be a great idea though.

rb25, i see what you mean by doing a sweeping turn to go into your driveway, but I don't get how that stops the scraping, can you please possibly advise further? I guess my problem is that I live in a court also.......doesnt help does it!

Go to any fiberglass place. Tell em what you want done.My car is sitting lower now than in the pic of me avatar, and i've never had a problem with it.

Just take any driveway sideways!!! Best advice I can give!! Sometimes you'll scrape the bar, sometimes you'll be lucky!

I learnt this when my b/f had his walkinshaw and had to go over anything and everything sideways! And then he gets into my car which is at least 2 inches higher, and scrapes the side of my front bar....not happy Jan!!

heheehe my front bar is damaged and absolutely farked ... in fact theres nothing holding it on 1 side cause that sides damaged hehee and at the bottom its cracked cause i went over something which i should have ... i'm getting it all fixed next week .. woo hoo but after u learn ur car u know what u can and can't do ... takes a bit of time to get used to driving around being careful all the time ..

I always seem to scrape mine going down rather than up, taking it from certain slight angles works for me, theres only mm's in it.

My driveway is horrible

My current place the Cat scrapes on the gutter when leaving.. (not that it worries me)

My mums place is worst, I have to reverse in after carefully placing bricks on the lip of the driveway. I think I will have to get creative with the cement one day.

My Driveway is farked.

I have to park on my property at night and my car ALWAYS scrapes, if i turn left into my driveway and reverse left out of my driveway it scrapes a bit. but if i enter my driveway from the right or exit it turning to the right i rip my whole front bar off

Shane, yeah, thats the same as me.... I scrape going down a slope, not up..... I think its the fact that when you go up a slope you can get one of the front wheels to start climbing and lift the bar up... but when you go down its hard to get one wheel onto the bottom of the driveway no matter what freaking angle I go on!!!

Takes a little while to get used to bu the best advice has been given already....take the bumps on an angle.

Also make sure you keep your speed right down as it'll allow the suspension to absorb the bump and different ground angles without bouncing.

Scotty - living in a cul-de-sac head doesnt help, but taking the kerb on the angle works well. the more 'parallel' you can get with the kerb the better. keep the angle to a minimum, you might have to get right over the other side of the road, but it aint a problem if you live in a cul-de-sac. get one of your mates to try it and you'll see how the bar gets up without scraping.

mine is bitch as well...dam my stock gtst r33 bumber just gets out with about 2cm to spare have to go slow as anything...but still want an aftermarket front bar
